• Director Election o Kayla Garrett

Presentation Q&A

• Stevens Point: What do you feel is the biggest contribution you’ve made to the region so far?

o Strongest commitment is being on the strategic planning committee and being on the spirit committee, have a hand on what is happening and have a way to teach and talk with what is thought in GLACURH

• Western Michigan: What do you feel is the biggest contribution you’ve made to the region so far?

o been taking a step back on what I want but what everyone wants for the organization and where you want to go, listening to opinions, reaching out for opinions and what would they change

• Ball State: How do you plan on ensuring you have enough time for all organizations? You are “super involved”, how will you have enough time for things?

o in more orgs now than next year, taking a step back from 4 to now 3 instead of 7 and taking 5 classes that are all pretty easy and easy to pick up on, not difficult classes

• Bloomington: You mentioned the strategic planning committee. Can you expand on any goals or ideas from that and how you may implement them?

o seen what the committee wanted from the plan and reached out to other schools and gotten feedback from other people and taking feedback to put into more goals and initiative and timeline, and the group working on different sections and how we want it to be done, getting a formulated plan and we have a plan document out and be able to implement the plan as well

• Follow Up: Can you give me a few concrete goals?

o One is that I’m thinking of is increased representation and making all schools feel represented and getting people to

4

represent themselves represented in the region and jump into things and send out emails to get people on the committee and get representation from each state to get input for each committee

• Guelph- • Ball State moves to extend time by 5 minutes

o Seconded by Marquette • Guelph: You mentioned reaching out to underrepresented states, how

would you do that with Ontario? o List from every single school and personally talk to them and ask

what they would like to see from the Region and reach out instead of a personal visit, one on ones to work best with Ontario

• Purdue: How do you plan on helping NRHH efforts? o Personally inducted freshman year but no chapter since then,

working with many ADNRHHs to make the chapters benefited as well

• Green Bay: Can you expand on your internship and if it will continue? o Just got the summer internship offer all summer and will be done

the third week of august 9-5 job and touring on weekends • SVSU: How would you handle conflict between RBD members if one

were to arise? o go with mediation method, get people in a one on one chat let

both sides speak with no interruption to make the conflict be fixed

• Oakland: One of your strengths is inclusivity, how would you implement that in the region?

o inclusivity with RHA opened up to all students on campus and open to any student learning about the org and open to everyone to have the opportunity to join, reach out to schools already in the org, and use them to help expand the org

• Ball State: With your internship, how will that affect your presence at NACURH?

o Going to talk with internship coordinator to be able to attend NACURH, before acceptance of internship

• Northern Illinois: You talked about implementing a buddy system, can you talk more about that and how you would organize it?

o Work with COs to get the list compiled so partnered schools are outside of their own state, and then make sure that each state can partner with each other to help with conferences and do a survey afterward

• NIU Follow-up- For communication purposes, how would you organize it?

o Have a group chat and how they would be able to talk about it • Eastern Michigan moves to end Q and A

o Seconded by Ferris State Sidney Harris

5

• Q&A o Illinois- Chicago- You said you wanted to meet with all CCS

how will you accomplish this? This could be something as simple as a phone call or

zoom instead of traveling to all schools more personal than email

o UW-Whitewater - What do you mean interruptible? Working on a task and being able to drop and be more

important o Guelph- Can you expand on your goal to be more represented (ie

GLACURH be more represented) on the NACURH level? Would like to see GLACURH represented at the nacurh

level and help us learn more and take back more information

o Carbondale - How will you handle not having RHA experience if elected director? While may not be directly involved in RHA do attend

the RHA meetings at Purdue and is in contact with the e-board and by talking to CCs be able to get a better understanding

o NIU : Can you elaborate on your experience with the strategic plan? Do not have experience working on the strategic plan

but will help move the plan forward o UW-EC: Can you elaborate on your goal with NACURH OTMS

and recognition? Recognizing leaders who write the OTMS with a

certificate, plaque or pin whatever fits into the budget but have what people write nominations should be recognized

o BSU: You talked a bit about how you are working on not overextending yourself. Can you expand on that? Currently involved as treasure of Purdue night train,

leadership retreat, nacurh bidding team, bidding team, RHA, and major org, and not being treasure of Purdue night train and NRHH member, continue to be an RA and other orgs will not be involved in

o Eastern Michigan: Other than being NRHH CC, do you have any other GLACURH regional experience? No other regional experience

o Central Michigan: Can you expand on your boardroom experience? Been to No frills 2015 GLACURH 2015, IRHO FBM

and conference and another FBM o Purdue moves to extend Q and A by 5 minutes

• UI Chicago seconds o All conferences listed has been in boardroom for all of them

6

o UIC- You mentioned connecting schools, How would you implement this so it lasts for years to come? Good question, think that there can be a way of Excel

sheet and rating sheet on what CCs need help with looking into this a director

o Stevens Point : What do you think is the biggest contribution you’ve made to the GLACURH region so far? Being on the Purdue NACURH 2017 planning

committee programming chair helping bring NACURH into GLACURH

o NIU: You have a lot of budget experience, how will you avoid stepping on the ADAF’s toes? Held positions for the past few years and with these

positions have done a lot with them and am willing to help, do not want that position

o River Falls: Which committee at the NACURH level would you like to be chair of? Not sure have not looked into them specifically but want

to be a part of one o Green Bay: What are your specific goals in increasing

GLACURH NACURH OTM numbers? Think with this is being able to offer tips on how to write

good OTMS and encouraging submissions o SVSU moves to end Q and A

EIU seconds • Pro/con

o Dan Hill Presentation Q and A

• Western Michigan: You mentioned you are taking a victory lap. What is your graduation timeline and how will that affect your role?

o Manager at DQ has a sit-down with parties who’s toes are stepped on and seeing both sides and where they come from

• SVSU: You mentioned you got ideas from PACURH, can you expand on what you learned?

o Friday expectations are more laid back and like to set up expectations and allows a diverse background, GLACURH-U programming here to develop as professionals and this is one way to allow members and delegations to grow

• UW Whitewater: You talked about goals for NACURH U and the virtual world, do you have any ideas about how this could come from members?

o Definitely with webinar series is gauging of what everyone wants to know and researching it and presenting it to others that can present this

• River Falls: Which task force would you like to chair and be a member of?

o Advocacy would love to chair that and push further advocacy and inclusion and following inclusive terms and would like to sit on the corporate structure taskforce to make sure we are efficient

• UIC: You mentioned a lot of ways of increasing communication between the board and the schools, what about between the schools between one another?

o Think that it is important to have a phone tree where we create a document where they can email the schools directly and forward email elsewhere

o Tim Nickels Q&A IU - What are the biggest challenges that NRHH faces now?

o Big thing is to get more participation with more chapters, members with many close proximity institutions and getting members outside these states and rejuvenate chapters or get new ones set the bar high

• UW-Stevens Point - You talked about how you want to try to incorporate other states that aren’t as noticed right now, how do you plan on doing that since both your undergraduate and graduate experiences are in Michigan?

o Honest about it that the big thing is to go to OPE Had personal things in life and would like to stay home and had to do a close search but would have like to have gotten out of the state hard with Guaranteed experience and will experience a different region in Florida this summer and being honest and reaching out to other institutions

• NIU - What are you looking to get out of this position if elected? o Care a lot about GLACURH and NRHH advisor component was

not a part of the GA offer and wanted to maintain the involvement in the region and the big thing is continuing the involvement and gained so much from undergrad and not necessarily wanting to gain but give a lot back

• WMU - What are some ways that you plan to help struggling NRHH chapters?

9

o Inevitably every institution has different struggles is hard to pinpoint it is hard to figure out where they had been before at EMU and find what was the downturn and do some back-tracking and do the dirty work and if not do best to figure it out, maintain open communication and needs to be a cooperative effort in order to bring folks back

• UW River Falls: You listed time management as a strength and a weakness, can you talk on that further?

o An individual who thinks that there is always room for improvement, been improving on time management and working on improving this every day

• St. Francis moves to end Q and A o Seconds by SVSU o Eau-Claire objects o SVSU Retracts

• UW Eau Claire: You said something about a focus on bids, currently there’s no bid for No Frills or GLACURH, can you explain how you will encourage CCs to bid for those?

o Why are we a part of GLACURH, other than incorporating our student life on campus, shows how great GLACURH is as a region, want to benefit our region and expand it, everyone who comes out to GLACURH is the reason we love GLACURH

• IUPUI: Can you talk about your experience on the committee for recruitment and retention?

o Work with Haylie and Kathy and work on fundraising committee and creating document to help schools having issues with their budgets and working with Kathie and created questions and a way of fundraising implementation on their campuses

committee? o Been on the Recruitment and Retention committee, for a while

was the only one on the committee, got to learn from Haylie, before being on the committee did not realize how much it intertwined with a lot of other positions

• SVSU: You mentioned you are natural reserved, how do you plan to improve on that?

o It is not a problem, working on it when involved, more apparent as a freshman, sometimes comes out, constant reminder in the brain to interact and lots of time spent and get up and interact to communicate and talk with other schools

• Western Michigan University: You mentioned you’ll be taking a minimum of 12 credits and RA, what do you believe will be your biggest challenge on being in this position and an RA?

o Currently and RA and has 16 credit hours, more busy now and most challenges is unforeseen incidents and problems, very time management focused, schedule oriented and am able to shift stuff around

11

• Eastern Michigan U. NRHH: You mentioned creating a scholarship for Ontario schools, and that you don’t know where the money would come from, do you have a plan of action for setting something like that up?

o Currently do not know, not for sure if this is something that we are capable of not talked with the ADFA if we could just make a scholarship, in each boardroom there are always funds that we can use, if we can do it this is where we could use the money from

• Ball State: Director Elect Dan has international involvement in his goals, how are you going to work in your position to further that goal?

o Willing to work through his goals, do not entirely remember his goals, totally willing to work with that, should focus on Ontario schools and learn what they are going through and what they are experiences and do not encounter the same problems they encounter, we should dedicate time to assist

• NIU: What does teamwork mean to you? o For teamwork there has to be a lot of communication, lots of

things get lost in translation when there is not a lot of communication, make sure everyone agrees with what is going on

o Ferris state moves to extend Q and A by 5 minutes o Ball state seconds

• Those aspects are important to keep in mind, when there are multiple people these aspects is important

• Ferris State: How do you feel your experiences as an RA will help you in this position?

o Think more than anything is realizing two things, encountering things you are not planning at all, plan on scholarship for Ontario and does not necessarily mean that it will actually happen and if it does not work as planned then come up with a new plan, this is something that I’ve encountered as an RA, and communication

• MSU: You mentioned CO-RR works with other COs, and you mentioned that you have difficulties asking for help. How do you plan to overcome this and involve other COs to help you achieve your goals?

o So asking for help is something in my personal life, never put a goal of the org in jeopardy with not asking for help, trying to give back want to put more into the org and further is as a whole

• MSU: You mentioned CO-RR works with other COs, and you mentioned that you have difficulties asking for help. How do you plan to overcome this and involve other COs to help you achieve your goals?

o Had not thought about that with the recent budget cutbacks from the state, have to remind myself that other schools in the region feels the cutbacks

• UW Stevens Point: Have you considered creating a scholarship for the other subregions, in these times of budget cuts?

o Bids are very important, IUPUI bids are for positions, submitted many bids on the state level, educate people on how to write

12

them, if this is something that can be put on a screen in boardroom, be as creative as youd like, instead of worrying about the rules and then go back and fix them

• UW Eau Claire: How would encourage schools to bid for No Frills and GLACURH?

o Love NRHH, love the values of service and recognition, think recognition is crucial and particularly early on, how are you supposed to know you are a good leader if you are not told you are doing a good job,

• UIC: In your bid you mentioned integrating Presidents, what are your thoughts on involvement regarding the Presidents and Directors?

o Did not realize until yesterday that there is something set up for this year, for my plan wanted to see what the interest is

o WMU moves to extend q and a by 3 minutes UIC seconds

• NIU NRHH: Could you elaborate more on the purpose integrating the Presidents in the region at conferences?

o From RHA presidents, this is the first part and if so what can we do to integrate them into the regional level without them having the same duties as NCC

• IUPUI moves to end q and A o Emu seconds

• EMU- in full support of Jasmine because that she attends a school in Ontario can reach out to nonaffiliated Ontario schools easier, can give the perspective of Canadian schools

• U-Indy- echoes what was just said with Jasmine being from Canada and being able to reach the schools, sees both being involved in the region but being in Ontario makes a difference

• ISU- Kathie has concrete pathways to attain the goals and her involvement in GLACURH is an assets

• Ferris- believes both candidates is highly qualified in support of Jasmine and YTR

• Purdue NRHH- full support of Kathie, has well defined goals and a clearer path and recognizes both are good

• Lacrosse- in support of Jasmine ytr • IUPUI NRHH- full support of Kathie with experience even when no one

else is involved, reserved personality is not a con, may not be international and should consider her goals

• SVSU- is undecided on which candidate to support, main concern is for travel cost for Jasmine and could be expensive

• Marquette- support of jasmine for professionalism, international scope, and plans for goals

• River falls- supports Jasmine ytr • Ferris- moves to end discussion

NIU- feels they are In full support of Kristi and will be a hall director in the summer

MSU- feels that despite many attributes and concerned with time commitments and time management

Stevenspoint NRHH- would like to point out that being on Staff should not be a problem why people should not be a CO could bring a different light to the board

SVSU- while people have pointed out vague goals but her RHA and NRHH experience will overcome that does have committee experience could be helpful

CMU- is in complete support of Kristie with her vast experience and ties to GLACURH and passion would do a fantastic job

o Seconded by EIU • Ball State moves to waive; 2nd by SVSU

o No objections • Proponent Speech

o This piece is very similar to one that NRHH CCs passed at regionals. When NACURH makes a change that affects our policy book, this allows the board to make those changes

17

without presentation and voting by reps. Reps will be informed of all changes that affect changes to the governing documents. It’s up to you all if you still want to hear those pieces. A way you have a voice in these pieces is by recommending changes, etc. to the board prior to voting on these pieces on the NACURH-level. The point of legislation is to make a sustainable organization that doesn’t need to be changed in the future. We don’t always want to focus on legislation; this allows more time.

• Q&A o Ball State - Can you please reiterate what the timeline is how and when you will tell us

when it passes? Immediately after it is passed, the region will be notified of changes. It would

appear as business at the next business meeting if CCs want to see that. o UW-River Falls - Is this going on in any other regions? In CAACURH; yield to Shane

In CAACURH, it’s not used a lot, but we do have that process in place to help us with formally making those changes.

o UW Green Bay moves to end; 2nd by Oakland University No objections

• Discussion o UIC NRHH: Want to make a friendly amendment to the last line of the piece. o SIU Carbondale: In full support of this piece; we feel this process will allow us to have

more time in boardroom to focus on other items. o River Falls: In full support; allows us to have time efficiency in boardroom. o Ball State: These pieces have to o Whitewater NRHH calls the question; no objections

• Vote o Consent has been called; no objections o MMY passes

• Legislation MMZ o Western; MSU o Reading

EMU moves to waive • Stevenspoint seconds

o Proponent Speech o Q and A

MSU- how will they decide to fill the positions? • Up to their own discretion on what works

o Discussion SVSU feels this is a good piece of legislation, gives wiggle room of what is

happening, who knows better for the board then the board itself IU Bloomington- full support of this as well NIUNRHH- support and would like to echo SVSU and yields

• Q and A o Eastern Michigan University: Asking for clarification on ART Coordinator requirements?

Section 1 A, ART program went through a resurgence in NACURH 2014 and we used to refer to it as receiving the ART certification and is a lingo that advisors use with the previous ART program levels were different with ART and Master ART, has level 1,2 and 3 levels, when you completed it you can facilitate the programs and now you cannot facilitate the level until the new ART curriculum is put into place

limited and narrowed the qualifications of the people taking on the regional advisor position not a lot of candidates capable for bidding for the regional advisor position and want to meet standards for the NACURH ART program, clarifying the level 1, level 2, and would not have had any candidates

• Q and A o BSU- concerned about this not concerned with how much work goes into ART program

may shrunken the pool as well, It is that way now, went back and forth, talked with Haylie and Justin, was put

into governing docs in the first place, if we have someone advising the board it would be important they had the training needed to advise, it is another step for correct qualifications for that person who will advise, backed by NACURH, regional advisor should be at least level 2 through going through that position, trying to lessen the limits, if you are concerned about the qualifications and the governing body has the final decision and this just opens the field to hear from

23

more professionals about it, to further on that do not want to dupe anybody, do not need to train the trainer and do not need to be at the conference, do not need to be at a nacurh conference, should have gone to a certain qualification

• Proponent speech for PQ and R o Tabled to spirit and legislation committee o Committee voted 3 to 1 to not bring any of the pieces back up and so the motion was to

refine and bring them back up at No frills 2016, made revisions with what was originally talked about in the Regionals Boardroom, made it 4 pages instead of 8 and do not want to submit bids because it is a lot of work and in an effort to push people to make the bids, made them smaller and added at least 1 letter of support from a supervisor and this is the changes to this piece

• Q and A o Ball State: Why did the committee shoot down these three awards?

All the discussion was why would we bring 3 more bids into our region when we cannot get enough bids for what we have now which is why we made them smaller and easier to do and If one letter is required and then 3 pages of content and this is a compromise that we came to and if we cannot get people to bid now then why would we increase them, mention in committee about OTMs being significant for what the bids are for now

o EMU- yields o Alexis- yields o Eastern Michigan: GLACURH was missing a few of the bids that IACURH had. The

reason I made these was because we were the biggest region school wise. This would give the region more options for bids? Wanted to add bids that other regions had and felt that we are the most populated

with institutions and felt that all regions should have the opportunity to bid for the same things, and wrote them to help this, there is a lack of bid submissions, giving them more options would give more institutions

o NIU: Do the page of numbers count toward the table of contents? None of the page numbers include a cover page but does include a table of

contents but is room for content, made them smaller could be easier o Riverfalls: This is a Bid not an OTM?

Correct, if we did not have this there are OTM categories for student staff member of the year

o IU Bloomington: Would it be a concern that the table of contents and letters of support is the whole bid? Based this off of is what FYE is currently it used to be just a bunch of letters of

support changed to a 4 page bid or smaller bid and gave more information and is a sufficient amount of information, would not be enough content to uphold 8 to 10 pages of content

o IU Indy: Are these OTMs popular

25

This is a Geoffrey question but do not vote for Student Staff member of the year, do typically read 18-20 RA of the month OTMs and believe Abbas is looking it up

o IU moves to end Q and A Seconded by Whitewater No objections

• Discussion o SIUC- feels that we should agree with the ideas of the committee and should not vote the

legislation through o WIU- feels there should be an increase of submissions that are already around and since

it is GLACURH to GLACURH and there is not enough information o NIU feels that since it is only a 4 page bid would like to add the extra recognition, in

support of MMP o Purdue-ytr but the fact that we have OTMs and the bid itself is so short it would be not as

efficient to award the bid when we have OTMs that recognize the same thing o SVSU- feels that it gives the chance of more recognition and smaller bid size is pleasing

to help people bid o GB- in support of the idea of smaller bids to encourage schools to bid but not in support

because there is an OTM category for this o Oakland- echoes what SVSU said about us being recognition for a wider range o IU- not in support because of what Alexis brought forth from the committee, but it may

increase bid submissions and not sure if this will actually happen, maybe revise the bids we currently have to be smaller could be more productive for our time

o Eau Claire- support for MMP and wants more variety to encourage more participation o EMU- would like to point out that there are multiple awards that are also OTMs and there

is a certain amount of prestige of getting the of the year award o Riverfalls- feels that this is a good opportunity for others to get involved and page count

is something we would vote on and one may not want to do 2 letters o EIU- Yield o EIU- feels that other regions have the OTY of student staff member to be like other

regions o Ferris- would like to echo the pros and cons would like to point out the fact that section A

only have 3 months of experience o Ball State- moves to formally amend to say for A previous year’s GLACURH regional to

o WMU- feels that the amendment is beneficial in the long run because RA acceptance letters come out at this time and there is a better chance to get to know the person,

o NIU Calls the question No objections

o Vote 31-1-0 • Platteville- feels that while this is a good idea to bring up, there are many

more student staff members on universities that OTMs cover as many recognition we need and this piece of legislation is unnecessary

• MSU- in favor of this resolution of what is not functioning perfectly and see values for giving other institutions a chance to submit bids and does not go to boardroom anyways but does give other institutions more of a chance, do not see this as a negative and adding further bids do not take anything away

• SIUE- Yields • IUPUI Calls the question

o WIU objects • WIU- thinks that when looking at point number 1 and have certain

28

• EAU Claire: Is the bid 8 or 4 pages? o Up to you all to fix that

• Platteville: Can you elaborate on the term requirements? o If it is at GLACURH they would not be in their positions, could

• WIU: Was this down voted in committee? o Down voted in the committee

• IU Bloomington: Why did they shut it down? o With the other positions listed did not feel like a treasurer of the

year could be a student of the year and this can be clarified and this was in the committee meeting as well, OTMs also are an option

• Oakland: Why in letter g under section 2 could you not be nominated? • Time • Ferris State would like to extend Q and A by 5 minutes

Discussion • IU- Is frustrated with the direction this afternoon, we are ignoring what

o Q and A Eastern Michigan University: With the social, would that take place within that

year’s GLACURH, or a completely separate event that could happen whenever? • So with the alumni social, would that take place within that year’s

GLACURH. And this would happen just like any other social and this would be strictly alumni social and would not be the same night as advisor social so they are not in both socials at the same time, can be in the alumni association, where all the other socials are

UW Green Bay: For the alumni newsletter, why is it going from annual to biannual?

• For the alumni newsletter, going from Annual to Biannual, there is a lot of information that happens at the meetings and pick our new RBD for the next affiliation year, and there is so much information that happens during the conference, we went from annual to biannual so this is twice a year and not every two years. They would go out after NACURH and after GLACURH (June and December)

Western Michigan University: I feel like this would be putting a strain on the conference hosts, how will you prevent that? Also what would the alumni be doing at the rest of the conference staff?

• Red flag having an alumni social at the conference, putting a strain on the conference host every 5 years, have to be a conference attendee during the conference, they would not be a part of the conference, they only have to book a room for the social then the committee organizes and plans the social if they are not delegates or advisors of the conference, would have to provide their own housing when they get here,

Eau Claire moves to extend Q and A by 3 minutes • Seconded by Platteville

SIU Edwardsville: You said the social would be for one day. Do you really perceive alumni members travelling many hours just for this social?

• Social would be just for one day, do you think that the alumni association may travel many hours for the social, alumni who are a part of the committee sought out this event, gets the advisors who would make this journey for this,

Eastern Illinois University: Could GLACURH delegates at the conference meet alumni attending the social?

• That’s always an opportunity that the delegates could go to socials and meet the alumni but it would be a good networking opportunity for delegates to meet the other GLACURH alumni

UW Platteville: Would the current advisors and alum with the delegations also attend the social?

• yes since it would be at the conference site they would have the option to do that, advisors can go to any socials, this is a networking opportunity

IU- moves to amend and strike point D from subsection E • No second

Purdue- would like to know why IUB thought the subsection should be stricken IU- thought it would be a lot on the conference staff but taking into account

transportation and if a social that lasts an hour may not be an efficient use of time SVSU- feels that the social would be beneficial and this would not be a strain on

the conference staff but CO TMR would have this responsibility, full support of this

EMU- Point of Information- organize a social leaves it open to interpretation and could be something during the day, leaves a few years to become a thing,

GB- in support of the piece, is essential for the advancement of the Alumni association and if we did have a 1 hour social the conference committee is a good idea, not a hardship to add one more room

o Ball State: Is there a reason you didn’t already put the amendment in the piece before it was brought up? When we looked at this legislation, got revamped 3 times because it is very

complicated, we do not really want to do this as a first choice, it is not as effective as in face meetings and less efficient, had to look at different angles, when this was originally submitted by deadlines of legislation

o Purdue: If someone wanted to host GLACURH after this meeting, how would that work if this piece did not pass? We would have to push conference selection to NACURH, we only have one

hour to meet during NACURH o Eastern Michigan: With the virtual business meeting, what would happen if someone

could not attend the meeting scheduled? Says director has to send out times for the meeting and the director, as long as we

reach quorum we can vote on the conference sites and for awards as well, it would be addressed as if it was an absence if you showed up after the time meeting, quorum starts and stays at the beginning of the meeting

o EMU Follow-up: If the NCC wouldn’t be able to make the meeting, could we proxy the vote to another executive board member or would it only have to be the NRHH-CC? Anyone that goes to your host institution can attend

o SVSU: Is the amendment to prevent random virtual meetings from just happening? o Ball state moves to extend Q and A by 5 minutes

Milwaukee seconds wants to be clear of the amendment is to prevent random virtual meeting

happening, we would not use virtual meetings to elect conference sites unless the specified date allows us to meet sooner and give them sufficient time to plan the conference

o NIU: Can you elaborate more on why Article 16, Section 1, Part E is stricken? Hoping you could elaborate more on the article that was stricken, it gets

repetitive, any schools hoping to have this, any school bidding for No Frills should submit by a timeline instead of restating what C already says

o SIU-C NRHH: Can you elaborate on why you chose to have this just for host sites and not for bids that are vacant at No Frills (position bids)? Position vacancies have an appointment process if we are not filled at the No

Frills Conference and how they get filled at that point, separate process o NIU NRHH: We were curious as to how we could do a secret ballot if we are voting

electronically? The way a secret ballot would work by a google form or email

o Ball State: If quorum starts at the beginning and you keep it throughout, wouldn’t it cause a miss vote if someone leaves? Quorum just has to be met at the beginning and take role before each vote

While we were at the RBD retreat prior to this conference, similar to what we told you all during GLACURH Boardroom, there are a lot of bids that are disqualified for small errors. We believe that it’s important to give institutions the opportunity to fix those small issues that get bids disqualified. How the current practice is, when the CO for Bidding makes deadlines, there is a period of bid review that the RBD will review any bids submitted. We are not making this optional any longer. Someone will submit a bid, it will be constitutionally reviewed. Within 72 hours, institutions will be given any changes they need to make. If they do not make those changes within 48 hour, those bids will be disqualified. At GLACURH there were 23 bids that were submitted and 11 were disqualified. At No Frills we had 16 submitted and 10 were disqualified.

o Q&A Stevens: What are the major concerns that you had that were disqualifying

institutions? • With NRHH bids, it was a lack of RHA letters of support which we

fixed. Page numbers on letters of support. The front page requires a lot of different information which can be easy to forget. Most of the items are easy fixes. Table contents is another item. Also, sentences stating “good standing”

Eastern Michigan: Have you ever gotten a bid that was too far gone? • I don’t think I have, no. A lot of them are very fixable. In the past, my

main goal was to ensure that there were minimal bids disqualified. Eau Claire: If you find something that is unconstitutional, do you explain what is

wrong? • It’s on the honor system.

Oakland University: If a school were to receive an email about what needs fixed, is it 48 hours from reception of the email?

• Yes. It would be on the dot. We personally reached out to everyone via our available means to make sure they were aware.

SIU-Edwardsville: Is there something missing in 8? • Being totally honest, I don’t know why. I think it was on the template.

Guelph: If you get the email on the Friday, does the weekend count in the 24 hours?

• For the purpose of the trial, we were at retreat. This would be sent out on a weekday more like to provide for those changes to be pursued during the work week.

NIU: How would you ensure that the board would catch everything that is outside of policy?

• The entire RBD would be included in this process. When you add nine people looking at these bids, it increases the likelihood that those mistakes will be caught.

Eastern Illinois moves to end Q&A; SVSU • EMU objects • SVSU retracts • Eastern Illinois retracts

NIU: If you were put this into practice, would this lower the quality of bids?

38

• Absolutely not. We’ve made a lot of changes that has set a precedent for the next CO for Bidding. If anything, this will help improve bids.

What is your vision? Would you send a confirmation so those submitting bids know either way?

• Essentially if you don’t receive an email, you’ll be fine Ball State moves to extend Q&A by one (1) minutes; seconded by SVSU Eastern Michigan University: Does the parliamentarian review the bids?

• No, because the parliamentarian is now an application position. o Discussion

Purdue: We are in full support of this piece of legislation and believe it will increase submissions.

Western Mich: We are in full support of this piece of legislation because bid writing takes time. The process is beneficial for individuals as a whole. This is reasonable.

Michigan State: We fully support this piece. As we had a bid disqualified for not having a table of contents.

UIC: Full support as it allows everyone the opportunity to benefit from this process

SIUC: Full support; we are excited to see the willingness of the RBD to ensure NIU: We believe this piece will increase the constitutional knowledge. Echo

everything that has been said. Guelph calls the question; objections Oakland University: In full support Wayne State University: In full support allows the opportunity to learn. It helps

us understand what we’re bidding for, what the expectations are, and how to go about the process.

UW-GB: EIU: Regarding human error; EIU calls the questions; no objections

o Vote Consent; motion passes

• NACURH Spirit Packs o White Horn o Clappers o 110 per delegation

• Regional Assessment Survey Results • Strategic Planning Presentation

o Stevens Point: Is there another way we can give our feedback? Emails are great! Send them to [email protected]

o Purdue: In the strategic plan, will each initiative have steps to put into action? Yes, each initiative has goals. Goals will also be on a timeline so we stay on task.

o IU Bloomington: What will happen if it’s not approved? We would hope that with all the opportunities for feedback that wouldn’t be the

case, but we will cross that bridge when we get to it. • Flint Water Crisis Video • Advancement Society

o SVSU: feels that Haylie far proceeds the characteristics looked for in an individual needed to be inducted into the Advancement society, chair, been an RA for 3 years, advisor for the LLC, mentored people have gone on to do things in GLACURH, and is an active NRHH member was CO RR and is now our director and she far exceeds these qualities

o EMU: Kellie Howe is now CO Tech but was also NCC for GVSU, helped select the Regional philanthropy last year, works tiresly in the region and is always on top of her game, always to help people, she was always there for you, dedicated, good friend and good person

o MSU: fully endorses Amanda, she has been dedicated to the residence halls at MSU and for GLACURH, and this year she is RHA president, attended through E board conference, attended every conference she could, co-chair for GLACURH 2013 conference, she has been an amazing resource for being connected in this affiliation and helpful in NRHH chapter

o Ball State: he has been the CO for TMR but also elected him for next year, he has resurrected the Alumni association in GLACURH, working with everything to do with alumni, been to 20 conferences since 2012, NCC,RA MORA conference in 2013, was the first person I was one on one with in GLACURH, made me love GLACURH so much, he has always been in the crowd to help push him along, the definition of GLACURH to me

o Purdue: Elaine is an amazing candidate for this, involved member in GLACURH, became RHA president at her institution and created scholarships, Started IUPUI’s NRHH Chapter, she is currently on the OTM committee, NRHH CC for 2 years, leader in NRHH boardroom, friendly face to see, believes she is an amazing candidate and definition of GLACURH

o Guelph: Nicole has shown an exceptional level of leadership and commitment to the region attended 5 GLACURH conferences, not one person that has more knowledge on the boardroom, currently RHA president, been on RHA for the past 5 years, conversing

40

with people at this conference and previous conferences, people know her, and understand that it takes a level of commitment to want to know everything that happens

o UIC- feels that Jeff would be a strong candidate, well rounded person, was an RA and member of NRHH for 3 years, accepted to MSU for SA, attended both GLACURH and NACURH, passion for conferences and chapters, helped out with RHA so many times, very ready to help us

• Discussion: o EMU: want to speak on behalf of Elaine Fleckenstein, think it is amazing she helped

pioneer scholarships for her peers is notable when picking top 6 and 4 o Ball State: Haylie has done a great job as a CO and stepped up as director well suited,

Billy has been great throughout his term deserves this o MSU: Reiterate support for Amanda, expand on knowledge, she made programming for

mental health and diversity programming that is recognized on regional and NACURH LEVEL

o EMU: would like to point out the fact that even though we are in support of Billy does have another year with the region, focus on who has done everything they can in the region but Haylie and Kellie are graduating and their time in GLACURH is coming to a close but Billy has another year

o GB: would like to disagree with that statement, just because he is not leaving he has committed a large part of his life to GALCURH and because he is coming back we believe he should be highly considered for this award

o IUPUI: fully supports the nomination of Elaine Fleckenstein, obvious from her involvement and contributions to the Crossroads Chapter of NRHH

o SVSU: Moves to end discussion not entertained until everyone is discussed at least once o Stevens Point would like to comment the nomination for Geoffrey and has supported

NRHH chapters also, should consider people who were not on eh board would commend people who were not on the board

o Platteville- would to seriously congratulate all candidates with that would like to speak in favor of Elaine as she is very dedicated and she started numerous scholarships and started the NRHH Chapter there and seems like she is very deserving of this induction

o CMU: would like to echo Emu and not going to sit you and tell you a list of what Kellie had done, she was one of the people who talked to me and saw me as a capable person who could do something, someone who could achieve something and she means more than an award, she is an amazing person and should find in your heart to give her this

o Ferris: reiterate EMU of Kellie an CMU about Kellie, thrown into NCC this past year Kellie was one of the few people who held my had when I needed it, made a lot of contributions at GV and also going off of CMU, has the biggest heart and thankful of the opportunity to have me Kellie

o Ball State: mentioned earlier of what people have done off the board, Billy has been to multiple conferences when not on the board and he is also very well instituted within his own institution, is an RA, spends a lot of time working in his hall, helped staff more at conference, Nicole has made a large impact on our previous NCC and was a great friend

o UIC NRHH- would like to speak on the nomination of Jeff Tueber was a part of the NRHH chapter, is part of the reason of why I am in this room, encourages participation, as senior graduating is dedicated to student Affairs and the conference as a whole, would like to speak on the nomination of Nicole and she seems like a strong candidate and is involved while not really stepping into boardroom

41

o Indiana State: support of Haylie, Billy, Elaine and Geoffrey feel that these four individuals have gone above and beyond with Haylie stepping up, Billy with alumni, Elaine with NRHH, Geoffrey done everything he can do

o Ferris: Echoes what we said earlier and what EMU said earlier, think about the candidates on who we can induct into the society

o SVSU: would like to reiterate the support for Haylie, forgot to speak that she was also the MORHA director, she has made a large impact now and then working toward a larger impact, inspired many others to be on the board as well.

o Oakland: in full support for Kellie Howe for induction, she does an excellent job with co tech, her she writes love on her arm program at NACURH gives a great deal back to GLACURH

o Purdue: would like to echo what SIUC says about Elaine and is also in support of Haylie, William, Elaine and Geoffrey are the most qualified and gave back so much to GLACURH

o Ball State: focusing on those with this is their last year, did say that for Elliott for the past year, he is still a great candidate, could happen to everyone and this could be anyone’s last year and do not want to count someone out

o River Falls: in full support of Haylie, Kellie, William and Geoffrey, feel that they have done more for GLACURH than others feel they have written legislation and worked hard in the past others impacted their institutions more to influence their institutions because the own personal institutions can nominate themselves

o EMU: two points like to remind individuals that this isn’t the people who are the ones we like the most but who is most qualified, we know those who are graduating will not be here next year

o GB: like to encourage people to consider the non RBD candidates, should not be given just to RBD for being RBD, would also like to say who is the top candidate not who is graduating, show the best support to GLACURH

• Discussion o William, Haylie, Kellie, Geoffrey, Elaine

• 5 min Discussion • Purdue: in full support of Elaine for her countless contributions to GLACURH and is also in

support of Haylie, William and Geoffrey and the work he’s done on RBD • GB: Yields • NIU: echoes Purdue’s statement about Elaine and without her there would be no purpose for

board members and her involvement has been impactful • ISU echoes Purdue, full support of Haylie William, Elaine and Geoffrey • GB would like to encourage people to speak of what they have done instead of redundantly

speaking over and over • Purdue: Elaine involvement as NRHH CC and leader in NRHH boardroom and served a

parliamentarian and helped out in boardroom, RHA president, serves on OTM committee, RA, is a whole slew of involvement that speaks to her deserving this induction

• Uindy heard a lot of the same things about the same people, would like more info on Haylie and Kellie

• IUPUI echoes Purdue, Elaine has had a tremendous impact, started the scholarships for RHA members, encourages freshman encouraging them to run for leadership, as NRHH president has a small chapter and getting more people involved takes what we have and makes it so we can develop to one day become a bigger chapter, actively involved and won many awards as an RA and cared about the mental well-being of those she is in charge of

• WMU speak on behalf of Haylie, first person I’ve met from regional orgs, pushed me to be more involved, WMU went for a bit brushed under the rug, is very personal and truly cares about who she talks to
