Installing Nemo Handy

• Connect the Nokia USB data cable to the Nemo Handy mobile and to the computer where you have the Nemo Handy installation files.

• Select Data transfer as the Mode. • Copy the Nemo Handy .SIS file on the mobile memory card, for example, in the Nemo folder.• Disconnect the data cable from the mobile and computer.• Press the Menu/Applications button and press the round navigator button to select Tools.• Select File mgr.• Press the right arrow button to switch from the mobile memory to the memory card. Scroll to

the folder where you saved the .sis file, for example, Nemo, and press the navigator button.• Scroll to the Nemo Handy.sis file and press the navigator button.• If a security warning appears, press Yes to continue.• Press Yes to confirm the installation.• Select Install and press OK.• If you already have Nemo Handy installed on the mobile, the installer program will ask to

replace the old version. Press Yes.• Installation is started and when it is finished, you can start using Nemo Handy. Return to the

menu view by pressing Back, Exit, and Back.



Connecting GPS

• External Bluetooth GPS, or integrated GPS receiver can be used• If using Bluetooth GPS:

– Switch on the Bluetooth GPS receiver. A green light will appear at the front of the device.– Activate Bluetooth on your Nemo Handy mobile – Pair the Bluetooth GPS receiver with the Handy mobile and set it as authorized connection

• Start Nemo Handy and select the used GPS (Bluetooth/internal) from Options | Settings | General | GPS

• When using internal GPS, A-GPS feature is also available• Next time when starting Handy, GPS will be automatically connected



Nemo Handy Displays

• There is separated default views for UMTS and GSM, changing dynamically based on the serving system

• Views are in two dimensions, and they can be navigated with left/right/down/up arrow keys• With configuration editor (Windows application) , it is possible to customize and/or remove

existing views, and create new views.• Detailed information can be found from Nemo Handy Display Guide



User Configurable Custom View

• With Nemo Handy’s custom view you can tailor a view to your own needs• Go to the custom view with the navigation right button on your phone’s keypad, and select

Display. Here you have the option to choose Parameter or Page. The End editing option will end the editing mode. Please refer to the manual for detailed description how to add and remove parameters.

Configuring Graph Scales

• When multiple parameters are shown in one line graph, Y-axis scale for one parameter can be shown at time

• Used scale, and scaling mode can be configured:

– Press navigate button to select parameter to be configured

– Set Y-axis scale : Parameter | Set Active– Auto scaling: Parameter | Auto scale

• Real-time statistics for voice call, video call, PDP context, FTP, HTTP, and inter-system cell reselections/handovers

• Available in horizontal display nr. 9• Reset statistics: Options | Tools |

Indoor Map

• Digital images (e.g., .jpg) can be used as maps (take a picture from a building floor plan)

• Zoom in/out and pan functions are supported• Markers can be placed on the map to draw the test route• Results can be displayed on a color-coded route in post-

processing• Map is created as follows:

1. Copy floor plan (e.g. jpg) to phone memory card2. Options | Settings | Indoor map | Map file | Import image3. Tab-file is automatically generated.

• Existing map can be opened by repeating the point 2. and opening an existing tab file

Data Logging

• Start logging: Options | Start Logging• The measurement is being recorded when Logging State is Logging in the Status view. • Mobile can be used as any regular mobile. Nemo Handy runs in the background

recording all measurement data. • With 1GB memory card about 100 hours of measurement data can be stored• Stop logging: Options | Stop Logging• If you wish to exit Nemo Handy, select Exit.• Nemo Handy generates .nbl file that need to be converted to .nmf ASCII file with

Nemo File Manager software.• Note: all the data is always recorded, regardless of the active display



Circular Log file

• Under Options | Settings | Properties |Logging Options you will find settings related to log files

• Circular log file option refers to a logging mode where the most recent data is buffered in the memory

• User can define the size of the buffer, e.g. last ten minutes of data

• Useful feature in troubleshooting: logging can be always on, and when a problem occurs, logging is stopped and the last X minutes (and the problem) is stored in the measurement file



Manual transactions

• Voice calls, video calls, SMS, and MMS can be done manually from the Handy

– Radio KPIs, and transactions (call attempt, connect, disconnect, dropped, attempt failed) are recorded

• Options | Tools | Make voice call\Make video call\ etc.

• In addition, any packet applications can used from the mobile while Handy is logging in the background

– Radio KPIs and PPP throughput is recorded



Scripting

• FTP, HTTP, SMS, MMS, HTML, WAP, email voice calls, video calls etc. can be automatically tested with scripts

• Scripts are created and edited directly with the Nemo Handy, or with Script Editor windows software

• Generating scripts is easy • Add new transactions to the

sequence and define the number of time the sequence will be repeated

Using Scripts

• To run a script, select Options | Script | Open

• List of script files found from the memory card folder is displayed

• Select the script and Select Load/Run/Edit• To load a script to Nemo Handy, select

Options | Script | Open• Select a script file from the list of available

scripts. • Run the script from Options | Script | Run• Note! Logging must be set on separately, or

by Auto logging on functionality (Options | Script | Set Auto logging On)

• Stop the script from Options | Script | Stop



Forcing

• Nemo Handy supports the following forcing features:

– Channel lock– Scrambling code lock– System lock– Cell barring

• Note that the selection depends on the technology that the mobile is connected to.

• Note that the mobile must be in idle mode when activating the forcing features.

• The forcing features are accessed by pressing the Options button at the bottom of the Nemo Handy view.



Channel Lock

• With Channel Lock Nemo Handy can be locked on a GSM channel

• Select Options | Forcing | Channel Lock

• Select Lock to activate the channel lock

• Enter the number of the channel that you want to lock to

• Press OK



Scrambling Code Lock

• With the Scrambling Code Lock the mobile can be locked on a carrier and a scrambling code

• Select Options | Forcing | Scrambling Code Lock. Select Lock to activate the scrambling code lock

• Enter the number of the carrier (UARFCN) and the scrambling code that you want to lock to and press OK



System Lock

• With the System Lock, the mobile can be locked on one of the systems: UMTS, GSM, GSM 900, GSM 1800, and GSM 1900

• Select Options | Forcing | System Lock• Select Lock to activate the system lock.

Select the system that you want to lock to.



Cell Barring

• In Cell Barring the options are accept, reverse, and ignore.

• The Status view will display the status for each forcing feature

• Select Options | Forcing | Cell Barring • Select Reverse or Ignore to activate the

cell barring• When the Accept option is selected, only

those cells that are accessible to all end users can be accessed

• With the Ignore option, all cells, that is, also cells that are barred can be accessed

• With Reverse option only barred cells can be accessed



Notifications

• Audio notifications can be used to notify you of important measurement events

• Notifications can be edited with the Nemo Handy Configuration Manager tool (e.g. threshold value for best RSCP low)

• Select Options | Settings | Properties | Notifications. A list of available notifications is displayed.

• Select and deselect each notification by selecting an item from the list and pressing the navigate button.

• You can also select all on / off• Notification volume can be adjusted



Freeze Display

• At any time during the measurements you can freeze the Nemo Handy display

• Select Options | Freeze Display or press button C on your mobile

• The text Freeze is displayed at the top left corner of the Nemo Handy view

• Logging will continue even when the freeze display option is activated.

• To continue viewing the data, select Options | Unfreeze Display or press button C on your mobile

• Useful feature when a problem occurs for investigation of the status of different parameters in different displays in the event of the problem



Serving cell info

• Regardless of the active view, the key information of the serving cell can be viewed in the serving cell info display

• Press # button to toggle serving cell info view on/off

• Parameters shown for WCDMA:– Carrier number– Active set scrambling codes– Cell ID

• Parameters shown for GSM:– Channel number– Cell ID– BSIC

• The parameters shown can be changed with Nemo Handy configuration editor



Markers

• Markers can be placed to the log file• Can be used to mark places where

something interesting happened (e.g. bad voice quality) during the measurement

• With markers the time instant can be easily found in the post-processing

• Markers can be added by pressing <edit> button (the pen icon), or from menu: Options | Tools

• Each marker has unique number, that is incremented for each new marker

• User-defined text can be saved in the marker: Options | Tools | Add Text Marker



Auto-Answer Mode

• When Nemo Handy is in auto answer mode, it answers all incoming calls: voice calls and 3G video calls.

• This feature is especially useful when you are making video calls between two Nemo Handy mobiles.

• Just set the other mobile in auto answer mode and run a video call script on the other mobile

• Select Settings | Turn Auto Answer On to activate the feature and Settings | Turn Auto Answer Off to deactivate the feature.

• Note that when running a script on Nemo Handy, the Auto Answer option is turned off.



Scanning Mode – GSM (frequency scanning)

• Scanning mode is either Single-shot or continuous• User can select the band and channel range• Option to report all or 30 best channels• BSIC decoding on/off

Scanning Mode – WCDMA (pilot scanning)

• Scanning mode is either Single-shot or continuous• User can select the UMTS band• Define the RSCP limit

WCDMA scan parameters:- Ec/No- Channel- RSCP- Scrambling Code

• First scan can take up to 2 minutes (depends on available channels in the network).• In continuous mode, following scans around 15-20 seconds



Assisted Handover - GSM

• Inter-system handover is not supported.• Voice calls needs to be active before command can be seen in

the menu.• With Assisted Handover you can "force" the terminal to the

wanted band or channel Handy UI command: "Assist Handover"

User can configure the band (GSM 900, 1800, etc..), channel and BSIC where he wants to change. OR user selects the channel from the neighbor list



Assisted Handover - WCDMA

• Inter-system handover is not supported.• Values that are used in Assisted Handover can be adjusted. So the user can tune how

"easily" the handover should happen . Tuning means, that there's four offset values than can be changed:

- Ec/N0 enhance (Offset to add to Ec/N0 measurements from HO cell (0-30 dB)- Ec/N0 degrade (Offset to add subtract from Ec/N0 measurements from other cells (0-30 dB)- RSCP enhance (Offset to add to RSCP measurements from HO cell (0-100 dBm)- RSCP degrade (Offset to add subtract from RSCP measurements from other cells (0-100 dBm)• So with this you can "virtually" boost the power of the configured cell. By default the values

are configured so, that it will always do the handover.• These features can also be disabled during the call (if they were enabled) and the terminal

will return to default state and will select the channels etc normally.



Handover Suppression – GSM/WCDMA

• Voice calls needs to be active before command can be seen in the menu.

GSM• With Handover suppression you can prevent the handover, so the terminal will stay on the

same cell/channel Handy UI command: "Suppress Handover“WCDMA• With Handover suppression you can prevent the handover, so the terminal will stay on the

• One Handy acting as a MASTER - control unit (N85 or 6720)

Slave / start-up

• Starts up just like normal Handy• Switch mode to Nemo Handy multi

Returning to normal operation

• After multi measurements both master and slave mobiles can be returned to normal single Handy operation



Measurement Files

• After you have done the measurement, you can collect files from all the slaves.• When you are connected to the slaves with the master, you have the option in the multi

menu to “Collect Log Files” • This feature will collect the files using Bluetooth and combine those to one file, that can be

converted in File Manager• After conversion you will have one measurement file for each terminal and numbered with

.1, .2, .3 and so on (like Outdoor multi files)• Notice that if you don’t collect the files after the measurement, you need to manually get the

files from all the slaves and then use File Manager to convert the single files



Playback

• It is possible to view Nemo Handy measurement files immediately after a measurement using the Nemo Handy playback functionality. This feature is convenient when you, for example, want to solve a specific problem in a certain area, and would like to obtain quick answers.

• As an example of the feature, Playback together with the Assisted handover and Existing Cell Tester features present a high-end combination of testing features for onsite troubleshooting.



Exporting Files Manually

• In order to post-process the measurement files, they need to be exported from Nemo Handy into PC and converted into standard Nemo File Format

• Open the MiniSD memory card port on the left side of the mobile• Remove the memory card from the mobile by pressing the card with your finger. • Attach the card to into the MiniSDUSB memory card reader.• Connect the reader to a USB port on a PC. Windows will automatically detect the USB

device. The measurement files (.nbl) will be on the memory card in folder Nemo\Results.• Copy and save the files on the PC where you have installed the Nemo File Manager



Exporting files Automatically (Log File Auto-Upload)

• Log files can be automatically sent to an FTP server or email address over GPRS/EDGE/WCDMA packet data

• No need for manual transfers with a memory card adapter or PC suite

• FTP/SMTP server settings need to be configured before this feature can be used: Options | Settings

• Immediately after stopping measurement as below, or: Options | Tools | Send Logfile(s)



Converting Files to Standard Nemo File Format

1. Start the Nemo File Manager utility by selecting Start | Programs | Nemo Tools | Nemo File Manager.

2. Click the Add Items button and select the files to be converted from the opening dialog

3. Select the destination folder for the converted files

4. Click OK to start the conversion process.5. When the Status column displays

Finished you can close the utility by clicking Exit.

Hint:Another way to convert single nbl files is to set them by default be opened with Nemo File manager: Right-click on a .nbl file | Open With… | Check “Always use the selected program to open this kind of file” checkbox | press Browse | select Nemo File manager.exe in \Nemo tools\Nemo File Manager



Configuration Editor

• All parameter and KPI views in Nemo Handy are user-configurable • Only the Status, Script, and GPS views are fixed and cannot be edited• Existing views can be edited, removed, and new views can be added with the Nemo

Handy Configuration Editor tool that is included in the Nemo Handy package• Install the Nemo Handy Configuration Editor on your PC by running the Nemo Handy

Configuration Editor Setup.msi file. • After installation, start the program by selecting Start | Programs | Nemo Tools | Nemo

Handy Configuration Editor.• From Nemo Handy version 3.20 user can also hide default views directly from the

application menu

• The left-side tree presents a list of Nemo Handy displays that can be edited.

• First level presents views, pop-up Views, and notifications

• Second level presents horizontal pages

• Third level presents vertical sub pages

• Fourth level presents parameter group

• Fifth level presents individual parameter

• Note that the displays are different in UMTS and GSM.



Tips and Hints (1/2)

• Before you start logging with Nemo Handy, please check that the mobile is in idle mode, i.e., there are no data connections or calls ongoing. If there is a call on when you start logging, it may affect the measurement results.

• It is recommended that you use the mobile memory to store the test files downloaded from the FTP server and the memory card for storing the Nemo Handy log file. This is to prevent log file writing problems in cases where files are downloaded and the log file is written simultaneously on the memory card.

• When downloading files with FTP, save them in the C:\Nokia folder or create a new subfolder, e.g., C:\Nokia\Nemo. This way you will be able to view and delete the files with the File Manager application.



Tips and Hints (2/2)

• If you move too far away from the Bluetooth GPS receiver or the receiver battery goes flat, the GPS state in the Nemo Handy GPS view switches to ‘Not connected’. In such a case, you do not need to restart Nemo Handy. Just re-establish the Bluetooth connection by selecting Options | Connect GPS in Nemo Handy.

• If you want to change to another Bluetooth GPS receiver, you need to delete the pairing between the existing GPS receiver and Nemo Handy first. Go to the main menu of the Nokia mobile and select Menu | Connectivity | Bluetooth | Paired Devices | Delete.
