INTRODUCTION

One of the requirements as graduating students of the College of Teacher

Education is the Practice Teaching. This Training exposes us to the real environment

where you take the role of a real teacher. Thus, adjusting oneself is a must to cope up

with different attitudes of your students.

Practice Teaching is the apex of all Experiential Learning Courses. It is the total

immersion of the prospective teacher in the real life of becoming a teacher. During

practice teaching, the pre-service teacher experiences the rudiments of teaching in

cyclical process of planning, actual teaching and evaluating learning. The pre- service

teacher, who maybe called an apprentice, or student teacher intern, walks the whole

process of teaching with a mentor, who is called the cooperating teacher. Here the pre-

service teacher puts into actual practice all that we were learned in the content and

theory courses, strategies or methods of teaching as well as put into test the pedagogical

content knowledge acquired in related courses prior to practice teaching.

Page 8: my on-campus narrative report

Being one of the pre-service student teacher, I felt nervous upon hearing the

name student teacher because in my mind this is a very critical stage. Being a student

teacher is the primary experience to be in the real world of teaching. A student teacher

must act like a real teacher. In this training, you are tested on how far you can be as a

teacher soon. You need to be patient and flexible as a teacher or else you will have a

heartache dealing with naughty students.

NARRATION AND EXPERIENCES

PRE- ORIENTATION

November 8, 2010

We had our pre- orientation at the university covered court with Prof. Martinez,

the OJT coordinator of elementary education students and the OJT coordinator of the

secondary education students, Prof. Edna T. Maganding.

There were so many things discussed in the orientation. Among of the things

discussed is our role and responsibilities as a Pre-Service Teacher. They also discussed

the 6 field study courses and from it I learned that it is a very important tool before

facing into practice teaching. What is practice teaching? This was clearly discussed by

Prof. Maganding as well as the syllabus on practice teaching. We were also oriented on

the rubrics for practice teaching portfolio and journal/reflections. The prototype

certificate 1 which is the certificate for Completion of Student Teaching, and Prototype

Page 9: my on-campus narrative report

Certificate 2- Completion and Proficiency in Experiential learning courses was also

introduce to us.

We ended the day with an inspiring experience shared by Prof. Maganding.

She was an ordinary poor student before. Despite of the poverty she had experienced,

she doesn’t lose hope. Instead, she studied very hard and took scholarship

examinations. Luckily, she passed. She worked hard in her own to support for her

studies without giving headache to her parents. Now she is one of the respected

teachers in Bukidnon State University. Indeed, poverty is not a hindrance to success. If

only you will only work hard to achieve your dreams, surely you will reach it.

ORIENTATION

November 10, 2010

This was our orientation at BSU-SSL with Mrs. Improgo. Supposedly, Dr. Reyna L.

Amba is going to conduct the orientation but because of her illness Mrs. Improgo takes

turn in handling us. In the orientation, we were assigned to different Supervising

Instructors, classroom advisories, and offices. The assignment is by major, but those

majors who are many are divided into groups.

My advisory class assignment is in II-Peace together with my three other science

majors’ and two CT students. Our Supervising Instructor was Professor Nornie B.

Micayabas. We are happy knowing that she is our SI. She is an excellent teacher. I’m

happy, excited and a little bit afraid of my practice teaching. After the assignment, we

were told to report immediately to our supervising instructor. Then, our journey

begins…

FIRST DAY IN BSU-SSL

Page 10: my on-campus narrative report

November 10, 2010

When we approach our SI, we were into work immediately. I was tasked to

encode a test questionnaire in third year for their 2nd summative examinations. The test

questionnaire must be done before 3pm. So, we were cramming since we don’t have the

computer to use. Good thing that Sir Oton allows us to use the computer at LRC. At least

our worries are gone. Luckily we were able to accomplish the task given. I’m so happy

that we all did it

BSU-SSL: SECOND SUMMATIVE EXAMINATION

November 12, 2010

There were 6 of us assigned in II- Peace as our class advisory. We were

requested by our SI to be the proctor in their entire exam. It’s a tiresome work actually.

You keep on standing and roaming around so that the students would not have the

opportunity to cheat.

After the exams we are made to check their test papers and all other outputs and

projects they had. There were bundles of papers to check on and I started to feel like

quitting. Then, I realize that’s not the solution anyway. I entered this profession so why

should I complain. Instead, accept the reality that being a teacher is not that easy. So, I

should be very flexible and calm.

FIRST WEEK EXPERIENCE

Page 11: my on-campus narrative report

All the above mentioned experiences are just few of the things we did this week.

It was a week long experience I would not ever forget. We had done many things that

are all first time to us, like making grades which is a work of a real teacher, computing

grades and all others. The most important thing I’ve learned this week is decision-

making. If you make a decision, you must see to it that everybody is benefited or is fair

to all especially in giving instructions because you are dealing with rational person,

which are your students.

SECOND ORIENTATION

November 17, 2010

We had our second orientation held at the University Auditorium. There were three

speakers in this orientation, namely: Mrs. Del Rosario, Mrs. Adajar, and Mr. Oton. They

are all teachers from the Secondary School Laboratory. The first speaker, Mrs. Del

Rosario and she introduced to us the different kinds of forms and how to use it. The next

speaker was Mr. Reynaldo Oton, he explains to us the rules and regulation of the BSU-

SSL. He also reminded us our duties and responsibilities as student teachers. The last

speaker was Mrs. Adajar, the guidance and counseling teacher of the BSU-SSL. She

shares with us on how to handle different problems and how to manage our self when

trials are confronting us.

Page 12: my on-campus narrative report

I was inspired by the words left to us by Dr. Reyna L. Amba, the principal of BSU-

SSL. We ended the orientation with a great smile in our hearts and an unstolen

knowledge on the things we need to know as a future teacher soon.

PASKULO 2010

December 15, 2010

BSU-SSL celebrated Paskulo 2010 on December 15, 2010 held at the University

Gymnasium. The celebration was participated by the students, student teachers, and the

faculty and staff of BSU-SSL. There were a lot of games and contests. There were also

contests for classroom decorations. Of course, the medley contests is always present.

Part of the program is the presentation of teachers as well as the student

teachers. Every majors has prepared for there presentation except us, the science

majors. We were hesitating if we will present or not. But the end we came up to the

idea of presenting a comical skit. Without any hesitation we came up to the stage and it

was really an on-the-spot presentation. We were very happy because the audience were

amazed by our presentation. Luckily, we made it until the end. As a matter of fact,

because of amusement Ate Elsie treat us to Mang Inasal for our well done presentation.

Whenever the students would see us they keep on praising and admiring our

performance. That was a very memorable moment for us, the biological sciences majors.

AACUP PARTICIPATION

December 22-23, 2010

Page 13: my on-campus narrative report

The school is very solemn those days since its Christmas break for elementary, high

school, and college students. Yet, we are made to report to the school on these days

because of the AACUP. We are so busy cleaning up the science laboratory and preparing

many other things to be check by the accreditors. Our goal is to lift up Bukidnon State

University to level 3. In the end, it was a success. Bukidnon State University passed the

accreditation and it is now level three. We were very grateful about it. Our heart smiles

because we were a part of Bukidnon State University’s success.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH

January 15, 2010

As part of our practice teaching we are required to conduct an outreach activity.

We agreed to feed the orphans and other street childrens at Mount Moraiah Camp, Pal-

ing, Malaybalay City. We agreed to just prepare “binignit” for the children. The expense

is not really that big since there were 12 of us.

There is a team of American missionaries there, there are a number of them they

also help and teach the children. We have to serve the food at 3:00pm. So, need to

prepare it earlier. While preparing, my co-majors prepared a program for the children

for them to be entertained. They prepared games and memory verses.

After the games, the children are distributed into small groups with an American

missionary. We, the student teachers are also in one group. There were three American

Page 14: my on-campus narrative report

missionaries in our group. We chat with them for almost an hour. From our

conversation we have learned something new about their culture and their education.

At 3:00pm we serve the food to the children. They were very happy. I can see the

gladness in their eyes. I’m happy of these things I’ve done. I realize it’s a nice feeling to

help other people especially if it’s from your heart.

We brought home the joy of sharing and helping those who are I need. I’m

thankful to God that he gave me the opportunity of being with the orphans and street

children. This is another experience I would not forget for the rests of my life.
