Vol.9 2018, Newsletter Probiotics Infused Skin Care Product Most microorganisms found on human skin are not dangerous for human health. Some of them are even necessary for skin health and release antibacterial substances to prevent pathogenic colonization on skin which has an effect on immunity. The most widely used and recognized probiotics are Lactobacillus sp. and Bifidobacterium sp. Recent researches mentioned the action of probiotics on skin to produce a metabolic factor, bacteriocins inhibiting pathogenic bacteria activity which then reduces inflammation, skin diseases and maintains natural balance of bacteria and skin pH. Many cosmetic companies are now trying to add probiotics into their formulas. Products on the market generally do not contain live microorganisms, instead they are based on fermented probiotic ingredients which are prebiotics in nature, for example, Clinique (Redness solution), SK-II from Procter & Gamble and Sulwhasoo, the Korean cosmetics. Therefore, cosmetic manufacturers are trying to develop “Living Cosmetics” containing live probiotic cells and research innovative technical solutions for cell stabilizing techniques to be used in cosmetic products. Most of trans fat in foods we eat is formed through a manufacturing process by adding hydrogen to vegetable oil, which converts liquid fat to solid fat at room temperature. This process is called hydrogenation. Trans fat also occurs naturally in food products from ruminant animals e.g. milk, butter, cheese, meat products, etc. Eating trans fat raises the level of LDL cholesterol in the blood. As a result, the risk of developing heart disease, the leading cause of death in men and women, is increased. Removing partially hydrogenated oils from processed foods could prevent thousands of heart attacks and deaths each year. Thai FDA has announced the regulation regarding “Prohibited Food to Be Produced, Imported or Sold” which states that partially hydrogenated oils and food products containing partially hydrogenated oils are prohibited to be produced, imported or sold. This regulation shall come into force on January 9, 2019.
