Preparations for theOlympic Games, whichthis year are to be held in Mexico City, are well under way two thousand plus athletes have already arrived here and are begining their train- ining. The City Uni- versity`s spectacular athletics stadium has just been lavishley prepared for the occasion with many thousands of millions of pesos having been spent on new arena`s, running tracks and housing for all the foreign teams plus vast amounts of costly publicity.

On the evening of October 2, following the direct orders of President Ordaz,army troops opened fire on a crowd of 10,000 people listening to speeches in the Plaza de las Tres Culturas, over 60 people are murdered by the soldiers and hundreds more badly injured. On October 6, the olympic torch is carried ashore at Veracruz, by relays of Mexican swimmers. Crowds of protestors are beaten back by tne paratroopers rifle butts and truncheons

The demonstrators carry the portraits of their national heroes, Emiliano Zapata, Pancho Villa Benito Juarez and Miguel Hildalgo. There are placards showing the various Olympic rings as five smoking bombs and others showing a “granadero” racing along with his police club held high, like an Olympic torch. As the rally ends the students plant their flags and banners in the square, stoically determined to stay until their political demands are met
