The first thing that really captivates the audience’s attention is the large yellow font titling ‘Paracinema’. This is a crucial aspect in regards to the magazine itself. This is due to the idea that without it, audiences would have no idea what magazine they would be buying or reading and by making it bold, yellow and in a rather creepy font it captivates the audiences attention– moreover I think the name of the magazine highlights the representation of the horror genre portrayed within the magazine that being paranormal activity. On the subject of colour schemes and captivating the audience I feel like this colour scheme is a prime example of the use of colour schemes in relation to setting the genre theory and a magnificent way of foreshadowing the suggested films events. I feel the colours reflect the events within the film due to the factors that your eyes recognise the colours gradually: this is illustrated by the fact that at first the bright yellow film title captivates the audiences attention which then draws the audiences attention to the following white sub titles which reveal what else is featured within the magazine, revealing the creepy face which thus fades to black. I believe this is used to highlight the events within the film as it starts of bright and happy (signified by the yellow and white colours) and then turns dark (signified by the black) Continuing I feel the use of a painting in stead of a traditional photo is a capturing way of highlighting the vintage ideas portrayed within the film suggested for example The Exorcist is based around traditional religious beliefs within the early 1900’s. To conclude I feel this is an ideal representation of the conventions within the horror magazine genre and I wish to use aspects of this within my magazine cover: this being the use of the colour scheme to foreshadow events.

I feel this is a captivating magazine cover in relation to the use of the typical horror conventions to highlight the mystery and psychological aspects of the scenario illustrated within the film. I believe the mist enhances the mystery within this situation because it highlights the fear of what is unknown or of what you cannot see, intriguing the audience furthermore I feel like the faded image of the gentle pictured highlights the horror genre by giving the gentlemen an eerie persona. Continuing: the use of red, bloodlike font enhances the horror aspects distinguished within the suggested film – this colour scheme is used to grasp the audiences attention by highlighting the larger titles, more important article titles with a deep red, blood like font. As well as using the bright red and white texts to captivate the audiences appeal. The use of subtitles is extremely effective as well as being eye catching for the audiences as it enables them to search for various elements or features they may be looking for without having to search in detail.Furthermore the addition of smaller images based around different films is an effective method of advertising other features within the magazine and attracting a broader audience. To conclude I feel like this would be an efficient way of marketing a horror film as it illustrates the use of traditional horror conventions within the poster setting and I wish to infuse certain parts of the conventions above within my own magazine.

This would be my ideal magazine cover and I wish to base my own magazine cover around this cover as I feel the following features enhance the genres illustrated intensity. I feel the use of the dark image illustrating the zombie girl infuses and illustrates the fact it is a horror greatly - It also makes it extremely intriguing for the audience as well as highlighting the films dark storyline. Moreover, the use of the bright, blood red font infuses the genre features: the use of this brings to mind the movie consists of a lot of gore – highlighting the horror aspects. This magazine uses traditional fonts for the titles and subtitles, this portrays the idea that it is a traditional horror – this is enhanced by the bright yellow colours. The bright fonts make this somewhat dark, mysterious cover, captivating and eye catching. Continuing, the use of additional images and subtitles brings a wider audience towards this magazine, enabling the cover to appeal to a wider audience. This is a feature I wish to include within my own task and cover. Following this, I find the use of the quote “BLOOD, GUTS, GORE & MORE” is a highly effective way of grasping the readers attention and illustrating the idea that it is a horror magazine – this is also a feature I wish to include within my cover. I do however feel like this magazine cover is a bit overwhelming – I personally feel like there is too much information within this cover: although the use of the sidebar is extremely effective I feel like the bar along the bottom holds too much information and spoils the cover itself. To conclude, I genuinely love most of the aspects within this cover: minus the use of the information bar situated at the bottom of the cover and I intend on basing my own cover around this.

I personally do not like this cover, I feel like it is an immature representation of the horror genre as I do not believe it highlights the conventions with in horror.Firstly, although the magazine title is in bright orange (a colour commonly linked to horror) the name and main font itself isn’t eye catching and looks rather unprofessional. Moreover I feel the unprofessional idea is consistent throughout this cover: only beginning with the childish fonts and minimalistic representation of other articles featured. This magazine cover fails to represent the horror genre in the fact that it doesn’t give off the intense illustration needed to portray the horror genre correctly. This magazine looks incredibly basic. There is no depth to these images or titles. The main image illustrates (not very clearly) a woman being grabbed from behind although at first glance it looks like she is sneezing – enhancing the immature vibes given off to the audience. Continuing I feel the use of the film strip side bar makes this magazine look tacky – I do not see the need for this feature including that of the images within it. These images are cartoon representations of monsters and I do not feel this is a terrible and immature representation of the horror genre.Overall I do not believe that there an good or eye catching features within this cover.
