Class Discussion: What is soccer and what do you know about the sport?

Soccer: Soccer is today’s most popular WORLD sport people all

across the globe take great joy in participating in this sport whether it be recreational to professional level.

The game is played with 11 players for each team on the field.

The object of the game is to get the ball in the opponents net to score. The team with the most goals wins.

Each team has a Keeper a line of defense (players that play in the back line in front of goalie.) Midfielders who are required to get back defensively as well as getting in to help with the attack. Last your forwards.

Law 1: The field Fifa rules regulate that if you are playing 11v11 than the field must be between 100-130 yards with a width between 50-100 yards

Law 2: The Ball the circumference of the ball must be no more than 28in and no less than 27in. Size 5 used for anyone 12+

Law 3: Number of Players Always 11v11 that includes the goalkeeper.

Law 4: Players equipment players must wear jersey or shirt, shorts, long socks, sin guards and cleats. appropriate footwear. Anything else must be removed

Law 5: The Referee They have full authority what they say goes. Their job is to call as far a game as they can while keeping the players safe. Watch time.

Law 6: The Assistant Referees play on the sidelines watching for fouls, off-sides and throw-ins goal kicks or corners. Help assist the center referee.

Law 7: The Duration of the Match 45 minute halves 15 min half-time

Law 8: The Start and Restart of Play this is done at the have to start game at beginning, half or after goal is scoren.

The Laws of the game?

Law 9 Ball in and out of play Ball is out of play when it has completely crossed the goal line or touch-line or if referee stops the game. The ball is in play the rest of the time.

Law 10 The method of Scoring Goal is score when the ball completely cross the goal line between the posts. Does not count if player was off-sides.

Law 11 Off-Sides The law states that if a player is in an offside position when the ball is played to him or touched by a teammate, he may not become actively involved in the play.

Law 12 Fouls and Misconduct Calls made when there is pushing, tripping or unnecessary movements that create an unequal opportunity for both sides. When there was an intent to hurt or harm.

Law 13 Free Kicks Free kicks are either direct or indirect, and the ball must be stationary when the kick is taken. The kicker must not touch the ball again until it has touched another player.

Law 14 The Penalty Kick Given when someone is fouled in the penalty area.

Law 15,16,17 Throw-ins, Goal Kicks and Corner Kicks These are all re-entry ways of getting the ball back in play.
