Students Get A Charge Out Of Physics

Students in Mrs. Suzette Wheeler’s physics classes recently completed a section on electrostatics. As part of their studies, students built their own electroscopes using jars, aluminum foil and paper clips to detect changes in static charge. Submitted by Suzette Wheeler

Interact Officers Attend Rotary Luncheon

Interact is Rotary International’s service club for young people ages 14-18 and includes more than 10,700 clubs in 109 countries with almost 200,000 members worldwide. Throughout the year, the Woodlands chapter of Rotary International invites Interact officers from our area to attend their weekly luncheons and make a short presentation to Rotary Club members. Officers of the Woodlands Christian chapter of Interact recently attended a Rotary Club luncheon (see photo at left).

Warrior Basketball Wins 8th Straight District Championship

The Warrior boys’ varsity basketball team clinched their 8th consecutive TAPPS 3A District 7 championship with a 66-47 victory over St. Thomas Episcopal on Tuesday, February 5. The team is now 10-0 in district play and 26-5 overall with two district games remaining. The Warriors will travel to Bryan to face St. Joseph Catholic School on Friday, February 8.

The regular season concludes with a home game on Tuesday, February 12 against Brazos Christian. The seven graduating seniors on the team will be honored in a special pre-game ceremony. The boys’ junior varsity gets the action started at 4:30 p.m. followed by the girls’ varsity at 6:00 p.m. The boys’ varsity game tips off at 7:30 p.m. Come out and support your district champion Warrior basketball team as they get ready for another playoff run!

Warrior Swimming Qualifies For State Meet Both the boys’ and girls’ Warrior swim teams qualified for the TAPPS state swim meet by finishing third overall at the regional swim meet held on Saturday, February 2nd in Pearland. First place finishers for individual events were as follows: Hannah Bub (200 medley, 100 breaststroke), and Jeff Chen (200 individual medley). Others team members qualifying for the state meet are as follows: Katie Albertson (3rd 100 freestyle); Hailey Hanigan (2nd 500 freestyle, 2nd 100 backstroke); Logan Shearer (3rd 100 backstroke); Ashley Enriquez (4th 100 breaststroke); and Sarah Mansfield (4th 50 freestyle, 4th 100 freestyle). All six relay teams qualified for the state meet. The girls’ team won the 200 medley relay ( J. Hanigan, Bub, H. Hanigan, Albertson) as well as the 200 freestyle relay (H. Hanigan, J.

Hanigan, Albertson, Bub). The girls finished second in the 400 freestyle relay (J.Hanigan, McAden, Enriquez, Albertson). The boys’ team earned a first place finish in the 200 freestyle relay (Jeff Chen, Kyle Caddell, Logan Shearer, Austin Walls); 2nd in the 200 medley relay (Shearer, Caddell, Chen, Walls); and 3rd in the 400 freestyle relay (Chen, Caddell, Travis Ray, Shearer). Next stop for the Warrior swimmers is the TAPPS state swim meet in San Antonio on Friday, February 15th. Best wishes and fast swims to our Warrior swimmers! Submitted by Kathryn Bub

Warrior Golf Competes In War Eagle Invitational The Warrior varsity golf team finished in 5th place out of 17 teams in the Oak Ridge War Eagle Invitational held at River Plantation on Monday, February 4. The team was led by senior Justin Jeggle who finished in tenth place overall with a score of 82. Next up for Warrior golf is the SATCH Invitational at the end of February, followed by the district, regional, and state tournaments in April. Way to go Warrior golf! Submitted by George Leppert
