New Mexico Wineries

New Mexico’s history with wine dates all the way back to the early 1600s when monks cultivated the state’s first grapes (although it was not a state at that time).

New Mexico has a breathtaking landscape, everything from mountains to dry deserts are a part of the geography within the state’s borders. This variety, along with an unpredictable climate, has made New Mexico a wine production paradise.

New Mexico wineries stretch from Albuquerque to Farmington and cultivate a unique lineup of wine varieties and fruit. Some of the most commonly produced wine by New Mexico Vineyards include reds like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlots, and Ruby Cabernets, while some white wine varieties include Leon Millot and Villard Blanc.

However, there are hundreds of different types of grapes cultivated onNew Mexico vineyards so there is bound to be a taste or flavor to accommodate any palette.

Through serious trials and tribulations wineries in New Mexico have come out on top. Going through great floods and prohibition could not stop the growth and expansion of New Mexico wineries.

Even though many long-standing wineries have been destroyed, over the past 40 years the state has experienced a reemergence of wine production, and today there are over 35 active New Mexico Vineyards.
