    hure Process:

This was a very long process. First, I sketched out a few brochure designs, then I remembered an ad I saw for a game when I was a kid. It opened to a new page, then opened to another. It would continually open into another page, until it opened to the first again. It was very striking to me, and I remember it still. I decided to figure it out. I sketched the design for the 4 cyclical pages, then started working them into an InDesign document.

In the meantime, I realized that I would need a new logo. I sketched, designed, drew into illustrator, and then colored the design for the game in Photoshop. Coloring in Photoshop was a place that I had to go outside of my comfort zone, i watched quite a few tutorials on it, including one done by Brother Kerr. When I finally got done, I realized that it was far too busy to be a logo. I asked the tutor for help, and he suggested making a separate logo for the advertising company. That worked well. I was able to keep it simple, and I think I designed a pretty decent logo for it.

I then incorporated all of these designs into the InDesign document. I added each one on to a page. For several of the images, I had to knock out the background. This proved especially difficult with the illustrations because they had a hard outer line that looked terrible. I used masks to make these things softer on the edges.

The cutting and gluing process took about 4 hours. Because the design was easy to do in indesign, it makes sense that the assembly was difficult. I learned that in order to make the thing lay flat, I had to add spacers in the brochure. It was in no way easy

Process: I started by going back to my old sketches. I liked the drop design, but I felt that I had more execution. I played around with a few different styles, and in the long run hit this design. I drew the whole thing up and brought it into design. I then chose a pair of complementing fonts. I brought this all together into the design. After having a good number of people look at it, I refined the design into what is seen here.

This is further branding for my video game company. This is the letterhead and business card.

Process: I sketched out several different designs. after sketching, I decided I wanted to do some very complicated floating images. This turned out to mot be realistic. I went back to my earlier sketches, and chose a different design. I added all of the text and images into the HTML, and then put them into image containers. I added a notification for the figures in the CSS, and formatted it there. It turned out almost exactly how I wanted.

This is a web page I made to explain how i made my game design companys logo.

Process: I started with the quote, then wrote down which images have symbolic connection to the quote, I chose a heart for life and a plant for hope. I then found images for those things. I drew a sketch of the flow that I liked, and played around with it paper. When I was happy with it, I imported the images into Photoshop. I knocked the background out of each of the photos as a destructive edit, and then grafted the two images together. I used the smudge and blur tools to make the plant appear as if it had simply melded out of the picture.

I then took my project to a tutor, and he gave me some advice. He mentioned that the image was the wrong color for the background, so I did a selective color change with the neutral colors. I then faded the entire image so the texture of the paper would come through.

After receiving feedback from Brother Kerr, I changed the size and composition of the image a bit.

Process: I started this project with a 3 hour sketch session. From that sketch session, I obtained some designs, but far more importantly, I learned that I wanted the three letters of my company to be seen in the design, and that I did not want to see them next to each other. I did not want to see DEG anywhere. This meant that I needed to make the characters appear separate from each other, as well as being used as design elements. I did some rough designs in Illustrator then showed them to a tutor. He showed me some good techniques for illustrator and game me some advice on the designs. I implemented those then showed the designs off on facebook and got some more good feedback. I took the collective favorite out of the facebook poll, and completely re-did it. I made sure that design was simple, but had enough variation to keep the design interesting. I played with some colors and then submitted it here.

Process: I started with the usual process of audience analysis, sketching, and production, except this time, I used Microsoft Word to produce the flier. I found word very tiresome and unhelpful, but it is a program that most people have access to, and this flier proves that something that looks decent can come out of word.

Basically, this ad came out of the minima effort for this assignment. It is not something I am super proud of.

Process: I wanted to capture a triadic color scheme in natural colors. the couple dressed in a deep blue (called indigo for the sake of fitting the books color wheel) to contrast the color of their skin and the green of the grass and trees. Taking the picture just involved good lighting, and lining them up properly. I did not have to mess with the focus much to get the shot right. Later they took photos with a different photographer. I used that photo for this project.I then walked the photo through the 4 basic photoshop edits. I had some issues however with my sisters face. It had been blown out when the picture was taken, so I used the clone stamp tool in Photoshop to clone the other side of her face and the side of her fiancees face. I blurred the edges of the new additions until they fit her face. Basically, it would always be better to take a better picture in the first place, but there are tools to fix things like a blowout.

I then moved the photo into indesign. I added the sections of color that I had incorporated as swatches, labeled the swatches and added text. I had the design critiqued by my wife and by my sister. They gave me a few suggestions on better location and what not. After those changes, the following is what I was able to produce.

This is a wedding announcement picture that I manipulated for my sister. I adapted the actual announcement for this project.

Process: I started by determining the audience and the message of the flier. From there, I sketched out 12 different designs which focused on an image and lead to the information that the reader would need. I then sketched 4 better versions of my favorites. I moved the best of those to InDesign. I then printed the design and showed it to Rose Harmer who made some suggestions. I made some of those changes and the did another critique with Trevor Purser. I made the changes that he suggested, and then changed the color of some of the text. I then printed it and submitted it.
