Freshman Rebecca Vint needs one point and two goals to tie the RMU single-season records in those categories while senior Brianna Delaney needs two scores to match the Colonials’ all-time goals mark. Series vs. Niagara In the most recent meeting between these programs, Robert Morris entered the final 10 minutes of regulation trailing and proceeded to score multiple goals to earn a draw as RMU scored twice over the final 9:08 to secure a 2-2 tie against the second-place Purple Eagles. It marked the first time in program history that the Colonials had ever rallied with multiple goals in the final 10 minutes to claim a point. Thea Imbrogno punched home a rebound with just 87 seconds remaining to knot the game and send the Colonial bench into a celebration as Brianna Delaney added a helper on the score. Imbrogno tallied one point in each of her first three games against Niagara before registering a multi-point effort in the final matchup of last season. Brianna Delaney leads all active Colonials with eight points against Niagara. Scouting Niagara Niagara is coming off a successful, action-packed weekend as the Purples Eagles claimed three points in a pair of overtime contests on the road against fellow CHA foe Syracuse Jan. 20-21. In the series opener, Jenna Hendrikx found the net with just 49 seconds remaining in regulation to knot the game, 3-3, and force an extra session. The Purple Eagles still held on to earn a tie despite having to kill off a Syracuse power play during the additional stanza. The following afternoon Niagara’s Kristin Richards scored with fewer than two minutes left in overtime to lift the Purple Eagles to the series victory. Sarah Moses posted 32 saves for Niagara and helped the visitors hold Syracuse to an 0-for-5 mark on the power play. Six different Purple Eagles have hit double digits in points thus far as Jessica Hitchcock leads the team in both goals (12) and points (19). Hendrikx and Kelsey Welch follow in second and third with 16 and 15 points, respectively. Abby Ryplanski and Moses have split time in net, starting 14 and 11 contests, respectively. Ryplanski leads the team with a 2.33 GAA. 2011-12 WOMEN’S ICE HOCKEY SCHEDULE Date Opponent Time SEPT. 23 (Fri.) PENN STATE (Exh.) W, 12-0 24 (Sat.) WATERLOO (Exh.) W, 4-1 OCT. 1 (Sat.) Record-Breaking Machines Assistant captain Brianna Delaney entered her senior season within striking distance of the major remaining offensive career records that she did not already hold. Impressive Imbrogno Is Reigning Rookie of the Year Afterarecord-settingfreshmancampaign,TheaImbrognobecamethefirststudent-athleteinprogramhistorytowinamajorpostseasonleagueawardas the conference named Imbrogno the CHA Rookie of the Year at its annual banquet last March. The rookie recognition was far from the only honor Imbrogno received as she was also the only freshman to earn 2011 all-conference honors as she was selected to the All-CHA Second Team. She became just the second freshman in the program’s six-year history to be chosen to an all-league team, joining former Colonial standout and United States Olympian Brianne McLaughlin. Imbrogno’s selection marks the seventh overall All-CHA award (First or Second Team) for a Colonial as the young RMU program has produced at least one all-conference honoree in every season of its existence. The rookie of the year honor put an ultimate cap on Imbrogno’s record-setting season. She earned a program-record eight in-season awards, topping McLaughlin’s former single-season mark. Imbrogno’s season was made even more impressive by her ability to produce at the biggest moments and in the most important games. She posted 11 points in RMU’s 11 games against nationally-ranked opponents and also raised her play during CHA competition. She elevated her performance against league foes as she posted team-leading marks of 10 goals, 10 assists, 20 points and 72 shots in conference play. Academic Athletes The Robert Morris women’s hockey team earned a conference-best 16 selections on the CHA All-Academic Team that was announced this past summer. RMU freshman Anneline Lauziere merited further distinction as she was one of just six student-athletes in the CHA to be named to the league’s Academic All-Star Team, a squad that honors the student-athletes that have achieved the highest grade-point averages for their respective positions.
