The Adequan/FEI North American Junior and Young Rider Championships presented by Gotham North (NAJYRC) is the premier equestrian competition in North America for junior and young riders, age 14-21. Young equestrians vie for team and individual FEI medals in the three Olympic eques-trian disciplines of jumping, dressage, eventing and the FEI World Equestrian Games disciplines of reining and endur-ance. Para-dressage will make its debut for the first time in 2015. The competition is run under rules of the FEI (Feder-ation Equestre Internationale), the international governing body for equestrian sport, and is the only FEI championship held annually on this continent.Over the course of the week, young equestrians get the opportunity to compete and gain experience competing at the international level. The NAJYRC gives a unique and unforgettable experience encouraging sportsmanship from an early age for the future starts of equestrian sport.

“Many of North America’s equestrian stars have used these Championships as a stepping stone during their early careers, but they didn’t all make it onto the podium. However, the experience they gained proved invaluable over the following years as they continued to learn about the ups and downs that are part of life of any top sports-man or sportswoman.” -HRH Princess Haya

The importance of the Championships to those within the industry is displayed each year through the hard work and dedication athletes put toward the dream of having their national flags raised in their honor. Trainers, parents and professionals support the invaluable experiences athletes will gain, and past alumni look back at the amazing memo-ries they had.

“We strongly believe that it is an important event for Junior and Young Riders, and we hope to help the event grow and continue to be a way for them to gain championship ex-perience.” -Cayce Harrison, 2002 NAJYRC Individual Gold medalist and owner of Double H Farm

“For me, the experiences that I had during my NAJYRC years really brought me to be able to compete at the inter-national level. It made me want to work and make this my profession. I would really like to have other people expe-rience that. I think it is really important to bridge the gap between the junior and young riders to competing at the senior level, and I think NAJYRC is a great program that every rider should aim for and make his/her goal.” -Georgina Bloomberg, 2002 and 2003 Gold medalist

REED KESSLER- JUMPINGQuickly becoming a household name in the sport of Jump-ing, Kessler continues to stand out as a top international competitor with a long list of notable accomplishments. At the young age of 18, she represented the U.S. Team at the London Olympics. The NAJYRC medalist has been a mem-ber of U.S. Nations Cup Teams numerous times, helping them secure top finishes. Individually, she remains in great company on the International Jumping Rankings among the best riders in the world.

BUCK DAVIDSON- EVENTINGNo stranger to the sport of Eventing, Buck has followed in his father Bruce’s footsteps as a top-level competitor. With a sixth-place finish at his Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event debut in 1998, he has gone on to be ranked as the number one rider in the United States multiple times. The NAJYRC alum traveled to the Alltech/FEI World Equestrian Games with Team U.S.A. in 2014.

KELSEY RUSSELL- ENDURANCEWith many top U.S. wins to her name, this NAJYRC Gold medalist has quickly climbed the ranks as a rider with a long, promising career. Under the training of veteran rider Valerie Kanavy, Russell secured two fifth-place finishes at the FEI Young Rider Endurance World Championships in 2011 and 2013. This is a fitting accomplishment, as these are the best American finishes at an Endurance World Championship since Kanavy claimed a Gold medal in 1998. Most recently, Russell represented Team USA at the 2014 Alltech/FEI World Equestrian Games in Normandy France.

VENUE

The North American Junior and Young Rider Champion-ships are run as a 501 (c)(3) non-profit. Providing young equestrians with the opportunity to gain invaluable interna-tional show experience while participating on a team, the competition is unlike any other. Emphasizing good horse-manship, team spirit, hard work, and sportsmanship, the Championships are recognized as one of the most valuable experiences in shaping the future of equestrian sport. 100% of donations made are used to help grow and expand the Championships, providing young equestrians an experi-ence that is not only educational, but a memorable highlight in their riding careers.

“There is no greater evidence of its success than the many Junior and Young Riders who have gone on and repre-sented their nations at Pan-American Games, World Cup Events, and the Olympic Games. However, just as crucial a success is that most of the NAJYRC participants since the mid-1970s have used their Championships experiences to become contributing citizens of their countries in all sorts of occupations, because they can’t all be Olympians. Early on in the process, when the program had only begun to take shape, one person described it as a system based on a fairly simple philosophy. ‘Give the youth the opportunity, the tools, and the supervision at the highest levels to reach lofty, but obtainable goals. Then quietly step aside and let them reach for their dreams.’” –Howard Simpson, USEF Board Member and NAJYRC loyal supporter
