3. Engage in learning activities with learners from multiple cultures through e-mail and other electronic means. (2, 6)

• Students will participate in a classroom project about the continents with another classroom from a different country through epals.

• Students will sign up for electronic pen pals through the Pen Pal Box website and learn about their pen pal’s culture. After several weeks of getting to know their pen pals, they will then create a presentation on PowerPoint about their pen pal’s culture to present to the class.

2. Identify, research, and collect data on an environmental issue using digital resources and propose a developmentally appropriate solution. (1, 3, 4)

Students will do research on the internet about the effects of global warming. They will then collaborate in groups of three for solutions to global warming. Students will present their solutions in a classroom newsletter.

Students will identify an environmental issue of their choice. They will do research on their issue and present their topic to the classroom.

6. Use simulations and graphical organizers to explore and depict patterns of growth such as the life cycles of plants and animals. (1, 3, 4)

Students will choose an animal of their choice to do research. Students will use a graphic organizer to depict the life cycle of the animal of their choice.

Students will work in groups of four to simulate the life cycle of a plant through the use of a puppet show. Each group will depict a different plant’s life cycle. Each group will have to create their own stick puppets. Each student in the group will have a separate part in the show and will have to narrate their part of the plant’s cycle.

10. Demonstrate the ability to navigate in virtual environments such as electronic books, simulation software, and Web sites. (6)

Students will do research on the internet about a historical figure. Students will have to use at least three reliable websites. Students will present their historical figure in a PowerPoint presentation.

Students will contribute to a class blog created by the teacher. They will each create a posting of themselves with biographical information and an image of themselves on the post.
