DESCRIPTION

Tired? You know, they say that you should probably be getting more sleep than you are. But it's hard to sleep when there are crazy things going on inside your head and your heart. It's hard when you're trying to live up to a bunch of demands placed on you by others and, yes, even yourself. According to Genesis God rested on the seventh day. Here's the deal… there was never an "evening" and a "morning" - which means that God is still "resting." Resting in this case doesn't mean he's hanging out by the pool with a margarita, but more of a rest of completion. And the crazy part is, God invites us into his rest… in fact, he warns us not to miss it! You don't want to pass up this one time offer of a vacation for your soul, a rest for your soul, a sense of completion. Hebrews 4 shows us the way.

Therefore, while the promise of entering his rest still stands, let us fear lest any of you should seem to have failed to reach it. For good news came to us just as to them, but the message they heard did not benefit them, because they were

not united by faith with those who listened.

- Hebrews 4:1-2

28 However, the people who dwell in the land are strong, and the cities are fortified and very large. And besides, we saw the descendants of Anak there.

30 But Caleb quieted the people before Moses and said, “Let us go up at once and occupy it, for we are well able to overcome it.”

- Numbers 13:28,30

“We are not able to go up against the people, for they are stronger than we are.” So they brought to the people of Israel a bad report of the land that they had spied out, saying, “The land, through which we have gone to spy it out, is a land that devours its inhabitants, and all the people that we saw

in it are of great height. And there we saw the Nephilim (the sons of Anak, who come from the Nephilim), and we seemed to ourselves like grasshoppers, and so we seemed to them.”

- Numbers 4:31–33

For we who have believed enter that rest, as he has said,

“As I swore in my wrath, ‘They shall not enter my rest,’ ”

although his works were finished from the foundation of the world.

- v. 3

FAITH = REST

Page 9: No Rest for the Wicked

For he has somewhere spoken of the seventh day in this way: “And God rested on the seventh day from all his works.”

- v. 4

Page 10: No Rest for the Wicked

For if Joshua had given them rest, God would not have spoken of another day later on. So then, there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God, for whoever has entered God’s rest has also rested from his works as God did from his.

- vv. 8-10
