Natural Disasters in Haiti and Pakistan Highlight
Diaspora Response
On January 12, 2010 a 7.0 earthquake devastated Haiti.
The earthquake killed over 200,000 people.Donations and aid were coming from all parts
of the world to the people affected by the earthquake.
During the time of the earthquake the United States granted TPS to many Haitians who were in the country illegally.
Definition of TPS: Allows recipients to work but does not lead to permanent residency.
After the deadly earthquake US Citizenship and Immigration Services expedited paperwork for those families needing permanent residency affected by the earthquake.
Other places like Canada also granted temporary visas.Pakistan also suffered greatly from a flood devastation.Pakistani Americans created the American Pakistan
Foundation to help those devastated by the flood in Pakistan.
The United States has helped other foreign areas devastated by natural disasters like Haiti and Pakistan.
