Hills, Goalpara, Kamrup, Karimganj, Kokrajhar, Lakhimpur, Nalbari and Tinsukia districts of Assam in
view of heavy rainfall and also arrange for draining out excess water from the fields to avoid water
stagnation.
• Postpone irrigation to the crops in Coochbehar, Jalpaiguri and Malda districts of Sub Himalayan West
Bengal, most of the districts of Kerala and Karnataka as there was good rain during last week.
• Farmers are also advised to postpone intercultural operation, application fertilizer and plant protection
measures to the crops in Assam as there is possibility of rainfall at many places during the period.
• Also postpone sowing of ridge gourd, bitter gourd, bottle gourd, pumpkin, frenchbean, bhindi etc. in
Arunachal Pradesh.
• Proper drainage system may be arranged to protect the early sown maize in Assam from water logging
due to rain during last week and also rain likely to occur. Also arrange for draining out excess water
from the fields of SRI crop.
• In view of prevailing high temperature in Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, farmers
are advised to apply light and frequent irrigation to the standing crops to meet the excess evaporative
demands.
• Farmers are advised to apply irrigation to the standing crops in Orissa, Bihar, Jharkhand, Andhra
Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh in view of no significant rain during
last week and also due to less possibility of rain during next five days.
• High temperature conditions prevailed over Telangana region in Andhra Pradesh. Farmers are advised to
apply light and frequent irrigation to overcome heat injury on standing crops.
• Harvesting of the already matured wheat is advised in North West India as weather will be mainly dry
for the next five days. Harvested crops should be properly tied to avoid being carried away by winds.

• Due to increase in air temperature farmers are advised to protect banana bunch with plastic sheet in
Gujarat and banana and papaya fruits in Chhattisgarh using cover by leaves or jute bags to protect the
fruits from sun scorching.
7
• To protect newly planted grafts of coconut and areca nut in Maharashtra from bright sunlight shades
may be prepared from south side and mulching may be done with grass or paddy straws.
• With receipt of good rains in high hills in Himachal Pradesh, prepare the basins of apple orchard and
apply half dose of nitrogen when the sky is clear.
• Utilising recent rain continue sowing operation of jute in West Bengal. The recommended varieties are
Chaitali, Basudev, Naveen, Sonali, Sobujsona, Shyamali etc.
• Conserve water received from recent rain to prepare fields for raising rice nursery in raised bed in
Arunachal Pradesh.
• Utilising recent rain prepare land for sowing of aus rice in New Alluvial zone of West Bengal. If land is
already prepared and irrigation is assured, sow seeds in the field in rows at a gap of 8 inch between the
rows. Required seed rate is 11 to 12 kg per Bigha.
• Fruit crops such as banana, pineapple etc. should be preferably planted within April in Assam.
Continued rain after planting helps in establishment of saplings.
• Under prevailing weather condition there is possibility of attack of sucking pest in ladies finger in New
Alluvial zone of West Bengal. Apply Nuvan (0.75 ml / litre) or Monosil (1.5 ml / litre) at an interval of
15 days.
• Prevailing weather conditions are congenial for the incidence of sucking pests (white fly) which transmit
Yellow Mosaic Virus (YMV) in summer green gram. To control the vector (white fly) spray
Monocrotophos @ 1.25 ml or Dimethoate @ 2 ml per litre of water.
• Prevailing weather conditions are congenial for the incidence and spread of murda disease, powdery mildew
and die back disease in chilli in Belgaum and Haveri regions. Hence to manage the severity of murda
disease, spray imidachloprid (17.8 SL) @ 0.30 ml / liter plus fenzaquin (10 EC) @ 2 ml / litre or Dicofal @
2.5 ml / litre of water. To control powdery mildew spray carbendizim (80% WS) @ 1 g / litre or
hexacenazole 1 ml / litre. Die back disease may be managed by spraying with hexacenazole @ 1 ml / litre.
Spray the chemicals on a non rainy day.
• Provide deep summer ploughing in fields after harvesting of rabi crops to suppress the weeds, insect-
pest & diseases and also to increase the water holding capacity of field.
• To protect from high temperature in western parts of the country, keep animals under shade during noon
hours and provide clean drinking water 6 times during day and once during night. Avoid transportation
of poultry birds during noon time. Put curtains on north-west side of poultry house and sprinkle water on
curtains during noon time.
• Due to increase in day temperature in Southern parts of India from 340 to 35
0C in poultry farm there is a
probability of drop in feed intake, egg weight drops and shell quality deteriorates. So farmers are
advised to maintain optimum temperature between 18° to 26° C in poultry shed for better production.

SOUTH INDIA [TN, AP, KERALA, KARNATAKA, LAKSHADWEEP, ANDAMAN & NICOBAR ISLANDS]
• Realised Rainfall: Many districts of Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh received rainfall
during last week.
• Rainfall Forecast: Either dry or mainly dry condition will prevail or isolated rain will occur in all the days
in all the States of the region except in Coastal Karnataka, Kerala, Lakshadweep and Andaman & Nicobar
Islands where rainfall is likely to occur at a few places during next three days.
• Major Crops:
• Pigeon pea and sunflower (maturity / harvesting), Vegetables (Flowering / fruiting / harvesting) in
Karnataka.
• Rice (grain maturity / harvesting), Vegetables (flowering / fruiting / harvesting) and plantation crops
(coconut, arecanut, pepper and cashew) in Kerala.
• Rice (grain development), pulses (pod maturity), cotton (picking) in Tamil Nadu.
 Advisories:
• As number of districts in Kerala received good amount of rainfall during last week and scattered rainfall
is expected for next three days, farmers can skip irrigation during this week. Keep the copra and
arecanut for drying only during the clear sky condition in Kannur, Mallapuram, Kozhikode, Kasaragod
(Northern Zone). In Thrissur (Central Zone), mulch the coconut basin using husks to reduce evapo
transpiration. Coir pith @ 25 kg / palm is an ideal mulching material to preserve moisture. In Vellayani
(southern Zone) harvest of third crop may be completed as immediately as possible since chances of
light showers are there. Farmers are advised to get ready for sowing of first crop. But sowing should be
done only after the receipt of one or two good showers. This is the most ideal time for application of
fertilisers and manures for banana and coconut grown under rain fed conditions.
As there was sufficient rainfall during last two weeks in most of the districts of Kerala and Karnataka,
postpone irrigation to the standing crops. As there was light rainfall during last week and dry weather /
no significant rainfall is likely for the next five days, farmers in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu are
advised to apply need based irrigation to standing rabi crops and horticultural / plantation crops.
High temperature conditions prevailed over Telangana region in Andhra Pradesh. Farmers are advised to
apply light and frequent irrigation to overcome heat injury on standing crops.
Prevailing weather conditions are congenial for the incidence of sucking pests(white fly) which transmit
Yellow Mosaic Virus (YMV) in summer greengram. To control the vector (white fly), spray
Monocrotophos @ 1.25 ml or Dimethoate @ 2 ml per litre of water.
Farmers in Central zone of Kerala are advised to undertake mulching in the coconut basin using husks to
reduce evapotranspiration. Coir pith @ 25 kg / palm is an ideal mulching material to preserve moisture.
12
Irrigation can be continued. Protect palms from sun by wrapping stems with areca sheath or
whitewash the exposed portion.
Farmers in north eastern zone in Tamil Nadu are advised to spray 0.5% of Potassium Chloride to withstand
the moisture scarcity. Under high temperature conditions spodoptera incidence is predominant in groundnut. Spraying of
quinalpos @ 2 ml / 1itre or monocrotopos @ 1.6 ml / litre is recommended to control the pest.
Prevailing weather conditions are congenial for the incidence and spread of murda disease, powdery mildew
and die back disease in chilli in Belgaum and Haveru regions. Hence to manage the severity of murda
disease, spray imidachloprid (17.8 SL) @ 0.30 ml/liter plus fenzaquin (10 EC) @2 ml/L or Dicofal @ 2.5
ml/litre. To control powdery mildew spray carbendizim (80% WS) @ 1 g/litre or hexacenazole 1 ml/litre.
Die back disease may be managed by spraying with hexacenazole @ 1 ml / litre. Spray the chemicals on a
non rainy day.
Due to dryspell thrips are noticed again in onion in Raichur district. To control them, spray oxydemeton
methyl (1.5 ml) or dimethoate (1.7 ml) or monocrotophos (1.0 ml) in one liter of water on a non rainy day.
Farmers are advised to undertake planting of ginger in Hassan district and select disease free rhizome, dip the
rhizome in solution prepared using 2 gm Ridomil MZ + 0.5 gm. Streptocycline per liter of water and apply
trichoderma enriched compost / FYM before planting by providing proper drainage.
Due to prevalence of higher relative humidity, arecanut crop may be infested with koleroga, hence
farmers are advised to go for spraying of 1% Bordeaux mixture on a non rainy day.
In rice fallow present weather conditions are favourable for occurrence of jassids, thrips, hoppers, and
white flies. To check the prevalence of these insects use yellow trap smeared with castor oil or white
grease and spray any one of the blue labelled systemic insecticide along with sticking agent at
recommended dose on a non rainy day.
Due to increase in day temperature from 34° to 35°C in poultry farm there is a probability of drop in
feed intake, egg weight drops and shell quality detiorates. So farmers are advised to maintain optimum
temperature between 18° to 26° C in poultry shed for better production. WEST INDIA [GOA, MAHARASHTRA, GUJARAT]
• Realised Rainfall: No significant rain occurred in most of the districts of these States.
• Rainfall Forecast: Either isolated rain will occur or dry or mainly dry weather will prevail over the States
of this region.
• Major Crops: Maharashtra: Vegetables (vegetative / flowering / fruiting / harvesting) and summer rice (grain
maturity / harvesting in South Konkan and grain formation in East Vidarbha), summer groundnut (

bajra (grain formation & grain maturity / harvesting at some places).
Gujarat: Green gram (pod formation), summer groundnut (pod formation) and vegetables (vegetative /
flowering / fruiting / harvesting).
• Advisory: As dry weather is prevailing for last few weeks and also likely to prevail during next five days along
with persistent high temperature, apply irrigation to bajra, groundnut, green gram etc. in Gujarat.
As there was no significant rain during last week in most of the districts of Maharashtra and either
isolated rain will occur or dry or mainly dry weather will prevail during next five days, apply
protective irrigation to the standing crops.
Due to increase in evaporation, farmers are advised to apply irrigation in groundnut at 8-10 days
interval in Maharashtra.
Due to increase in air temperature farmers are advised to protect banana bunch with plastic sheet in
Gujarat.
As the temperature is high in Gujarat, fruit crop orchards should be kept weed free and covered with
suitable mulch for conservation of available soil moisture.
13
Due to prevailing high temperature, cover papaya fruits using gunny bags in Gujarat. Irrigate
pomegranate, sapota, lemon and papaya orchards to protect the crops from heat stress.
To protect newly planted grafts of coconut and areca nut in Maharashtra from bright sunlight shades
may be prepared from south side and mulching may be done with grass or paddy straws.
Due to increase in temperature, premature fruit dropping may occur in mango in Maharashtra, to
reduce the same, provide irrigation to mango @ 150 to 200 litres / plant at fortnightly interval and
spray 2% urea (20 g / litre water). Due to increase in temperatures summer chilli is likely to be infested by thrips & mites in Dhule &
Nandurbar districts of Maharashtra, spray Methyl dimeton 25 EC @ 15 ml or Dimethoate 30 EC@16 ml + Sulphur 80 % @ 20 g in 10 liters water.
Due to increase in temperature bhindi crop is likely to be infested by sap sucking pest in Maharashtra, spray Imedacloprid @ 4 ml or Dimethoate @ 4 g or Dimeton @ 10 ml per 10 liters of water.
Taking the advantage of persisting dry weather condition, undertake harvesting of already matured
summer rice & groundnut in South Konkan and start harvesting of already matured summer bajra in
Madhya Maharashtra.

• Wheat (maturity / harvesting), summer urd, mung and sunflower (early vegetative), sugarcane (cane
development) and vegetable crops (vegetative / flowering / fruiting) in Madhya Pradesh.
• Boro rice (grain formation), sesame (vegetative / flowering / pod formation) in Chhattisgarh.
• Advisory: In view of prevailing dry weather condition during last few weeks and also during next five days along
with persisting high temperature over Madhya Pradesh, farmers are advised to apply light and frequent
irrigation to the standing crops to meet the excess evaporative demands. Farmers are advised to irrigate
their vegetable crops by drip or sprinkler system.
Evaporations rates are presently higher due to higher temperature and it is being recorded around 13-16
mm/day in Chhattishgarh, which has increased the water requirements of summer crops like summer
rice, vegetables, sunflower, green gram, groundnut etc. Hence, farmers are advised to apply light and
frequent irrigation to these crops.

advised to complete the sowing as early as possible with assured irrigation facilities.
Presently the maximum temperature remained 2-30C above normal and due to hot and dry winds banana
and papaya fruits are damaged because of sun scorching. Hence, the farmers in Chhattishgarh are
advised to cover the fruits by using leaves or Jute bags to protect the fruits from sun scorching.
Farmers are advised to undertake deep plouging after harvesting of rabi crops if sufficient soil moisture
is there in the fields to facilitate soil solarisation effect for insect / pest control when the soil temperature
reaches around 600C in the month of May in fields where wilt, stem rot and nematode diseases are
frequently observed. It will help in effective pest / weed management for the coming kharif crops due to
soil solarisation.
Weather conditions are favourable for incidence of sucking pest in okra, moong and urd crops in
Chhattisgarh, farmers are advised to spray Imidachloroprid 17.8 SL @ 0.5 ml / litre of water.
