About Mote Marine Laboratory

Founded in 1955, Mote Marine

Laboratory is an independent nonprofit

marine research organization based in

Sarasota, Fla., with labs in Summerland

Key, Key West, Boca Grande, and

Charlotte Harbor. Mote’s scientific

research focuses on sharks, sea turtles

and marine mammals, coral reefs, the

study of toxins and their effect on human

health, coastal ecology and fisheries.

CORAL REEFS ABSORB AN ESTIMATED +92%

OF THE WAVE ENERGY FROM STORMS

WE’VE LOST MORE THAN 90% OF OUR CORAL REEF COVERAGE IN THE CARIBBEAN OVER THE LAST 40 YEARS.
