Chicago – MattoonPassed at age 77, died peacefully on October 28 . Mr. was born in 1934 in Barrington,Illinois to , and attended Barrington High School. Mr.graduated magna cum laude from Amherst College, Massachusetts in 1956 with a bachelor's degreein religion, and attended Michigan Law School, graduating in 1959. While at Michigan Mr.
was elected to the Barristers Society and the Order of the Coif. He also served asAssociate Editor of the Law Review. While still in law school, married his high school sweetheart,
. Upon graduation, Mr. joined the law offices of Sidley and Austin in Chicago and in particularworked on the merger of the Great Northern and Union Pacific Railroads. Mr. left Sidley and Austin in1965, joining the law department of , a printing and communications company based inChicago. By then the family had settled in Downers Grove, where they raised two daughters, Cathy and Kari. Mr.
was very active in local community affairs and in 1964, was elected president of the Jaycees andappointed to the Zoning Board of Appeals. He was also elected to the elementary board of education, serving as itspresident in later years. Mr. became chief counsel for R. R. Donnelley in 1969 at the age of 34. In 1975
moved from law department to operations, where he was assigned to oversee aprinting plant in Mattoon, Illinois. After a short year in Mattoon, the family returned to Downers Grove when Mr.
was promoted to head the Book Group.. In 1981 Mr. was elected the eighth president of R.R. Donnelley, and in 1983 became only the second person outside of the family to serve as Chairman ofthe Board. During his chairmanship, also served on the boards of directors of Walgreens Company,Square "D" Corporation, USG Corporation, and later William Blair and Company. He was also a Trustee of theNewberry Library and Northwestern University. Mr. retired from in 1989. Throughouthis career, remained committed to a personal philosophy reflecting a commitment to hard work andethical behavior. Upon retirement, and spent much of their time in the Sarasota, Florida area where theyenjoyed entertaining friends and spending time with family. In particular, enjoyed numerous visits from hisgrandchildren, with whom he had a special bond. Both and were very involved in supporting their churchand in helping in many of the church's humanitarian efforts. Hobbies including getting his pilot's license, golfing,visiting the country's National Parks and watching sports. Like so many others, was a lifelong Cubs fan whowas still waiting for that ultimate victory , married to for 55 years, is survived by daughters
and brothers and , cousin, sister- and brother-in-laws and , grandchildren
and , and several nieces and nephews.

My child bride, and I celebrated our 50th weddinganniversary with a trip around the world with Delta andpartners. We had a wonderful time. If we make it to our60th maybe we could go the other way around. I've beenthe administrator of the Olmsted Linear Park Allliance forthe last 8 years. Go to our website and see what we do( ). If you click on the box with thetrees at the bottom of the home page, you can hear me tellyou all about it. I still spend at least 40 hours a weekworking, but at least two thirds of it is outside. Since I getsuch a wonderful pension from along with all theyoung folks that are contributing to Social Security, I don'tworry about being fired, and it sure beats corporate politics.Thanks for putting the newsletter together. It's wonderful,and has to be a labor of love. I'm looking forward to theFlorida reunion in February. and I will bedriving down from Atlanta.

He is now one of the top spinesurgeons in the world. He has been in St. Louis Missourisince1986.

Then wastransferred to Lancaster, PA after purchased the Rudisill Printing Co andlater to Crawfordsville where he retired in 1986.

Corporate/Chicago/RenoHello to all from Sparks, NV. The ski resorts near here (Tahoe and California) are suffering from lack of snowthis winter. I know in the Eastern part of the USA, there have been the usual snowstorms and the associated
problems from them but it has been in the high 60's here for the last couple ofweeks. By the time you read this I may be shoveling out from feet of snow. We hada fabulous trip in November on a large cruise ship visiting ports in Portugal, Spainand Italy over the course of 18 days. The sights of particular interest were those ofruins at Pompeii and Rome along with the architecture of Barcelona, Seville,Florence and Pisa. The weather there was quite nice with virtually no rain andwarmer temperatures than normal for November. The ship was huge (the secondlargest afloat) and had everything you could imagine in the way of pools, sportsdecks, entertainment and of course all the food you could stuff down! I had lostweight before the trip but managed to regain some along the way. We also spentthree days in London after the cruise and saw so many of the buildings andceremonies that we see on TV all the time. Once again I thank those whose hardwork results in the great publication that the newsletter is.

Sam Brown, the Club's President, opened the meeting by thanking all the retirees for coming. We were glad towelcome to our luncheon and hope he will join us again.

The Treasurer's report is as follows for October: Beginning balance $2780.54; receipts $400.80; expenses -luncheon $404.20 and supplies 53.98; with final balance $2723.16. (While is receiving treatmentsfor her illness, please send your dues and luncheon checks to Snyder. I have changed the return slip withmy address on it. Swinger will be helping out with the money on luncheon day and writing the checks.)
I contacted today and she said that she was feeling better. She contacted the flu last week and washospitalized for a couple days. She is going to have more tests next month to try and determine what her illnessis. She would love to hear from you.and her phone number is at the top of the Officers's listing.
We have again donated $500.00 to the RRD Angel Tree. 150 persons will receive gift certificates from Aldi's and135 children will also get mittens and hats.

I'm sad to announce the passing on October 31, 2011. He worked for RRD 35 years and wascurrently a bindery line operator. Also, Colleen J. Ridenour died on November 13th, 2011 and she also hadworked for RRD 35 years. Our thoughts and prayers go out to their many friends and families.
