Spring 2015

Ten years ago, in May 2005, Cherish was born.

I had always wanted my own business and had set up many, for other people, so it seemed a natural progression. Although never as easy when it’s your own money, it was a risk but one I was willing to take...I am so glad I did.

My mission was always to give the best quality of care that we could from truly caring professionals and this remains so and I will take this opportunity to thank you all from the bottom of my heart for helping me achieve this, you are amazing.

So much has happened over the years. In 2008 I met an old school friend, and little did I know this would change the shape although not the mission of Cherish. Peter Watson joined Cherish in 2010 straight from being the Managing Director of Business Link, bringing with him a wealth of experience and a Masters in Business Administration. Peter recognised the huge potential within Cherish and decided to become Chairman of the team, spending the majority of his time winning tenders for new work in other areas and installing ISO 9001 Quality Standards, helping maintain the quality that was so important to me. This along with asking me to be his wife – well he would wouldn’t he?

So from 2009 onwards Cherish has grown from a small office in Blackpool to a large office in Blackpool, one in Wigan and Warrington, a children's home in Bacup, a supported house in Blackpool along with us offering short breaks in Knowsley and Warrington. We are delivering care to a wider range of people including children, people with learning disabilities and the elderly, this could not have been done without the strong and loyal staff team we have.

We will continue to grow steadily never willing to compromise on quality and look forward to a bright and successful future for everyone.

This is our Company - be proud of it.

Best wishes

Wendy

Client Feedback

Twice a year we send out our client satisfaction questionnaires to all

clients. We use this information to shape and make improvements to the

service we provide.

As we have seen in previous years the responses have been overwhelming.

Overall our clients would rate the service provided by

Cherish as Excellent! Some of the amazing feedback we

received included:

so much for all the help to me and CN and our family’

‘Cannot fault Eileen. Always bright and cheerful. Nothing is too much trouble. She has

been a great help to me’

very well looked after by them’

Warrington Services

Cherish are now in Warrington! In September last year we won the opportunity to work

with the council on their new Fast Action Pilot Programme. The pilot was designed to

deliver care services to a variety of different clients, who due to unforeseen

circumstances required a package of care immediately. Each client receives a 6 week

programme of care whilst a long term solution is found.

Having operated the service now for 5 months, we have found that our new clients are

choosing to stay with Cherish after their designated 6 weeks. This is because of the

quality of care that the team provide. The positive feedback that we have received from

both clients and other care professionals has been overwhelming!

On the back of this success in January we won a place on the

framework agreement to deliver children’s services in the

Warrington area.

The only difference in Warrington from our other care

offices is the uniforms, due to another provider having

the same colour.

ISO 9001

As you are aware Cherish operates an internationally recognised quality system across all our

operations, it’s called ISO 9001, you will most likely recognise it through all the standard forms we

use for visit records, supervisions and holiday requests etc. Peter is our quality management

representative and the aim of the system is to enable us to give a consistent high quality of service,

the accreditation is stringently audited twice a year, externally judged.

We also use our quality meetings to set business and operational goals, such as targets for growth

in Cherish, aims for CQC and other external quality inspections and employee engagement— for

instance we launched our first comprehensive staff survey last summer and used the results to

change and improve the support we try to give to frontline staff.

We will be setting goals for the next 12 months and we will communicate our agreed objectives so

everyone at Cherish can have understanding and awareness

The emergency out of hours on call telephone line

Please remember that the on call system is an emergency line and should only be

used as such.

If you have any queries regarding your care that is not an emergency please

contact the care team during office hours.

Short Breaks

Last year Cherish was successful in winning a tender to provide short breaks

in Knowsley….. and now we can confirm that we will be extending these

short breaks to the Warrington area!

A short break can be anything from an hour to a full week residential

holiday / respite for any child with an assessed need. The focus is on

providing a break for the child’s parents/guardians and carers, this is an

invaluable service which each local authority must provide for the families

within their area.

At Knowsley we offer an after school club every Tuesday and a Saturday

Club once a month at Bluebell Park School.

Our Warrington activity programme will be published shortly. During our

sessions our team of support workers plan a range of activities which all

result in one thing……FUN!! The children go swimming in the hydrotherapy

pool; we’ve had the bug man out with his creepy crawlies; the music man, as

well as aroma touch therapy sessions.

If this is something you may be interested in supporting

please contact Alex for further information

Cherish Children's Care

There have been a few changes at Cherish Childrens

Care. Firstly, and most importantly, we have opened

Salvo House, purchased and adapted for use as a

Cherish children’s home, we opened in June 2014.

Salvo (Latin for ‘safe’) House is a five bedroom home in

Bacup Lancashire. Here we accommodate children and

young people between the ages of 7 and 18 years. Due

to the excellent reputation Cherish has with

commissioning authorities, our new home was full within 4 weeks of opening.

Having passed our first Ofsted inspection the home’s team, led by Jackie Hodson, are

working at developing the therapeutic services that we offer the children and young

people within our care.

We recently received a compliment from a senior staff member of the Lancashire

Youth Offending team that read:

“I just wanted to say that I think you and your dedicated team are doing a fantastic job.

You are all very knowledgeable about the difficulties the young people face and appear

to be fully skilled in dealing with the sometimes impossible behaviours of some very

damaged young people.

You have got a truly dedicated team, I have spoken with a few members of your team,

all of whom speak highly of you and the ways in which you work with the young people

and the fact that you are so passionate about what you do.

I have worked with young people for 25 years and you have restored my faith in the

care facilities offered to our young people. I wish i could bottle your team off and sell it

to other care givers as a model of good practice”.

At Jake House (our semi independent home) we have successfully completed our ‘first

cycle’. This means the group of young people that moved into the home have

successfully gone on to live independently or into alternative accommodation.

Keeleigh Simpson, the home manager, is currently developing the service further

including looking at additional homes to open.

Exciting times ahead!

As Cherish continues to grow we are looking for new team members who can help

deliver our services.

Care work is one of the most challenging professions however it is the most rewarding

work you will ever do. At Cherish we offer flexible working as well as a comprehensive

training and development programme with real opportunities for progression and

personal development.

We currently have the following vacancies:

Support Workers, Adult Home Care- Blackpool, Warrington and Wigan

Support Workers, Children Outreach- Blackpool and Warrington

Residential Support Workers– Bacup

Support Workers, Short Breaks- Warrington

Short Breaks Coordinator- Blackpool

If you know anybody that may be interested in developing a career with Cherish,

please let us know - if your referral is successful and completes 6 months service you

will be £25.00 richer and if they stay for a year you will receive another £25.00!

Training and Development

The training team at Cherish, led by Natalie Farmer are working hard at

developing appropriate training courses to help support the work carried out

by our care team. This includes developing the induction programme, specialist

training and supporting staff to complete their NVQ / QCF in Health and

Social Care.

As with all training, the NVQ / QCF is mandatory. This qualification will

support you in delivering care services by giving you the under pinning

knowledge this is required to be successful. Therefore it is essential that you

attend your meetings with your assessor.

Visit Times

Although your Care Coordinator will always try to accommodate your preferred time, this is not always possible. With all of our contracts (with commissioning authorities and private clients) we have listed a 30 minutes tolerance for all visits. This 30 minutes allows the care coordinators the flexibility within their rotas to cover sickness and holidays within the staff team. In the bigger picture this 30minutes ensures that we are able to deliver every visit, for every client with a member of their care team.

Our formidable Blackpool Registered Manager and

Head of Care Carly Bird is now on maternity leave.

Whilst she’s away, Sam Stockell has stepped up

and will carry out day to day care manager duties.

Sam Quinn, our Registered Manager at Wigan will

also be supporting the Blackpool team- two Sam’s..

like that’s not going to be confusing!

Carly will be back next year and we wish her all the

luck and happiness she deserves as she starts this

new chapter in her life!

Carly is having

a baby!

Finally a Guess who??

Please write who you think this is and hand in to the office—all names will

be put into a prize draw…...
