• Nicolae Grigorescu studied at the Ecole des Beaux Arts, Paris.

• He became one of the first founders of Romanian modern painting.

• His paintings are part of Barbizon school and impressionism movements.

• Henri Focillon said “Nicolae Grigorescu is Romanian with all his heart and in all his work.”

painting• Ştefan Luchian was encouraged to

pursue a career in art by Nicolae Grigorescu.

• He studied at the Munich Fine Arts Academy and Academie Julian. Luchian’s paintings can be included in impressionism, post-impressionism and symbolism movements.

• He continued painting despite his ilness, multiple scerosis and, until 1915, had his works displayed in numerous exhibitions.

• He tied the brush to his wrist so he could continue work

• Tudor Arghezi, a famous Romanian writer, said about Luchian : “His eyes, illuminated by a deep flame, bear inside the brilliant cloth of his paintings”

• Ion Popescu Gopo was a Romanian sketcher who created numerous cartoons.

• Constantin Brâncuşi was a Romanian sculptor, one of the most influential of the 20th-century. He combined the simplicity of folk Romanian art with the Parisian refinement.

• He first studied in Bucharest, then in Munich, then at the Ecole des Beaux Artes in Paris. During his staying in Paris, he joined for a while Rodin’s workshop.

• Some of Brâncuşi’s important work : “Măiastra” bird series, The kiss, Sleeping muse, La sagesse de la Terre, Princess X, Bird in space.

• Table of silence, Endless column and The gate of the kiss commemorate the courage and sacrifice of Romanians in the First World War.

• He was saying: "Work like a slave; command like a king; create like a god."
