Rev. Rebecca Luter
Deepening our Discipleship
T his morning my life was abruptly slowed down. My car
wouldn’t shift out of first gear, so I was forced to slow down
to 15 miles an hour. I had a choice to make in that moment. I
could fume. I could continually nudge the gas and force the engine
to rev in hopes that it would shift…or, I could go slow. I went slow. I
looked at the green lawns. I noticed the flowers. I appreciated the
beauty of the morning. I noticed yards and homes that I pass every
day, but I have never slowed down to notice.
And I began to think about how much I miss every day because I
speed through life. At first, I was trying to make good use of my time
as I drove slowly and waited at the auto repair shop. So, I thought
about what I would write for the front of the May newsletter.
The church calendar is full of events. Mother’s Day the children are
singing a special song for mothers, May 11th we will have a picnic at
Cameron Brown Park, May 15th is Pentecost Sunday and I will be
installed as the Pastor of Farmington, May 22nd Presbyterian Women
will enjoy lunch together after church and all of the church is
encouraged to head to Pinecrest for a special afternoon of worship
and storytelling, May 23rd and 24th the preschoolers of the Day School
(Continued on page 2)
May 2016
Adults and children worked together to feed the need and enjoyed an incredible Stop Hunger Now
event, April 17.
April 22, Farmington Family were in the stands at Game 3 of the Grizzlies vs.
the Spurs.
will present their Spring Concert and Art Show,
and May 29th we remember Memorial Day in
worship. “So many options for me to highlight
on the front of the newsletter,” I thought, “…too
many to mention them all...what a busy month!”
May is often a busy month: Mother’s Day, field
days, end of school parties, graduations,
showers for summer weddings, Memorial Day
weekend,…so many good and joyful
celebrations. And I realized this morning that I
might be tempted to speed through them. You
might be too. In my rush, I miss so much.
So, I am committing to slowing down and
noticing. I am marking my May calendar, and I
invite you to do the same, with the events and
days to slow down and notice. I plan to notice
the faces of my children on Mother’s Day, faces
that have changed from baby to child and are
now changing again. I plan to notice the sounds
of laughter and running and conversation at the
park during the picnic at Cameron Brown. I
plan to notice the sensation of the hands placed
on my shoulders as we pray for God to guide me
and Farmington Presbyterian. I plan to mark
the evening I see the first firefly of the summer.
I plan to take a picture as my son walks out the
door the last day of elementary school that
matches the one I took the first day he walked
out the door to Kindergarten. I plan to notice —
and I invite you to slow down and notice too.
Music Program and Art Show
Day School News
W e are surrounded by incredibly smart and talented
children. Now is the time for them to show their
stuff. May 23—24 Day School kids will be displaying
art they have created in class and performing songs they have
learned in music with Mrs. Anita. Farmington Church will be
greeting and ushering for the event. Don’t miss this art gallery
and performance by the children of the Farmington Family.
Trike-A-Thon raised over $7000
T he Music was pumping, the car wash was
spraying, the lemonade was flowing, and the
trikes and bikes were racing around the
Farmington Parking lot on April 17! Trike-A-Thon was a
huge success as we raised over $7000 for St. Jude's
Children’s Hospital. Thank you everyone who gave of
their time and money to make this event amazing.

T hese are a few of the words that explode
into stories after youth attend Montreat
Youth Conference. Surrounded by
beautiful mountains and the incredible
fellowship with Presbyterian youth from all over
the United States, students experience the love of
God and the freedom of Christ in new and life
changing ways. Farmington last attended
Montreat in 2006. Now, 10 years later, we return
with a new group of young people to this beloved
“thin place” where the Spirit of God seems closer
and more accessible than our busy homes.
We invite you to be a part of our journey by
investing in the Montreat experience
While other stock markets go up and down, an
investment in our youth is an investment in the
future and offers proven returns. We are
offering shares of stock in this trip at $10 per
share. When you buy one or more shares, you
will be entitled to receive a postcard from the
youth while they are on retreat and daily blog
updates via email from Doug Barr.

A new museum exhibition is in town showcasing
a multi-million dollar Faberge Egg and you're
planning to steal it. You and your group are
sneaking in after hours. You will have to get the
codes, solve the puzzles from the art gallery, and
not to mention having to navigate through a la-
ser trap to get to your prize. Your task is to get to
the egg and get the code to escape the room in 60
minutes. Be careful, it won't be easy!
Buy truth, and do not sell it, Get wisdom and instruction
and understanding. -Proverbs 23:23

April Birthdays
Session Report This month, we welcomed Vesta and Joanna
Andrews into the Farmington family. We
approved a revision of Personnel Policy to
include a salary continuance benefit for
salaried staff. We recommended to
Trustees that the unused pews in the
Sanctuary near the Chancel be donated to a
congregation which has shown interest in
having them.
