– Level 1 for Year 11 students– Level 2 for Year 12 students– Level 3 for Year 13 students

Assessment

• All assessment is standards based.

• Subjects are broken into Achievement Standards.

• Some of the Achievement Standards for each subject are externally assessed at the end of the year.

• Some standards are internally assessed throughout the year – tests, assignments, reading logs, practical projects etc.

• Every Achievement Standard is marked using Standards Based Assessment.

– Standards describe what a student knows and can do.

– Standards describe the level of work that students need to produce.

• Advanced Subsidiary

• First half of a full A Level (second half = A2)

• A sound foundation for tertiary study.

• A student can gain general university entrance in NZ from AS.

MIXED NCEA/CAMBRIDGE ASSESSMENT INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION COURSES

Students sometimes study a subject that is not available in theirmain qualification (e.g Languages) or with English (ESOL) (andLiteracy for Academic Purposes) and occasionally Mathematics ifthey have difficulties or exceptional ability in these subjects.

At Year 12 and 13 studying a subject in the other qualification isoccasionally acceptable as long as UE is not compromised.(Note: mixing NCEA and Cambridge International for Literacy andNumeracy is usually acceptable for UE but not always.)

Students must seek approval from senior management if they wishto take a mixed course.

Costs• NCEA is funded by the Government. Students pay a one-off entry

fee for the setting and marking of examinations.

• Cambridge Assessment International Education administration isheavily funded by the school to cover administration costs andsalaries, textbooks, general equipment, IT resources, examsupervision, staff training, affiliation fees etc. The school charges anadministration fee to cover these costs.

• Subject entry costs are charged by Cambridge AssessmentInternational Education for the setting and marking of examinationsand vary between courses and vary according to the exchange rate.

• Please refer to the letter sent to all parents regarding NCEA andCambridge Assessment International Education fees and theCourse Information Booklet.
