Mothers Make Preachers Acts 16:1-5 (Flowers for Mother’s Day)

G. Morgan Campbell: “My dedication to the preaching of the Word was

maternal. Mother never told it to the baby or the boy, but waited. When but eight years old I preached to my little sister and to her dolls arrayed in orderly form before me. My sermons were Bible stories which I had first heard from my mother.”

Some moms want their kids to be preachers… Maybe Lois & Eunice did for Timothy?

Mothers Make Preachers

Acts 16: 1-5

Mothers Make Preachers Acts 16: 1-5

‘Timothy’ 25 times in NT. Paul noticed ‘sincere faith’ in the young disciple. They became very close, like Philippians 2:22: “…Timothy has proved himself, because as a son

with his father he has served with me in the work of the gospel.”

1 Tim 1:2 Paul writes “To Timothy, my true son in the faith…” and v. 18 “Timothy, my son…”

Text tells us 1. The blessing of a Godly mother.

Mothers Make Preachers Acts 16: 1-5

2. The blessing of Christian society. 3. The blessing of sound instruction. 4. Blessings to Timothy and to family and

community. Many devout mothers in OT and NT. Mother’s prayers help their children. Mom’s influence - preparation for future service. Title from Campbell quote, not only good

outcome from Godly mothers.
