PerformanceIn theabsenceofanationally recognized standard, the followingperformancetestsweredevelopedandconducted.Thefittingdimensions,materialsofcon-structionandperformancetestswerewitnessedandverifiedby internationallyrecognized Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. A letter of verification is availableuponrequest:

The assembly was subjectedto400PSIGwaterpressureforone(1)hour. 6. VacuumPressureTest a. Fittings were subjected to a vacuum pressure of 24.5 inches of mercuryforone(1)hour. 7. CyclicPressureTest a. Fittings were subjected to a hydraulic shock pressure of 400 PSIG for10,000cycles. 8. VibrationTest a. Fitting assemblies were subjected to a hydrostatic cyclic vibration test at 350 PSIG for 1,000,000 cycles. After cycling, the assem- blieswerepressurizedto400PSIGfor30minutes. 9. ThermocyclingTest a. Fitting and tube assemblies were filled with air and pressurized to 100 PSIG. The water temperature was cycled from 68°F to 200°F for 2,500 cycles. Each temperature was held for 2 minutes andchangedwithintwo(2)minutes. 10. DynamicTorqueat68°F(20°C)and200°F(93°C) a. Fittings were assembled between two lengths of hard-drawn copper tubing. Withone tube fixed, theother tube twisted±5° for 10,000 cycles at 68°F (20°C) or 200°F (93°C). Each assembly was then subjected to400PSIGwaterpressureat 68°F (20°C) or 200°F (93°C)for48hours.TestswereperformedwithK,LandMharddrawn-coppertubing.Aminimumofonefittingofeachconfigurationofeachsizewastested.

TheNIBCO®PressSystem®,whenusedwithtestedandauthorizedpressingtools and jaws, is designed to mechanically crimp fittings and valves ontocopper tubing to createawatertight, permanent seal. When the switchonthe pressing tool is depressed, an internal motor powers a hydraulic pumpwhich forces fluid into thecylinderof the tool, forcing the ram forwardandapplying thousands of pounds of crimping force onto the specially designedfittingsandvalves.

Failure to clean jaws can result in an improper connection that can lead toextensivepropertydamage.

WorkAreaSet-UpTopreventseriousinjury,properset-upofthepressingtoolandworkareaisrequired.Thefollowingprocedureshouldbefollowed:

1. Checkworkareafor:

•Adequatelighting

•Flammableliquids,vaporsordustthatmayignite

2. Followthetoolset-upproceduresspecifiedinthemanufacturer'spressingtoolinstructionmanual.

PreparingtheCopperTube1. Selectclean,undamagedcoppertubeandcuttodesiredlength.Cuttube

oilandgrease(Figure 2).

2. Insertthetubeintothefittingorvalveusingatwistingmotion.Makesurethatthetubeisfullyinsertedintothefittingstoporshoulder.

3. Mark the tube with a permanent marker to indicate the proper tubeinsertiondepth(Figure 3).

4. Refertotheminimuminsertiondepthtableforcorrectdepths

CAUTION: Tubing that is difficult to insert may have burrs or could beout-of-round. Burrsmustberemovedandtubingendshouldbeundamaged.Makesuretubeisinsertedtotheproperdepth.Failuretodosomayresultinanimproperseal.

AttachingPressingJaws1. Makesurethebatteryisremovedorthecordisunpluggedonthepressing

toolpriortoattachingorchangingthecrimpjaws.

2. Pushandtwisttoopenthejawsetmountingpin.(Figure 4).

5. Pushthejawsetmountingpinuntilitclicksintoposition.

CrimpingaNIBCO®PressSystem®FittingorValve

1. Makesurethetubingisinsertedtotheproperdepthinthefitting,andthattubeandfittingarealignedproperly.(Figure 6).

2. Squeezejawarmstoopenthejawset.

3. Placetheopenjawsaroundthefittingandensurethatthecontourofthejawisproperlyalignedwiththecontourofthefitting(Figure 7).

4. Makesurethetoolissquaretothetubinganddepresstheswitch(Figure 8).Oncethecrimpcyclebeginsandtherollerscontactthejawarms,thetoolwillcompletethecrimpcycle,aslongasthetriggerisdepressed.

5. Oncethecrimpiscomplete,pressthejawarmstoopenthejawandremovefromthefitting.

CAUTION Avoidsharpedgesthatmayhaveformedonthefittingduringthecrimpingoperation.

InspectingtheCrimp

1. Inspectthecrimpedfittingtoensurepropercrimp.

NOTE:TheuseoftheNIBCO®PressSystem®jawwillproduceauniquewitnessmark“N”onthecrimpedfitting.

2. Inspect the crimped fitting checking the connection for the followingproblems:

• Misalignedtube

• Notfullyinsertedtube,doublecheckdepthmarks

• Incorrectjawalignmentwiththefittingcontour

Ifoneormoreoftheseproblemsarefound,anewsectionoftubingandanewfittingwillneedtobeprepared,installedandcrimped.

3. TesttheNIBCO®PressSystem®inaccordancewithnormalpracticeandtolocaljurisdictionpipingcode.

InsertingtheTubeintotheFittingorValve1. Check thefitting tomakesure that theseal is inplaceand is freeofoilor

grease.OnlyoriginalNIBCOEPDMsealsaretobeusedwhenmakingapressconnectionwithNIBCO®PressSystem®fittingsandvalves.Ifitisnecessaryto lubricate the seals, use water only. DO NOT use any petroleum-basedlubricants(Figure 5).

CrimpingaNIBCO®PressSystem®FittingorValve

1. Makesurethatthebatteryisremovedorthatthecordisunpluggedonthepressingtoolpriortoattachingorchangingtheadapterjaw.

2. Select the correct sizepressing chain. Pull thepinon the chainwhichallowsthesegmentstoopen.Positionthechainontheraisedbeadandwrapthechainaround thefittingwith the "pipe side"designation facing the tube.When thechainisfullywrappedaroundthefitting,reinsertthepintosecurethechainontheassembledjoint.Visuallyinspectthemarkmadeforinsertiondepth,toensurethetuberemainedinposition(Figure 6).

3. Releasethepin (pushandtwist)onthe jawholderof thepressingtool,andinstalltheadapterjawonthetool.Returnthepintoitsoriginalposition,secur-ingthejaw.Theredsleeveonthetoolmustbeinthebackpositiontoallowforcrimpingsizes2½”,3”and4”.(Theredsleeveintheforwardpositionallowsforusewith½”-2”standardpressingjaws.)Rollersonthepressingtoolmustbeintheforwardpositiontoallowtheredsleevetomoveforward (Figure 7).

4. Squeezeadapterjawarmstoopenthejaw.Rollersmustbefullyretractedtoopentheadapterjaw.Placetheopenadapterjawintothegroovesinthepress-ingchainandletgoofthejawarms(Figure8).

5. Makesurethetubingisinsertedtotheproperdepthinthefittingorvalve,andthatthetubeandfittingorvalvearealignedproperly.

6. Withthepressingtoolperpendiculartothetube,beginthepressingcyclebypullingthetriggerofthepressingtool.

7. Allowthepressingcycletocomplete.Removethepressingtoolandadapterjawfromthepressingchain.Removethepressingchainfromthefitting.

Ifthetoolmalfunctions,pleaserefertothetoolinstructionmanualfortroubleshootingsuggestions.

CAUTION:Avoidsharpedgesthatmayhaveformedonthefittingduringthecrimpingoperation.

InspectingtheCrimp

1. Inspectthecrimpedfittingorvalvetoensurepropercrimp.Thefinalcrimpshouldappearpresseduniformlyaroundthefittingorvalve(Figure 9).
