2. Roger Hargreaves Birth; - Name: Charles Roger Hargreaves - Born: 9th May 1935 - Location: Cleckheaton, Yorkshire, England 3. Roger Hargreaves Early Life;- Hargreaves early ambition was tobecome a cartoonist.- However, he ended up working for hisFathers laundry and dry cleaning business.- Before going on to gain employment inadvertising. 4. Roger Hargreaves Life Changing Moment; - Whilst working as the creative director at a London film, he wrote the very first Mr. Men book, Mr Tickle. - The first of the Mr. Men characters is reported to have been created when his 6 year old son asked him what a tickle looked like. 5. Mr. Tickle 6. The Mr Men Initially, he had difficulty finding a publisher,but once he did the books became an instantsuccess. Selling over 1 million copies within 3 years. Little Miss In 1981 the Little Miss series of books werelaunched, which was also animated in to atelevision series alongside the Mr. Men. Despite Hargreaves writing many otherchildrens stories, including the Timbuctooseries of books, he is best known for his 46 Mr.Men and 33 Little Miss Books. 9. Roger Hargreaves In 1988, Hargreaves died following a stroke. After his death, his son continued writing anddrawing the Mr. Men and Little Miss characterswith new stories. However, in April 2004 Hargreaves wife soldthe rights to the characters to the UKentertainment group Chorion, for 28 million. 10. How would we useRoger Hargreaves books with children? 11. They have short sentenceswhich usually match the picture opposite and this makes iteasier for a child to read on their own.Ideas for lessons: Put the story in the right order - showingbeginning, middle and end. Match the pictures to the sentences. Put the correct word in the sentence. 12. CharactersThe Mr. Men and Little Miss characters are veryrecognisable.
