The bill provides McKay Scholarships eligibility beginning in the 2011-2012 school year for students with disabilities for whom an accommodation plan has been issued under Section 504.
BUT…
A student is NOT eligible for a McKay Scholarship if he or she has been issued a temporary accommodation plan which is valid for 6 months or less.
Beginning April 1, 2012
SCPS-ESSS must notify parents of students with 504 Accommodation Plans of available McKay Scholarship options by April 1 of each year.

• Section 504 is not free—it is costly!• The contact person must be knowledgeable
and have leadership skills.• Training! Training! Training!• Words can cost us!• Know who to ask for help or support.

• The parent is not the final say but a member of the team.HOWEVER:When a parent request a Section 504 Evaluation or Plan
do not ignore—process the request in a timely manner.
• Make sure your team members are updated on a regular basis.
