1. Air freight containers with String System

Strings are attached to the bars positioned in the container and the hangers are locked into these strings.

Advantage: Higher density of garment = better container utilization = lower cost per piece

Disadvantage : Compare with bar system higher risk on wrinkles or creases in garment

95% of all GOH shipments are sent “on strings” in order to control shipment cost.

2. Air freight containers with Bar System

Used for sensitive garments: hangers are hung directly on bars and can be separated in order to ensure distance between the individual pieces. This leads to un-used container space (increasing the shipment cost).

•Risk of pressmarks minimized •Garment kept in place during transit•Disadvantage = higher cost compared to string system. NEXT

In order to decide whether to use GOH or have the garments sent flat packed and re-ironed at destination, it is essential to know the shipment cost per piece

Main question: How many pieces will fit into an air freight container?

Factors are: - the quality and thickness of the fabrics used - the type of hanger - the length of the garments and polybags

The following table shows the approximate number of pieces that can fit into (tailor-made) 1-, 2- and 3-bar containers and airline containers (LD 3, LD 7 and AQ6).
