What’s more, the tables are being replaced with smart, two-tiered benches. Another exciting development within the music department is the hardware upgrades. The current keyboards are being replaced by MIDI controller keyboards which will have all of the sounds coming through a fleet of sixteen iMacs. The subject is changing quite a bit too. While at the moment it is based on playing and studying music, it is changing to focus a bit more on creating and producing music. The students will be taught how to use the Logic Pro 9 studio software, which is used by professionals in the music business. All of these changes will take place over the Easter break so when you return you may not recognise the room, or the subject. What’s Next? A competition is to be launched in which the students in year seven and eight will write and produce a pop song with what I have been told is a very worthwhile prize for the winner. Mr Burrows is also planning to run a series of musical events, including an exciting summer extravaganza – details to be revealed at a later date!! Jacob Wilding (Year 10 – Healing Online Reporter)

Around 150 Year 6s attended Healing School for a fun-filled Musical Playday. Tuning in to the changes in Music!

Big things are happening in the music department! I spoke to Mr Burrows who is behind all of the changes. First of all, the appearance of the room is different and you are greeted by a large set of steel pans as you enter the room.

Do not however, let that put you off - I was shown a sample project

completed by a nine year old after being shown how to use it for only thirty minutes!

Glee Club At the start of the new school year, Mr Burrows, Mr Hirst and Mrs Baxter decided to start Healing School’s ‘Glee Club’. Healing School’s Glee Club now comprises of fifteen pupils from all year groups across the school. The Glee Club’s first performance was at the Christmas concert where they performed an uplifting rendition of ‘Rocking around the Christmas Tree’ complete with Christmas hats, tinsel and dancing. As the New Year started the Glee Club decided it was time to perform in assembly in front of year 7 and 8 pupils. The heart-warming voices were enjoyed by all. The songs the Glee Club have been working on include ‘Consider Yourself’ from the musical Oliver, ‘Titanium’ by David Guetta and ‘Smooth Criminal’ by

Chasing Cars Competition

All of key stage 3 have been working extremely hard developing their own interpretation of Snow Patrols “Chasing Cars”. Each pop group have produced backing tracks using guitars and keyboards along with vocal and harmony parts. All the performances will be recorded in the final week of term and a crack team of teachers will listen to ALL the pieces and pick out the “Top Ten Healing School Chasing Cars Live”. The pressure is on, who will win year 7 or year 8? Find out very soon……..

These newly formed “pop” groups will then take on the challenge of writing their own songs, producing and recording them, designing a band logo along with all the artwork and promotional posters. Their music will be recorded on, the soon to be installed, iMacs using Pro Logic or Garage Band recording software. This again will take the form of a competition with another top ten chart and the coveted Number 1 Healing Pop Song 2012-13. This will be bigger than the Brit Awards, well, nearly!!
