The Nature of Animals East Riding Schools Photography Competition

Would you like to discover some incredible wildlife in a breathtaking setting? Would you like to spend a day enjoying your very own masterclass in wildlife photography? Find out how your school could win a day at RSPB Bempton Cliffs with award-winning wildlife photographer, Steve Race.

The East Riding kicks off its cultural programme to accompany Hull UK City of Culture 2017 with a celebration of all things animals. To coincide with the Natural History Museum’s National Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition which will be on display at Beverley Art Gallery from 11 February to 22 April 2017, we are running a photography competition for East Riding schools on the theme The Nature of Animals.

We want children to capture a moment in the life of an animal or group of animals – it could be their own pet parrot showing off its unique personality, an urban fox on the prowl, a seagull stealing a chip or a cow on a rolling East Riding hilltop – and come up with a caption that describes it. We are looking for arresting images and creative captions that really do give a flavour of the nature of animals.

Some help and guidelines…

• Photographs can be taken on any sort of camera or phone and photo effects are allowed • Captions can be up to 140 characters (similar to a Tweet) and may take any form – a descriptive

sentence, a short poem (their own), a piece of Haiku etc. – but should not require any additional commentary

• Photographs should be new images taken especially for the competition (ie not holiday snaps of camels in Tunisia!)

• Animals should be taken in a ‘natural’ setting (which could be a living room, park or beach) but not in a zoo, sea life centre or similar animal sanctuary

How to enter

Send your image as a jpeg to [email protected]. Please include your child’s full name and year group. Also include the caption for the photo in the email.

A winner from each of the categories - Foundation Stage, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 will be chosen to be submitted by the school into the contest.

All entries must be sent by Thursday 20th April. Every entry we receive will be printed out and displayed in a Nature of Animals exhibition at school.

We look forward to seeing your photographs!
