RATIONALE: The decision to hold an office within the NYPTA has personal and professional ramifications. Potential officer candidates must consider several factors, including, but not limited to, time away from work and family, impact on professional advancement, and the acknowledgement of their peers. The Nominating Committee is often hindered in the process of slating candidates because candidates are not adequately informed of the actual time and duty demanded of an officer position, and moreover, are not aware of the support the membership, other officers, or the NYPTA staff can provide. Often, the nominating committee members, who are assigned the task of slating candidates, find the Fall Conference an effective opportunity to discuss these factors with a viable and prospective candidate in person. Since the Fall Conference may or may not be annual, a change in the bylaws is necessary so as to reflect this practical and valuable opportunity. CURRENT PROCEDURE: III.
