From the Principal Only One You
Great news! Every student has completed painting his or her “Only One You” painted rocks and
will be able to take their decorative rock home this week. I hope you will be able to find a special
place for each rock as the students have used their imagination and design skills to create this
unique treasure.
Our “Only One You” garden display will be created early next term after the students have voted on
its best location. Hot favourites are outside the library, Hume Street side of the administration
block, alongside the buddy seat and outside the art room.
Team Colours Day
On Friday all students are invited to wear their favourite team colours to school. Year Six SRC are
hoping you may be able to donate a gold coin on the day towards cancer research. However all
students are encouraged to wear their team colours regardless of whether you choose to donate or
not.
First Semester Student Reports
First semester student reports will be distributed at the end of this week. I urge you to take the
opportunity to discuss the reports with your child to celebrate your child’s achievements and
learning journey.
Finally, I hope the students and staff have a relaxing and enjoyable vacation. I thank our parents,
P&C and school community for your continued support of our school throughout this semester and
I look forward to a very exciting second semester commencing with Term 3 on Monday 23rd
July.

Lions Club Public Speaking Competition
Congratulations to Leticia True, Liam Smith,
Ella Webb and Zach Wemyss on their
excellent efforts and entertaining speeches in
the Lions Public Speaking Competition on
Sunday 1st July. The students were superb
ambassadors of our school and had the
opportunity to showcase their public speaking
skills.
Riverina Hockey
We had a great week at the Riverina Hockey.
We played 7 games, drawing the last one.
The highlight was when Bella from Corowa Public
scored our only goal!
Players got to move around and try different
positions.
It was a tiring week but we made lots of new
friends and really enjoyed the experience.

NADOC Week
On Monday we welcomed Hilda and Greta from Vic Parks to help our school recognise NAIDOC
week. Each July celebrations are held across Australia to celebrate the history, culture and
achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC is celebrated by not only
Indigenous communities, but by Australians from all lifestyles.
Hilda and Greta provided a wonderful hands on information session about Aboriginal culture and
history of the Yorta Yorta people and our land. We heard stories about totems, methods of finding
and cooking food, endangered animals, the importance of hunting for what you need as well as
trade and communication across this vast country.

EnviroMentors Visit
On Tuesday Abbey from the EnviroMentors group worked with each class group to
investigate effective ways we can reuse and recycle some of our daily rubbish
through composting. Students eagerly listened to the factors needed to create a
quality growth environment and learnt how we can compost our daily food scraps to
produce good soil quality in our vegetable and school gardens.
Skittle Experiment
On Friday 15th June, the Wilay students became classroom scientist looking at how Skittles appearance changes when hot,
warm and cold water is added to them. Students created their own hypothesis (guess) and had to record their finding into a
chart. The class then made predictions and looked at other variables for this experiment. We will be following up on this, on
Friday for more Science investigations.

P&C $5 Lunch
The P&C are offering the students a $5 lunch this Friday.
There will be a selection of party pies, sausage rolls and hot
dogs for the students to choose from.

How To Make A Compost Bin - By Levi
1. First Abbey tipped the soil into the bin.
2. Next we added straw into the bin.
3. Then Abbey mixed the straw and the soil
together.
4. Then we put in the food scraps and shut
the lid.
I learnt that egg shells can go in the
compost bin but not meat or eggs.
Quote of the Day
“Worms like coffee, they’re like grown ups.”
Angus
“Worms have three hearts and they breath through
their skin.” Nate
“I learnt that nail clippings can go in the bin,
but sweets can’t.” Cooper R
“I learnt that worms don’t like spicy foods.”

My favourite thing is learning about the
Australian animals on our Kyabram excursion.
- Vincent
My favourite thing was doing the science
experiments and I liked going on the
excursion. - Jayce
My favourite thing we did this term
was the “Walking Water”
experiment. I hope we do
experiments next term - Nathias
My favourite learning experience was
the skittles experiment because it
looked like a rainbow. My favourite
learning topic was the Australian
animals because we went on the
Kyabram excursion. - Stella
My favourite thing this term was the skittle
experiment because we got to see lots of
colours on the three plates. We used
science words. We used interesting
vocabulary. We used hypotheses to
predict what we think will happen in the
experiment. I hope we get to do more
experiments next term. Charli-Rae
“I liked the skittles experiment
because it was fun watching the
skittles dissolve.” Chevy
Snuggle Pot & Cuddle Pie Retold by James & Marshall
Snuggle Pot and Cuddle Pie went on an adventure and
then the Blue Wren told them where to see the humans.
They went up the tree to sleep in the nest. The greedy owl
thought Snuggle Pot was a pink mouse and snatched him
up. By James
The owl took Cuddle Pie to its nest to eat. The owl
dropped Cuddle Pie onto an ant nest and smashed several
baby ants. By Marshall
