About the Third Grade Swim Program
The third grade swim program is really fun. Everybody
starts in the shallow end. Then Mr. McCaffrey checks two
kids at a time to see how good a swimmer they are and
if they can handle the deep end. SOME swimmers stay at
the shallow end for more practice. Some swimmers go
to the deep end to become a better swimmer.
Shallow End Activities First we learn how to
•Blow mouth bubbles
• Blow nose bubbles
•Next we practice blowing mouth bubbles and nose
bubbles together
• Then we do pencil floats and life floats.
• You go to the other side of the deep end and you tread water for 20 seconds.
• Then you do survival floats.
Shallow End GamesMay I : Find a partner then say, May I. If
they respond yes, put water in your hands
then put water on their head.
Underwater Handshakes: Find a partner.
Shake hands underwater. Then come back
up.
Both games are really fun.
Deep End Skills and ActivitiesFirst we use the boards and swim
around the pool. Then we practice free
style. Next we swim around the deep
end making a horseshoe. We float in
the pool, we jump off the diving board,
and do cannonballs in the pool.
Free Swim
At the end of lessons we have free swim
time in the shallow end.
One week the boys get the free swim the
next time the girls do.
Conclusion
The third grade swim program is very
helpful. It’s awesome for kids to learn
how to become better swimmers.
