As I look outside the window, I can see piles of snow in the grass as the birds sing … I just have time to send out a wintery newsletter but spring is definitely on its way!

In the studio, we are very excited that make-up artist Nicole Eichler Ruffinen of artApart will soon be joining us and I will be able to offer her services combined with shoots – more about this on the blog and in the next newsletter! Babys-im-Wasser, who share my location, will also be holding an open day to celebrate 20 years in business where there will be a chance to try out swimming courses and aquagym for mums-to-be (please book in advance 078 890 60 55) as well as crafts for kids, a wheel of fortune and pizza - you can find out more here: https://www.facebook.com/BabysImWasser or http://www.babys-im-wasser.ch/ueber-uns/20-jahre-babys-im-wasser/

I will be exhibiting once again at the Expat Expo in Cham on Sunday 22 March (11 am – 5 pm). This will take place at the Lorzensaal and is not just for expats – over 80 businesses will be exhibiting there and there will be many free gifts on the day (I will be giving away two hours of private tuition worth CHF 160 so come by my table and leave your contact details for a chance to win). For more details, see: http://www.expat- expo.info

I am pleased to say that my new website has been launched too – if you have any feedback then please do let me know. New product samples will soon also be arriving at the studio and I will be showcasing these at the Expat Expo in Cham and at studio get-togethers in the spring.

Another mini-session will be held outdoors at the end of April (perfect if you want an updated family image or two) as well as mother and daughter sessions (just so you don’t forget – Mother’s Day in Switzerland (and the US and Canada) is Sunday 10 May.

Hope to see you at one of the above events and until then, enjoy watching the spring unfold.

“I wonder if the snow loves the trees and fields, that it kisses them so gently? And then it covers them up snug with a white quilt; and perhaps it says “Go to sleep, darlings, till the summer comes again.”

- Lewis Carroll

Photo Shoot Spotlight - Mom in Balance

Back in the autumn and more recently just a few weeks ago in the snow, I joined a Mom in Balance work-out session outdoors and photographed some very active women!

The mission behind the Mom in Balance Workout Program is to help as many (expecting) mothers feel physically strong and full of energy, better equipping them to fully enjoy motherhood. Led by a team of motivated and enthusiastic trainers I can highly recommend these workout sessions which take place outdoors regardless of the season or weather. It is great to see that it really is possible to exercise all the way up to the end of a pregnancy. Classes also include those for mothers wanting to get back into shape too.

Find out more about classes here: http://www.mominbalance.ch/locations/

I am also pleased to extend a special offer to all newsletter readers - anyone joining up and starting workouts in March and April will receive a 10% discount as well as a free trial session. For those who are interested in finding out more, please contact Barbara on: [email protected]

Charity Shoot Spotlight - Herzensbilder

Several years ago I attended a photography conference in the UK and heard US photographer Sandy Puc speak about the organisation she had helped set up with a grieving mother after the loss of her baby - https://www.nowilaymedowntosleep.org - you can read more about what she told us that day here. It was the first time most of us had ever heard of remembrance photography and the room was completely hushed as Sandy told us more about the organisation and what it does. At the end Sandy said “I know you are all scared and wondering how you can do this but please consider applying to join the organization as photographers and provide this service to families suffering the loss of a child or parent.”

At the time I felt I was not ready to join but I never forgot what she said and kept in touch with the work of the organisation. Two years ago in Switzerland I came across Kirsten Birkeland who has herself suffered the loss of a child and this is how I came to hear about a similar charity - http://www.herzensbilder.ch. Photographers (and others including hair and make-up artists) provide photography for families with terminally-ill children or who have suffered the loss of a child or parent. The site is not yet in English but for those who read German - you can find out more here.

I now volunteer as a photographer and this has taken me into an area of photography which has taken me out of my comfort zone and which can be very emotional. When I first joined the organisation, I would often apply for an assignment half-hoping someone lived closer or would be selected instead of me. Now that I have captured images for a few families, I feel very lucky to be part of a charity which supports parents and children going through unimaginable situations. For those who read German, you can read more about my first assignment here.

Families contacts the charity directly and often hear about it via flyers in doctors surgeries or hospitals. Hospital staff and doctors are often aware of the work too. If you would like to receive flyers for your local surgery or hospital, please do not hesitate to contact me or Kerstin and we will send these to you. Anyone who may be in need of such photographs can contact Kerstin directly on the email above. Donations are also gladly accepted and you can find out more about that here - thank-you!

Kind Words“Before I met Andaleeb I was nervous about having a photoshoot but I knew I needed professional images for my new website. Andaleeb is a phenomenal photographer who made me feel in-stantly at ease and comfortable in front of her camera. She was able to interpret what I wanted perfectly and got 110% out of me on the day - I never knew I could look so natural in a photo - a truly amazing feat!”
