Computer-Based Training ProjectsCalifornia Highway Patrol First-Aid Training Course Goal: to teach basic first-aid training to California policeman. Special Tasks: conducted needs analysis, supervised graphics artists as well as video and audio production, interviewed content experts, and designed and developed scripts. Deliverables: Analysis Report, Design Document, Scripts, Video Specifications, Narrations, and Computer-Based software.

Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) PACS/LDRS Training Project Course Goal: to teach HUD managers, supervisors, and executives how to implement the new, federally mandated, employee performance evaluation system. Instructional Strategy: to produce a three-course, blended learning training program that incorporated video vignettes into classroom training. Ms. Macaluso also produced and implemented a teleconference for delivery by the director of HUD. The Discovery Channel Discovery Interactive Library Course Goal: to provide secondary school systems with an interactive videodisc program for students and teachers. Instructional Strategy: built the Discovery Interactive Library with an interactive tool to be provided in a learning lab, integrated with a presentation tool for teachers that could be customized with to match the lesson plan. Deliverables: Design Document, Storyboards, Scripts, Video Specifications, Narration, and Evaluation Plan. Accomplishment: Developed a database of objectives derived from national curricula trends.

Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)Radiological Response Team Refresher Training Course Goal: to teach radiological responders teams how to effectively respond to radioactive incidents.Instructional Strategy: to create remedial computer-based training in FEMA’s Independent Study curriculum. Cumulative interactive scenarios provided practice and final assessment. Successful completion was tracked and maintained for each student. Scenario: Students were asked to locate a lost radiological source and were required to choose an appropriate radiation detection instrument, read the instrument while scanning the room, and choose the object that contained the source. Johns Hopkins University Clinical Research Educational Workshops Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center (SKCCC), Clinical Research OfficeCourse Goals: 1) to provide experienced Oncology research staff (principal investigators, research nurses, and data managers) with workshops to update their knowledge of regulatory guidelines and best practices. 2) to provide a viable opportunity for experienced research staff to obtain continuing education credits. University of Maryland, University College The Nuclear Science Engineering Project (NSEP)Background: After the Three Mile Island incident in Pennsylvania, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) determined that their operators needed thorough understanding of nuclear engineering in order avoid a nuclear disaster in the future. The NRC partnered with Control Data Corporation and the University of Maryland to create one of the first computer-based training curricula.Curriculum Goal: to provide nuclear power plant operators with an advanced nuclear engineering degree. Some Courses in the Curriculum: to provide nuclear power plant operators with an advanced nuclear engineering degree. Instructional Strategy: to designed and developed a nine-course curriculum using the PLATO authoring system. Ms. Macaluso supervised programmers and graphic artists. Deliverables: Design Document, Storyboards, Computer-Based Training Software. Accomplishments: 1) Resolved issues with difficult subject matter expert. 2) This was among the first computer-based distance-delivery curriculums. 3) Student mastery was tracked and evaluated with an elaborate computer-managed evaluation routine, which PLATO supported. 4) Designed a generic subroutine to guide the student through each step of complex thermodynamic calculations.
