Workshop

BottLe CAp CreAtions saturday, november 12 / 10 am – 3 pm

Create beautiful decorations from bottle caps! This fun workshop teaches students to preserve what they love and enjoy in a little resin cap. Anything, from acorns, leaves, photos, beads, buttons and thread can be contained in a bottle cap as a magnet or charm. Rachel Kaiser t$45 / $40 MuseuM MeMbers

Beginning Book Binding saturday, december 3 / 10 am – 4 pm

MiniAture etChingsaturday & sunday, december 10 & 11 / 10 am – 4 pm

Held at Oxbow Press, create your own edition of small etchings perfect for holiday giving. Etching is a printmaking technique in which an image, drawn with metal tools, is incised into a metal plate. introduCtion to tApestry weAving saturday, december 3 / 10 am – 4 pm

Held at Toni Lowden’s Reno studio, learn the basics of tapestry warping and weaving on a small portable loom. Complete a basic tapestry sampler with a frame loom while learning warp and weft, spacing, color and grist. A $75 materials fee is due to instructor at the beginning of class for warp and weft materials and a small portable loom to take home. For experienced students or those who have taken Introduction to Tapestry Weaving, complete an intermediate tapestry sampler at the Reno studio of Toni Lowden. This workshop will cover how to create a circular shape, setting in diagonal shapes, hatching, rya, shading, varying the texture and thickness of weft yarns, the spacing of warps and incorporating a cartoon or small design. Work on portrait drawing using the idea of “caged volume”, and then apply the principles to the full figure. Expand your knowledge with the addition of composition, color theory and brushwork starting with the portrait, then proceeding to the full figure. AirBrushMondays, november 7 – december 12 / 5:30 – 8 pm

Learn intensive airbrush techniques through step-by-step demonstrations to create stylized or realistic artwork to enhance car exteriors, signs and much more. Explore equipment, materials, paints, freehand application, color gradation and rendering texture. Former students have the option to sign up for the last 4 weeks in order to learn advanced techniques. A compressor, airbrushes and paints will be supplied at no cost for use in the classroom. Inspired by the Sierra Nevada: An Adaptation exhibition, kids will make their own illustrated maps and learn how to draw the wildlife and plants of the region, such as bears, fish, marmots, golden eagles, deer, wild horses and more! registrAtion Pre-registration is required. Registrations are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis until maximum class size is reached. Classes are limited in size. Early registration is recommended.

CAnCeLLAtion poLiCy Students needing to withdraw from a class after registering may receive a tuition refund less a $5 administrative fee if the Museum is notified five business days before the first session of class. No refunds thereafter.

sChoLArships Scholarships are available to students of all ages for e. l. Cord Museum School classes due to a generous grant from the e. l. Cord Foundation. If you wish to apply for a scholarship, please download a scholarship form (also available in Spanish) at nevadaart.org/school or call 775.329.3333 x260.

CLAss LoCAtion Most classes are held at the e. l. Cord Museum School, located at the Nevada Museum of Art, Donald W. Reynolds Center for the Visual Arts, e. l. Wiegand Gallery at 160 West Liberty Street in downtown Reno. Students should enter the School through the outdoor gate to the left of the doors marked “e. l. Cord Museum School and employee and security entrance.” These doors are located to the south end of the building and can be seen from the parking lot. Driving directions for classes hosted off-site will be made available to students at the time of registration.
