Times Square
You're almost guaranteed to see some interesting sights, like this acrobatic family. But if you're interested in seeing a real show, be sure to scope out all the Broadway and off-Broadway theater options and pick up discounted tickets at the TKTS booth right in the middle of Times Square.

These drag queens are putting on a mock wedding to spread the word about same-sex marriage, which passed in New York in July 2011. Diversity certainly abounds in the Big Apple. Museum of Arts and Design
So many museum choices, so little time. For something different, check out the Museum of Arts and Design, located in bustling Columbus Circle. You'll find exhibits featuring everyday objects, like Red Bull cans, bedazzled and turned into contemporary art.

If you haven't gotten your fill of sweets yet, walk down the street to Dylan's Candy Bar, where you'll walk up these sweet stairs to a plethora of candy, chocolate and other delicacies. This place carries over 5,000 types of candy! Don't miss the fondue station!

FAO Schwarz
Like a kid in a candy store to an actual toy store! The oldest toy store in the United States, FAO Schwarz is celebrating its 150th anniversary in 2012.

Coney Island
Located in Brooklyn, Coney Island is another must-see. From the eccentric characters to the fun rides and games to Nathan's famous hot dog stand, there's something for everyone. July 4 marks the annual hot dog eating contest, but the popular Coney Island staple is offered year-round.
