Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela was born in a village in the Transkei on the 18 July 1918.

Official ANC Policy
• ANC decided to fight Apartheid by using
peaceful means.
• Strikes, demonstrations and non-co-operation.
• This was the accepted official ANC policy.
The convicted were taken to Robben Island Prison - June 16th 1964

FW De Klerk (the last white President of South Africa) started talks with Mandela and the ANC, leading to the release of Nelson in 1990 after 27 years in prison.
