Worship With Us in AugustOur next service of communion will be August 7th. At Millbrook, we have the Lord’s Supper six times a year: on Christmas Eve and Maundy Thursday, and the first Sundays of April, June, August, and October. If you haven’t attended a service of communion in a while, you may not be aware that the ministers offer individual blessings to all who partake in the meal. The blessing is usually connected to the Gospel lectionary reading for the day and is a word of encouragement to each of Christ’s disciples at Millbrook. Join us for the blessing and the meal!It is always a wonderful treat to have a baptism at Millbrook, especially on a hot summer day! Jeni Sawyer will be baptized on August 14th. Jeni and her parents have been a part of the Millbrook family for a couple of years now. They began attending our church when Jeni’s mother, Debbie, found us online and was impressed that we supported women in ministry and even had a staff full of them! As we welcome Jeni into the waters of baptism, we welcome in another daughter to serve Christ and his kingdom. Every third weekend in August, we host a retreat for our diaconate and a service of Installation and Ordination on that Sunday. So, the weekend of August 19-21, will be a special one at Millbrook. Six deacons will return for a second year on the diaconate: Jonathan Babb, Ellen Hinton, Lauren Huber, Jane Pearce, Jan Pender, Wanda Womack. Two deacons will return: Joe King and Gregg Mealor.

The last Sunday of the month, we are inviting all students to bring their backpacks to worship for a service of blessing. Music Ministry - by Patti LingafeLt

It’s still not too late to sing in Summer Choir; we will continue through the month of August with rehearsals on Sunday mornings at 10:30. On August 14, we will have our last “after-worship practice” with lunch afterwards and perhaps some more singing of hymns with homebound members. Even if you are not singing with the Summer Choir, we invite you to join us in singing with our homebound members; just let me know so we can coordinate getting you there!Upcoming Anthems include:• Aug. 7: Though Your Sins Be As Scarlet (a Fanny Crosby Hymn based on Isaiah 1:18)• Aug. 14: My Shepherd Will Supply My Need (Baptism)• Aug. 21: Here I Am, Lord (Deacon Ordination and Installation)• Aug. 28: Christian Hearts, in Love United (Backpack Blessing)Regular Chancel Choir rehearsals will resume on Wednesday evenings following the Women’s Ministry Program on Aug. 24, at 7:30 p.m.HYMN-SING!!! August 21, 4:00 p.m. followed by an ice cream social. We will have some special music but will primarily sing hymns that you request from the pews. Guests from Tabernacle Baptist Church will be joining us. Please let Ellen Hinton know if you can bring homemade ice cream or other treats. Plan to join us and bring some friends as we lift our voices in praise to our God who gave us song and a reason to sing (and be planning what hymn you will request!)
