Museum of Science and Industry Field Trip

Permission Slip and Information

Dear Parents and Guardians:

The Fourth Grade Team is excited to announce a very exciting and engaging trip to the Museum of

Science and Industry. Students will be given an opportunity to participate with hands on activities and

experience firsthand accounts of science in action while reinforcing the national content standards in

science. Students will learn about energy, the scientific method, weather, land formations,

advancement in technology, space, and many more topics that will spark an interest in everyone.

In addition to the trip providing students with the chance to explore hands-on science, the trip ends the

afternoon with a fun-filled experience at Portillo’s. Students will leave the school around 8:35am on

Wednesday, February, 21st and will arrive at the Museum of Science of Industry in downtown Chicago

where they will explore exhibits in small groups from 9:30 to 2:30pm. Students will eat their disposable

bagged lunch together at 11:00am. When all the groups have attended their tours and visited their

exhibits we will leave and go to Portillo’s on 134 E. Boughton Road to enjoy each other’s company and

friendship. We will arrive at Portillo’s around 3:45. Parents are welcome to attend and have fun along

with their child, their friends, and their teachers! Parents can pick up their child from Portillo’s no later

than 4:35. Students that are not picked up by their parents by 4:35 will be transported back to Sipley

where they can walk or get picked up no later than 5:00pm.

Cost per student: $15.00 Includes round trip transportation, museum’s general admission, and timed

entry to the Coal Mine exhibit or U-505 Submarine tour and Numbers Maze

and any souvenirs at the MSI gift shop. Please estimate around 10.00 dollars.
