    What is TD-LTE

    TD-LTE (Time Division - Long Term Evolution) also known as TDDLTE (Time Division Duplex LTE) refers to the air interface defined by

    The Flexi Multiradio 10 Base Station is a benchmark in size, flexibility andenergy savings. It is the worlds smallest software-defined, multi-technology,

    high-capacity base station featuring integrated transport, security and a wideportfolio of 2 to 8 pipe radios. It also encompasses a broad selection ofperformance boosting software features that include beamforming, MIMOand interference mitigation techniques like IRC (Interference RejectionCombining).

This makes it very well suited for deploy-ments by operators in both developed and emerging markets.

    Download / Upload adaptability: TD-LTE spectrum is an unpairedspectrum, which means that operators have the option of allocatingadditional bandwidth for download or upload based on consumertrends and business models. This helps to improve the user

    Device ecosystem supports TD-LTE rollout

    TD-LTE will be the technology of choice for most mobile operators withspectrum available for 60% of the world population and 50% of the landmass. Multi-band, multi-mode LTE-TDD dongles and CPEs (routers)are already commercially available from all major chipset and devicemanufacturers. According to GSA (The Global Mobile Suppliers Association)March 2013 report, 124 devices can operate in the LTE TDD mode invarious form factors including dongles (USB modems), CPEs, embeddedmodules, smartphones and tablets. Bands 38 (2.6 GHz) and 40 (2.3 GHz)have the largest ecosystems of user devices and support for other bandsis also growing. Several LTE TDD smart phones have been launched by9 manufacturers and most handset manufacturers plan to launch dual mode(FDD and TDD) smart phones in 2013.

    Worlds first live TV broadcast via TD-LTE:

    On January 5, China Mobiles TD-LTE network transmitted alivevideo stream of the Xiamen International Marathonto TV centers ofChina Central TV and Xiamen TV for live broadcasting. The TD-LTEnetwork, built solely by Nokia Siemens Networks, exceeded requiredparameters to transmit HD video and images, providing the bestlive TV experience, matching a relay via satellite with a zero biterror rate. Marathons are certainly not easy to televise as runnersspeed over a long distance through dense urban areas. In spiteof the increased demand for network capacity with exceptionaltraffic and load conditions, there was no degradation in network

    performance, no packet loss and no delay during the two and ahalf hour live transmission. A stable uplink throughput of 5 Mbpsensured perfect video quality for millions of viewers worldwide. Thistechnological feat ushers in a new era for outdoor TV broadcastingusing LTE.

    Seeing is believing at MWC:

    Nokia Siemens Networks configured a live TDD/FDD LTE offloadingand load balancing demonstration network in Barcelona during MobileWorld Congress-2013. During the demonstration, visitors witnessedhow a heavily loaded network, either FDD or TDD, could be effectively

    and accurately offloaded to a lightly loaded network using a patentedbase station software algorithm.

    CSFB over commercial TD-LTE network Delivered:

    Bharti Airtel, a leading global telecommunications company withoperations in 20 countries across Asia and Africa, selected NokiaSiemens Networks to deploy TD-LTE and its Circuit Switched FallBack(CSFB) voice solution in the operators live TD-LTE network in Punecity. With CSFB, the network can transfer customers to the GSMplatform to make and receive voice calls and access voicemails whileretaining the experience of ultra-fast data services on 4G smartphones.
