• What? An intensive arts high school (11th and 12th grade) and undergraduate school

• Where? Downtown Winston-Salem• Who? Students who show not only

aptitude but also advanced conceptual skills in creating artworks with intentions other than pure representation

• Why? Better education/preparation for life long learning in the visual arts


High School Program • High school students complete all requirements (20 Carnegie units)

for the NCSA High School Diploma. All courses are college-preparatory, including Advanced Placement options in English, Mathematics and History.

• The average class size in the high school program is 16 students per class.

• The average SAT score for NCSA high school students tends to be among the top three in the state of North Carolina, and well above the national average.

• The 16 to 18 faculty instructors in the high school program all have master's or doctoral degrees in their disciplines, and are highly committed to the unique demands of teaching in a performing arts conservatory environment.

Admission procedures• Application/Interview dates:

March 15/ April• Portfolio requirements: 20 piece portfolio which may include

sketchbook work, drawing, 3-D work, painting, printing, etc• Interview will cover student’s ability to talk about their work in

a comprehensive manner: idea generation, planning, process, employment of Elements and Principles, impact of art history knowledge, aesthetic discourse and criticism

Application Checklist for High School Applicants Note: Applicants to the high school program must have a minimum GPA of 2.3 (C+), have earned no more than one failing grade in the previous year’s work and no more than two failing grades in their overall coursework.

*Complete the online application and submit with the nonrefundable application fee;$95 for U.S. citizens and permanent residents; $110 for none U.S. citizens or permanent residents (international applicants should choose the check or money order option on the payment screen and submit the application fee by check or money order). If paying by check or money order include your full legal name on the check or money order with payment to UNCSA. Checks should be drawn on a U.S. bank.

*Request an official copy of your high school transcript that includes a list of courses in which you are currently enrolled. Applicants applying to grades 11 or 12 must supply the following:Entering 11th grade: transcript for 8th, 9th and 10th grades.Entering 12th grade: transcript for 9th, 10th, and 11th grades. PSAT, SAT or ACT test scores, if taken, should also be submitted (UNCSA SAT Code #5512 or UNCSA ACT Code #3113).

*Mandatory Information Form;2 letters of recommendation (1 from an arts instructor and 1 from an academic instructor);

*Resume

*Artistic Statement (not to exceed 2 pages and may be used for scholarship consideration) - expressing the applicant’s interests, goals and other information giving insight into their work

*If you are not a U.S. citizen please provide one of the following:Permanent Resident (copy of Permanent Residency Card I-551)Permanent Residency Applicant (copies of Notice of Actions I-485 and approved I-130 or I-140)

units• Bathrooms are communal to floor• Kitchens are communal to floor and stocked with

• Security• Residency Halls are accessed via a swipe card• No person may gain access without the card• After 10pm, alarm sounds when anyone swipes

card to gain access• Curfew is 10pm on weekdays• Full time professional staff for the resident’s hall• Parents fill out forms which dictate additional
