Sundays at BereanWorship ServicesSANCTUARY8:30am, Worship CenterWorship in a traditional format with classic hymns and congregational songs from 1900 - 2012. Led by choir and supporting band or orchestra. This service also features special music by soloists, ensembles, and the handbell choir.

Children’s Sunday School8:30, 9:50, and 11:15amNursery care is provided for infants through age three. We also offer Bible-based curriculum with stories, songs, and play time for ages 18 months through Kindergarten.

8:30, 9:50, and 11:15amChildren attend part of the worship service with their parents. When indicated, children are dismissed and escorted downstairs for their age-appropriate lesson. We encourage all families to model worship for your children in this way.

8:30 and 11:15amLarge group, age-appropriate worship that includes singing, prayer, a Bible sermonette, stories, and fun.

9:50amChildren meet in a large group setting which encourages them to build friendships and apply God’s word in their lives. Children then break into small groups by grade, led by their teacher.

THE CURRENT9:50 and 11:15am, Worship CenterA contemporary service with edgier, modern worship music played by a worship team and band. This is a creative service which uses illustrations, special lighting, and compelling music to support the message in a way that is relevant.

HOLY WEEK AT BEREANMarch 24-31, 2013Join us for Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter Sunday services. Watch the bulletin and our website for information about service times.

Saturday, April 27, 9am-Noon, GymBerean attenders and people from the community are invited to shop an assortment of gently-used kids and teen clothes, toys, videos, books, and baby equipment. We also offer free kids haircuts, breakfast, and a children’s play area. Everything is free of charge and shoppers are encouraged to take as much as they can use. Donations of items are welcome and can be dropped off in the nursery year round. To donate larger items such as furniture, please call to make arrangements. Volunteers are needed to help with set-up April 25-26. Contact Mendie Skarp at 651.460.4288.

SELAH IN CONCERTPRESENTED BY THE BEREAN FOUNDATIONFriday, February 87pm in the Berean Worship CenterYou won’t want to miss out on this concert! Selah has always been synonymous with hymns since their debut in 1999, but they also have a collection of original songs and music from current songwriters which have earned them numerous Dove Awards, number one singles, and over two and a half million albums sold. Tickets will be available for purchase beginning January 13. This is the perfect opportunity to invite a friend to Berean!

MARRIAGE MENTORSAt Berean, we equip Marriage Mentors to be key players in preventing marital problems by coaching couples with the skills and tools for more successful relationships. Our Marriage Mentors help married and engaged couples talk about the hopes, dreams, and expectations they have for their marriage.

Our mentors are trained to know when and how to refer a couple to a licensed, professional counselor, if needed.

The Benevolent Fund provides emergency help to people in need at Berean and in our community. It is based on the Biblical incentive, “Whoever is kind to the needy honors God.” Proverbs 14:31. For more information, contact Vanessa Edwards, Benevolent Fund Director at 952.223.1821.

MILITARY SUPPORTBerean understands the challenges that are faced by those serving our country and their families, and we want to help. Our mission is Biblical and non-partisan. The Berean Foundation provides encouragement and guidance in long-term giving to special God-honoring ministries. It helps in the drafting of wills and the designation of legacy giving. It is a deeply committed agency for memorial giving, endowments, and grants.Each year, the Foundation awards a $3,000 college scholarship. The Troy Olson Memorial Scholarship is awarded each year to a student who is a Christian and regularly attends Berean. For more information, contact Paul Siewert at [email protected].

Berean Education Center (BEC)

One-on-one special care for children with special needs is provided on Sunday mornings to mainstream children who need help coping with a classroom setting. We assign special companions when desired. Companions also help the other children realize the value placed on each and every child by our creator, God. Questions? Please contact Kim Phillips.

There are still openings for Winter 2013!

BEC offers a variety of opportunities for children,

including preschool and pre-kindergarten classes

offered September through May. Preschool Plus

offers preschool and day care and is available year-

round for children 33 months through age 5, Monday-

Friday, 6:30am-6pm. School-Age Care is for children

attending Echo Park, kindergarten through 5th grade,

offered during the school year and summer.

BEC provides a loving, Christian setting for children

to grow physically, intellectually, emotionally, socially,

and spiritually. Please call Pam in the BEC office at

CHILDREN’S BAPTISMBaptism is a public way to identify with Christ and tell outwardly that we belong to Christ (Romans 6:3-4). Boys and girls can follow the example of Jesus who was baptized by John even though He was without sin (Matthew 3:13-1). Please watch the bulletin for more information about baptism dates and classes.

PINEWOOD DERBY Saturday, April 139am (Grades 3-4) and 11:30am (Grades 5-6)You won’t want to miss the fun! Make your own racecar and watch it compete. Trophies are awarded for the fastest, best workmanship, and most original design. Race kits ($4) include instructions, wood block, wheels, and axles. Original designs encouraged! Clubbers, please do your own sanding and painting. Parents, please help with cutting. When necessary, help with cutting will be available at church.

JUNIOR HIGH WINTER RETREATFebruary 22-24, Timber Bay CampThis year, we will be traveling to beautiful Timber Bay Camp in Onamia, MN. Spend a weekend growing closer to God and closer to friends, with broomball, tubing, snow shoeing, and cross country skiing. Not to mention an engaging speaker and energetic worship. Supporting Adoption, Orphan Care, and Foster Care We seek to champion the cause of children who are waiting to be part of Christ-centered forever families. Questions? Supper and SupportOne Friday a month we have an adoption support group that meets during the school year. The evening includes a light low cost meal and childcare during the presentation/discussion. This group is intended to build relationships between families who have already brought their children home or are waiting to welcome their children in the near future. WorshipTECHNICAL ARTS TEAMGadgets, gismos, and God are the focus of the “tech team” here at Berean. Most of our ministries rely on the use of technical support in the form of sound, lyrical support, lighting, and video transmission. We could use you on our team! DRAMAOur drama ministry enhances the theme of Vacation Bible School as well as produces videos and skits for sermon illustrations and announcements. If you are gifted in the dramatic arts or interested in video production, please contact Dana Ward.

WORSHIP TEAMRehearsal: Thursdays, 7-9pmThe worship team assists in leading worship during the contemporary services. This team is open to those age 16 or older who are comfortable singing parts and are able to improvise. Instrumentalists/vocalists must be able to practice on their own time and come prepared for rehearsal. The worship team leads during both contemporary services, and in special worship services throughout the year. If you are interested in auditioning for the worship team, please contact Terry Foss.

HANDBELL CHOIRRehearsal: Sundays, 6-7pm, Room 112Handbells add variety and interest to the worship services approximately once a month and at Christmas and Easter. Plus, they are fun to play! Anyone age 16 and older, with the ability to read music and the willingness to commit to the rehearsal time, is welcome. For more information, contact Clare Boyer.

SANCTUARY CHOIRRehearsal: Wednesdays, 6:45-8:15pmThe Sanctuary Choir is for anyone age 16 and older, who can sing, learn, and hold their own part. The choir regularly sings in the Sanctuary service (8:30am) and also participates in concerts throughout the year. For more information, contact Clare Boyer.

WORSHIP CHOIRRehearsal: Thursdays, 7-9pm (when scheduled)Berean’s worship choir is an exciting and relatively new addition to Worship Ministries! They join the contemporary worship team approximately every 4-6 weeks for both contemporary services. We are actively seeking choir members of all ages. CHILDREN’S CHOIRSRehearsal: Wednesdays, 5:55-6:45pmWe have four age-appropriate choirs for children in kindergarten through sixth grade. Raindrop, Sonbeam, Promise, and Rainbow choirs contribute to Sunday services, special events and the presentation of a full musical during the school year. A younger choir for four year olds is also available by early registration only, due to size limitations.

SERVE ON SUNDAYSPut your spiritual gifts to use by serving with Worship Ministries.

Guest Center: Volunteers running this area help direct newcomers to Adult Bible Fellowships and give them information about Berean. If you have the gift of hospitality, we are always looking to add friendly, energetic people to our team. Contact Salli Armour (see staff).

Ushers: Men and women are needed to assist with many aspects of creating an environment of worship. Contact Marc Rolando at [email protected].

Greeters: We are always on the lookout for bright, happy faces to welcome guests and regular attenders into our church. Contact Salli Armour (see staff).

Communion Preparers/Servers: The Lord’s Table is celebrated monthly as a congregation. Individuals are needed to prepare and serve the elements. Contact Rob Sink at [email protected].

Parking Lot Attendants: We need bold and brave Berean-ites to serve in the parking lot to help direct traffic in and out of Berean before, after, and between services. Contact Kay Larson (see staff).

Medical Personnel: A medical person is scheduled during all three worship services as a first responder in case of an emergency. We are looking for qualified healthcare professionals. Contact Marge Sanborn at 952.435.9051 or [email protected].

Prayer Team: Men and women are needed to serve in the Prayer Room after each worship service. Volunteers will pray confidentially with those needing support due to life issues or those seeking salvation. Contact Kari Peterson at [email protected].

BAPTISMBaptism is the external expression of our inward and personal faith. It declares “Jesus is Lord” in a public and visible fashion, announcing to everyone that we have surrendered to a new authority in our lives. Berean offers indoor baptism during the fall/winter/spring months.

You might have questions about why we baptize by immersion, if you should be re-baptized as an adult, or even if baptism is a requirement for salvation. These questions and more will be answered in the pre-requisite class. Please contact Kay Larson if you are interested in being baptized.

10TH ANNUAL VESPERS CONCERTWednesday, May 22, 8pm, Main CommonsThe Vespers Concert is a collection of anthems and special music from the previous year. This concert closes the choir season.

It’s a lifestyle. A form of worship. We want to encourage Christ followers to live out their faith every day in

tangible ways which transform our communities and ourselves in the process.

Be sure to check out the newly updated Local and Global Outreach section on the Berean website as well as on Facebook!

GIVE.First Foods - On the first Sunday of each month we receive food contributions from the Berean community which are given to local food shelves and other organizations. Bags can be picked up and dropped off at the Local Outreach Drop-off located near the Main Office.Furniture Ministry - We accept donated furniture and household items at our storage units until placement is made in homes within the Burnsville and surrounding communities. We accept many types of donations in good condition.

Want to donate? Check our website for a list of the items we do and do not accept. Want to help deliver? If you have a truck, van, or a heart to help out, let us know—we always need more help picking up and delivering furniture.

PRAY.We are continually praying for how we can reflect God and His love in our community around us. Watch for updated prayer requests on the website and Give.Pray.Serve. posters.

We also offer free kids haircuts, breakfast, and a children’s play area. Everything is free of charge and shoppers are encouraged to take as much as they can use. Donations of items are welcome and can be dropped off in the nursery year round. To donate larger items such as furniture, please call to make arrangements. Opportunities exist to host missionary families when they visit Berean for a few nights, help them with technical assistance (such as creating Facebook accounts, websites, or newsletter templates), or collecting resources and supplies for their ministries. SOMALI CONNECTIONYou don’t need to look very far to find opportunities to serve refugees who have suffered tremendously due to war, persecution, and extreme poverty. Burnsville has the one of the largest Somali refugee populations in the nation, and God has opened many doors for Berean to connect with our Muslim neighbors. You can serve them by volunteering:Homework Helpers - Help children succeed in school by helping them with their homework! Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, 3-5pm.Somali Adult Literacy Training (SALT) - Build relationships with Somali adults while aiding them in learning English. Mondays and Wednesdays, 6-8pm.

HUI INITIATIVEThe Hui are an unreached Muslim people living in Asia, numbering over 12 million, and are believed to be the largest people group in the world without a single known Christian fellowship group. Berean has responded to the call to reach this group by promoting short-term trips and projects to assist our missionary partners, and by praying for the Hui on a consistent basis.
