The Trees are in the Ground! On October 27th, 50 volunteers braved the cold, rain, and grey to plant out afood forest along the south bank of the Bullskin Run. Our combined heroicefforts resulted in 300 TREES being planted! There are now new hazelnuts, chestnuts, persimmons, service berries, paw paws, elderberries, and moresafe and snug in the ground, protected by fencing from the deer.

As the elements receded, happy faces lit the way!

On behalf of Claymont, the permaculture committee, and mother Earth, aHUGE THANK YOU must go out to Kit McGinnis for organizing the project, getting the entire thing funded, and relying on her prophetic vision to keepus going despite the ominous forecasts that we faced. And thank you to theWest Virginia Division of Forestry for your generosity, both in resources andin knowledge sharing. You trained and stewarded us well, and we are sograteful to you for this new community of trees on the land!

And last, but never least...for all the labor, love, determination, grit, and energy that was brought by the volunteers who came out thatSaturday and Sunday, THANK YOU! Thanks to all those pictured and not

Event AnnouncementWe're thrilled to announce that we will be hosting the 2019 Mid-AtlanticPermaculture Convergence next year! The event will take place on June29th & 30th, 2019.

The theme of this convergence is self-reliance; the goal is to equipattendees with a broad array of knowledge, skills, and experiences related toempowerment and know-how around the basics: food, water, health, energy, community, and building. In a consumerist paradigm built arounddisempowerment regarding what it takes to keep us alive, healthy, andhappy, this feels of ever-increasing importance.

If you would like to sign up to teach a workshop during the Convergenceweekend, or if you know someone who would be a great workshop teacheror panelist, please reply to this email.

JOIN THE PLANNING COMMITTEE!We are also looking for volunteers to help with the planning of the event, toassist with: marketing, graphic design, corporate sponsorship, and more! Allvolunteers will receive a free ticket to the event, and months of verbalaffirmations and gratitude from Emily. If you want to be on the planningcommittee, reply to this email!

"Permaculture principles focus on thoughtful designs for small-scaleintensive systems which are labor efficient and which use biologicalresources instead of fossil fuels. Designs stress ecological connections andclosed energy and material loops. The core of permaculture is design andthe working relationships and connections between all things."
