BMW i3BMW i3 with Range ExtenderIntroduction (for BMW i3withRange Extender only)

The 2014 BMW i3 with Range Extender iscertified to California’s stringent Super Ultra LowEmission Vehicle (SULEV) standards and alsoqualifies as a Type II Zero Emission Vehicle withRange Extender (Type IIx ZEV) under theCalifornia Air Resources Board Zero EmissionVehicle program. In addition to very low tailpipeand zero-evaporative emissions, this certificationincludes a unique Partial Zero Emission Vehicle(PZEV) warranty when the vehicle is registered inCalifornia and certain other states, as indicated inthe PZEV section beginning on page 24. PZEVmodels registered in Delaware, Oregon,Pennsylvania andWashington are covered by theCalifornia Emission Warranty beginning onpage 25.

The emission certification standard can beverified on the Vehicle Emission ControlInformation label located on the undersidesurface of the tailgate. A representative label isshown below; the Type IIx ZEV certification isstated after the word “California.”

BMWUltimate Service™

BMWUltimate Service leads the industry inproviding owners with incredible value and peaceof mind. This service includes:� The BMWMaintenance Program: No cost

factory-recommended maintenance for4 years/50,000 miles from the originalin-service date, whichever comes first.

� BMWRoadside Assistance: No-cost 24/7on-the-road assistance for 4 years/unlimitedmiles from the original in-service date. Alsoincludes trip-interruption benefits as well astrip routing services.

� NewVehicle LimitedWarranty: Limitedcoverage for defects in materials andworkmanship for 4 years/50,000 miles fromthe original in-service date, whichever comesfirst. Repairs will only be made at authorizedBMW centers using Original BMW Parts.

The BMWMaintenance Program

The BMWMaintenance Program is a benefitdesigned to help reduce the cost of ownership.This program has been devised with thefollowing objectives: to maximize vehicle safety,reliability, and resale value by minimizingbreakdowns resulting from wear, and minimizingcost and inconvenience by computingmaintenance intervals based upon the specificmanner in which each individual vehicle is driven.

A 2014 BMW i3 vehicle purchased from anauthorized BMW center in the United States(including Puerto Rico) is covered by the BMWMaintenance Program for 48 months or50,000 miles, whichever occurs first. Coveragebegins on the date of first retail sale or the datethe vehicle is first placed into service as a salesdemonstrator, Aftersales Mobility Program (AMP)Vehicle or BMWGroup company vehicle,whichever is earlier.

Any authorized BMW center in the United States(including Puerto Rico) will perform thescheduled and/or additional maintenanceservices on your vehicle at no expense to you solong as your vehicle qualifies for coverage underthe BMWMaintenance Program.

Coverage

The BMWMaintenance Program covers allfactory recommended maintenance, asdetermined by the Condition Based Service(CBS) system. Additional specific items thatneed replacement due to normal wear and tear,and that are not covered by the original NewVehicle Limited Warranty - such as brake pads,brake rotors, and wiper blade inserts - areincluded, provided wear and tear exceeds BMWwear limits. Any applicable adjustments requireddue to normal operating conditions are alsoincluded. See pages 5-6 of this Booklet foradditional information.

Exclusions from coverage include the following:� Items reimbursable under your New Vehicle

Limited Warranty� Windshield washer additive (except when in

conjunction with scheduled maintenance)� Tires, wheel alignment, tire balance and

rotation� Parking brake shoes/linings� Reset Tire Pressure Monitor� Wear and tear of soft trim items, such as:

seats, carpets, moldings, headliner, doorpanels and all chrome trim

� Damage, including consequential, whichresults from negligence, improper operation ofthe vehicle, wear and tear or deterioration dueto driving habits or conditions, improper repair,environmental influences, flood, accident orfire damage, road salt corrosion, alteration orinstallation of non-genuine BMW accessories

� Altered or unreadable Vehicle IdentificationNumber (VIN) or odometer irregularities orvehicles where the true mileage cannot bedetermined

� Maintenance or repair after the vehicle isdeemed a total loss

� Maintenance or repairs performed by otherthan an authorized BMW center within theUnited States (including Puerto Rico)

� Vehicles used in competitive events

Maintenance UpgradeOption

Please contact your authorized BMW center forinformation regarding the purchase of optionalMaintenance Program Upgrades. Eligibility andcoverage exclusions may apply.

Intervals

Time intervals should be followed using themaintenance intervals as indicated by the BMWCondition Based Service.

Maintenance intervals on motor vehicles haveconventionally been specified based uponaccumulated mileage. However, drivingconditions have a major influence on routinemaintenance requirements; distance traveled isonly one of the significant factors.

The advanced technologies at BMW have led tothe development of the unique BMWConditionBased Service (CBS) system which computesthe actual optimummaintenance requirementsbased not only upon the accumulated mileage,but taking into account important factors such ashigh or low engine speeds, and short or long tripdriving.

Condition Based Service (CBS)

CBS is a further development of the ServiceInterval Indicator System.

The remaining times for selected maintenancetasks as well as any legally prescribed dates aredisplayed to you individually:� Engine oil (BMW i3 with Range Extender

only*)� Brake fluid� Brake service, front*� Brake service, rear*� Vehicle check� Required State Inspection(s)

*As of 7/14 production.

CBS thus determines the current and futuremaintenance requirements. This data can also beread from the vehicle key by your BMWServiceAdvisor and used to propose the optimum scopeof maintenance.

BMW recommends that you have maintenanceand repair work performed by your authorizedBMW center.

Disconnecting the battery during periods oflong-term storage will interrupt the

calculation of time-based services. BMWrecommends that you have all items requiringtime-based maintenance, such as brake fluid andmicrofilter, brought up to date by your authorizedBMW center.

The date when your next service is due brieflyappears when you switch on the ignition.

For certain maintenance operations, you canview the respective distance remaining or duedate individually in the Control Display (seebelow).

The current Status of Service items determinedby the CBS are shown in the Control Display,located in the center of the instrument panel.

You can also view additional information on theservice and maintenance requirements.

1. Open the start menu.

2. Press the controller to open the i-menu.

3. Select “Vehicle info” and press the controller.

4. Select “Vehicle status” and press thecontroller.

5. If necessary, move the highlight marker. Turnthe controller until “Service required” isselected and press the controller.

A list of selected maintenance operations and, ifapplicable, inspections required by law isdisplayed.

You can request more detailed information onevery entry.

Select the entry and press the controller.

The current service status is automatically savedin the vehicle’s key. The Service Advisor at yourauthorized BMW center has a device called a keyreader. When your Service Advisor inserts yourkey into the key reader, all pertinent vehicle andservicing data will be available, and a customizedmaintenance checklist is printed out based onthe specific operations called for by theCondition Based Service.

Special Note—MaintenanceIntervals

The maintenance requirements for your vehicleare determined dynamically by the ConditionBased Service (CBS) system. The maintenanceitems stated herein reflect the latest informationavailable at the time of the printing of thisBooklet, and are subject to change.

The completion of certain subsequentmaintenance items or services, as required toproperly maintain your vehicle, will be specifiedat intervals computed by the BMWConditionBased Service system as follows:

The Brake Fluid Service must be performedwhen required as indicated by the following asapplicable:� The specified CBS service counter interval� The time interval (the first occurrence based

on the vehicle’s production date)� The stated mileage for a “non-connected”

maintenance service

Refer to pages 5 - 6 for additional information.

For your convenience, you may also wish to haveyour authorized BMW center perform anynecessary operations to fulfill any stateinspection requirements in your area, concurrentwith the maintenance services specified aboveduring other repairs. Should you requestmorefrequentmaintenance service, the cost ofthese services will not be covered by theMaintenance Program.

BMW has applied the most moderntechnological advances not only to the designand production of your vehicle, but also tocomputing of the optimummaintenance intervalfor your type of operations and driving style. Yourauthorized BMW center has made a substantialinvestment in unique BMW special service toolsto enable BMW factory trained servicetechnicians to perform quality repairs on yourBMW in minimal time, to help maximize yoursatisfaction with your BMW, its longevity, andresale value.

BMW i3with Range Extender

The small gasoline-powered internal-combustion engine which serves as a generatorto the high-voltage (HV) battery does not propelthe vehicle directly. This range-extending engineis thereby not subjected to the typical speedranges and loads as an engine which does propelan automobile. The two spark plugs and theintake air filter are rated for extended life.

BMW recommends the use of BMW fullysynthetic oil, viscosity range 5W-30 of thelong-life rating LL01 (API rating SL). If this is notavailable, be sure to use another synthetic oil thatmeets the same viscosity range and long-liferating.

The oil level can be checked with a dipstick,accessed from the cargo compartment floor. Ifthe oil level is at or beneath the lower mark on thedipstick, have your authorized BMW center fill theengine oil. There is no oil filler cap which can beaccessed by the driver.

The Range Extender engine’s oil must bechanged every 12 months.

QualityCertification I

For a detailed list of items inspected, refer to theQuality Certification I form provided to the Ownerat time of delivery. A copy of the form is on file atthe selling authorized BMW center.

Maintenance Service Summary

The Condition Based Service (CBS) system willdetermine the requirement for performing themaintenance services described in this section,ending on page 6 (excluding items noted as “notshown in CBS”). These services may be requiredeither individually or in conjunction with othermaintenance services.

Maintenance services are performed as outlinedin this section, based on intervals of either time,mileage or after performing a specified numberof previous services. These intervals correspondto the latest information available when thisBooklet was printed. Maintenance intervals aresubject to change with newer vehicles or mayalso apply retroactively. Your authorized BMWcenter will be able to advise and performmaintenance services as required by the mostrecent information that applies to your vehicle.

Standard operations

Maintenance work:� Verify Check Control messages.� Check indicator and warning lights.� Reset CBS display.

� Inspect tires, adjust tire pressures and resetTire Pressure Monitor.

� Check parking brake functionality while thevehicle is being driven into the workshop.

� Check thickness of all brake pads usingspecial tool.

HV battery:� Check and record the customer’s charge

setting in the central display.� Charge the HV battery.

Tires:� Check and adjust inflation pressure if needed:

Refer to the door edge label or the “Wheel andTire” section in the Owner’s Manual.

� Check tire size: Refer to the door edge label orthe “Wheel and Tire” section in the Owner’sManual.

Test Drive:� Apply service brakes as needed to clean any

surface corrosion off the brake discs.

Maintenance work:� Replace ventilation microfilter every 2 years

based on the vehicle production date, or inconnection with scheduled brake fluid change.

Vehicle check

Maintenance work:� Check operation of horn, headlight flasher and

hazard warning flashers.� Check instrument and control lighting and

High-Voltage Lithium-Ion BatteryCare and Repairs

The BMW i3 and BMW i3 with Range Extenderare powered by a high-voltage lithium-ion batteryenclosed in a self-contained system. Opening orremoving the self-contained system creates agenuine risk of severe damage to the high-voltage lithium-ion battery as well as personalinjury, including fatal electrocution.

The high-voltage lithium-ion battery requires nomaintenance except for keeping the vehicle’shigh-voltage lithium-ion battery charged toproper specifications; refer to the Owner’sManual.

For the entire duration of the high-voltagelithium-ion battery Limited Warranty and thehigh-voltage lithium-ion battery CapacityCoverage, repairs performed according to limitedwarranties and capacity coverage are providedwithout charge. The vehicle should be taken toan authorized BMW center to have these repairsperformed by specially trained personnel underthe terms of the high-voltage lithium-ion batteryLimited Warranty and the high-voltage lithium-ion battery Capacity Coverage.

Corrosion Protection

Extensive corrosion protection measuresimplemented by BMW nowmake it possible tooffer a 12-year unlimited mileage anti-corrosionwarranty against rust perforation on your vehicleprovided that the vehicle is properly maintained.Information on proper maintenance is available inthis Booklet and your vehicle’s Owner’s Manual.

Body parts are designed to provide optimumcorrosion protection.

During manufacture, metal exterior body partsreceive an additional corrosion protection coat.

Corrosion protection materials tested over manyyears are applied to the surfaces of cavities andto the entire underside of the vehicle during andafter assembly.

Calling ForAssistance

The toll-free BMWRoadside Assistance number(1 800 497-9940) is answered by a BMWRoadside Assistance service representative. Inorder for you to receive quick and reliableservices, it is essential that you provide detailedand accurate information to the servicerepresentative.

Be prepared to give:� Your name.� Your complete Vehicle Identification Number

(found on your vehicle registration, or on thebottom driver’s side of your windshield).

� Model description of your vehicle.� License plate number of your vehicle.� Vehicle location (including nearby crossroads/

intersections, highway mile markers, streetnumbers, landmarks, etc.)

� Location you are calling from (including atelephone number where you can be reached).If you are calling from a public phone, waitthere for the return call. Do not leave thislocation without informing the RoadsideAssistance service representative.

� A description of your vehicle’s problem.Specific and accurate information will enablethe Roadside Assistance servicerepresentative to provide the proper help.

EmergencyValet Service. Should there be aneed beyond BMWRoadside Assistance,Emergency Valet service will provide a personalassistant who will help in every way to get you toyour final destination. Emergency Valet servicewill help you locate a rental car or taxi agency,hotel or even help procure airline reservations. Inthe event of an emergency, this service will assistyou in getting information out to the proper party,whether it is business or personal. Lock-Out

Your BMW is equipped with an advanced entrysystem, which cannot be bypassed by traditionallocksmith methods without significant damage toyour vehicle. However, in the event that you findyourself locked out, a simple telephone call toRoadside Assistance will help you get back onthe road. A representative will help you findtransportation or arrange towing service to thenearest authorized BMW center. Related towingcosts will be compensated up to $100.00 perincident. You, or the person driving your vehicle,are responsible for any expenses related toreplacement keys.

Towing Service

In the event of a mechanical breakdown normallycovered under the New Vehicle Limited Warranty,your vehicle will be transported (at no cost) to thenearest authorized BMW center. Your vehicle isalso covered in the event of an accident orcollision.

If a breakdown occurs after normal businesshours, your vehicle will be transported to a securelocation and transported to the nearestauthorized BMW center on the next businessday.

If you request that the vehicle be taken to alocation other than the nearest authorized BMWcenter, any additional expense will be yourresponsibility.

However, you may request (at no cost) to betaken to a different authorized BMW center aslong as it is within 50 additional miles of the“nearest” authorized BMW center.

Towing requests for vehicles disabled because ofcasualty, fire, act of God, or violation of law(federal, state or local) are provided at theexpense of the owner/driver.

If it is necessary for you to have your vehicletowed through your own arrangements, youmust contact BMWRoadside Assistance forprior authorization and instructions on claimprocedures. All claims must be submitted withinsixty (60) days of the disablement or occurrence,accompanied by the original receipts. Claimsreceived after that time period may bedishonored and are subject to the full discretionof BMWRoadside Assistance. If BMWRoadsideAssistance is not contacted for “prior”authorization, the maximum coverage for towingis $100.00.

Sign-and-Drive

Typically, if you are within the terms of yourwarranty, the services you receive under theBMWRoadside Assistance program will notrequire payment. In most cases, you will simplysign a receipt from the provider of services.

Trip Interruption Benefits

Trip interruption benefits are provided formechanical breakdowns as follows:� Breakdowns that are warranty related, and;� Must occur in excess of 100 miles from the

driver’s primary residence, and;� Repairs cannot be completed during normal

business hours on the same day ofbreakdown.

Reimbursements will be made for meals, lodging,car rentals, and alternate transportation to bringthe driver and the BMW automobile togetherafter the vehicle has been repaired by anauthorized BMW center. Original receipts mustaccompany all reimbursement requests.

Trip interruption coverage is limited to $1,000.00per incident, for a maximum of five days perincident.

Always contact BMWRoadside Assistance fortrip interruption benefits. They will assist inmaking all the necessary arrangements.

CustomerAssistance—Notification

During a specific period (for example, the earlierof 12 months or 12,000 miles, though this periodvaries by state), some states require us or ourauthorized BMW center, to repair in a reasonablenumber of attempts, any defect or conditionwhich substantially impairs the use, value, orsafety of a new vehicle sold, leased or registeredin that state.

A reasonable number of attempts is generallydefined as (i) four or more attempts to repair thesame defect (the number of attempts vary bystate) or (ii) the vehicle is out of service by reasonof one or more repair(s) for more than acumulative total of 30 days (this period varies bystate), except for delays created by conditionsbeyond our control.

If we are unable to correct a defect or conditioncovered by these statutes in a reasonablenumber of attempts, we may be obligated eitherto replace the vehicle or reimburse the owner/lessee in an amount equal to the purchase priceor lease payments paid by the owner/lessee, lessthe amount directly attributable to use of thevehicle by the owner/lessee.

BMW of North America, LLC (“BMWNA”)warrants the Lithium-ion high-voltage batteryassembly against defects in materials orworkmanship for a period of 8 years/100,000 miles, whichever occurs first.

Lithium-Ion HighVoltage BatteryCapacityCoverage

The Lithium-ion high-voltage battery modulesare covered against excessive capacity loss for aperiod of 8 years/100,000 miles, whicheveroccurs first. This coverage is in addition to theLithium-ion high voltage battery’s limitedwarranty for defects in materials or workmanship.

Due to its inherent technical design, theLithium-ion high voltage battery’s capacity willdecrease over time and with use. If an authorized

BMW center’s capacity check concludes that thenet battery capacity is less than 70 percent of itsoriginal nominal value when it was new, this levelof capacity loss is considered excessive.

During the Lithium-Ion High Voltage BatteryCapacity Coverage period, BMWNA will coverthe necessary component repair or replacementto correct this excessive capacity loss whenperformed by an authorized BMW center.

Battery performance and durability, includingLithium-ion high voltage batteries, istemperature-dependent. While battery capacityand vehicle range increases in highertemperatures, colder temperatures will lower thebattery’s capacity and the vehicle’s range.Extreme high and/or low temperatures will impactthe battery’s service life.

Other factors will impact the vehicle’s Lithium-ion high voltage battery capacity and vehiclerange during operation. These factors include theselected drive mode, driving and charge cycleprofile, on-board electric consumer usage(original equipment/BMW and Non-BMWaccessories), frequent, long and/or steepchanges in road topography and the prevailingroad and traffic conditions.

WarrantyCoverage

To obtain warranty service coverage, the vehiclemust be brought, upon discovery of a defect inmaterial or workmanship, to the workshop of anyauthorized BMW center in the United States(including Puerto Rico), during normal businesshours.

The authorized BMW center will, without chargefor parts or labor, either repair or replace thedefective part(s) using new or authorizedremanufactured parts. The decision whether torepair or replace said part(s) is solely theprerogative of BMWNA. Parts for whichreplacements are made become the property ofBMWNA. In all cases, a reasonable time must beallowed for warranty repairs to be completedafter the vehicle is received by the authorizedBMW center.

Warranty repairs do not constitute an extensionof the original limited warranty period for thevehicle or a part thereof.

All maintenance services must be performed tokeep your warranty coverage valid. It is theowner’s responsibility to maintain the vehicle asindicated by the vehicle’s Condition BasedService (CBS) display and/or as outlined in theMaintenance Service Summary section of thisbooklet. Prior to performing service or repairwork under warranty, when necessary, the ownermust present to the authorized BMW centerproof that the periodic maintenance serviceswere performed at the required intervals. Therepair invoices/receipts for the completion ofrequired maintenances services should beretained for this purpose.

SafetyBeltWarranty - Kansas

Safety belts are covered under the BMWNewVehicle Limited Warranty for defects in materialor workmanship for a period of 10 years,unlimited mileage from the date of purchase. Inorder to be eligible for this coverage, the vehiclemust be a new car retailed in the State of Kansasand the repair performed by an authorized BMWcenter in Kansas.

Other Items

Wheel alignment, balancing and wiper bladeinserts are covered up to the first 2,000 miles onthe vehicle.

Itemswhich are subject to wear and tear ordeterioration due to driving habits orconditions, such as brake pads/linings, brakediscs, filters, upholstery, trim and chromeitems, paint finish, glass, and similar items,their coverage is specifically limited todefects inmaterial orworkmanship.

Additionally, wood trim and leatherupholstery have inherent variations in colorand texture, dependent upon being properlycleaned andmaintained.These itemsmaylighten or darken due to age or exposure tosunlight; this is not a defect inmaterials orworkmanship.

What is not covered:

Remote control transmitter battery replacement.

Damage, including consequential, to the vehicleor the Lithium-ion high-voltage battery which

results from negligence, improper operation ofthe vehicle, improper repair, lack of or impropermaintenance, environmental influences, flood,accident or fire damage or road salt corrosion.

Lithium-ion high-voltage battery that has beenopened or removed from the vehicle by anon-authorized BMW center during the limitedwarranty or the capacity coverage period.

Lithium-ion high-voltage battery damageresulting from leaving your vehicle for longer than14 days with a remaining “electric range” of lessthan 6 miles.

Damage to paint finish due to stone chips, nicks,dents, acid rain, industrial fallout, otherenvironmental influences, and normaldeterioration, such as fading, discoloration, orloss of luster, improper care/repair of �matte�paint finishes, as well as damage caused by lackof maintenance, excessive rubbing, the use ofimproper cleaners, polishes and/or waxes.

Maintenance services and parts when replacedduring maintenance such as lubricants, fluids,replacement of filters, and refrigerant.

Failure to maintain the vehicle properly inaccordance with the instructions in the Owner’sManual or the Service section of this Statement,that results in the failure of any part of the vehicle.

Modification of the vehicle or installation of anyperformance accessories or componentsattached to the vehicle which alters the originalengineering and/or operating specifications orwhich result in damage to the other originalcomponents, electrical interference, electricalshort, radio static, water leaks and wind noise.

Tires are warranted by their respectivemanufacturer. See the Tire Warranty Statementon page 23.

Driving over rough or damaged road surfaces,as well as debris, curbs and other obstaclescan cause serious damage towheels, tiresand suspension parts. This ismore likely tooccurwith low-profile tires that provide lesscushioning between thewheel and the road.Be careful to avoid road hazards and reduceyour speed, especially if your vehicle isequippedwith low-profile tires.

Non-genuine BMWParts —While you may electto use non-genuine BMW parts for maintenanceor repair services, BMWNA is not obligated topay for repairs of the non-genuine BMW parts orfor repairs of any damage resulting from the useof non-genuine parts.

BMWNAwill not accept any liability underthis warranty for repair of, or damage causedby, any parts and accessories not approvedbyBMW.

This warranty applies only to U.S.-specificationvehicles distributed by BMW of North America,LLC (BMWNA) or sold through the BMWNAEuropean Delivery Program.

In accordance with the defect warrantyprovisions of section 207(b) of the Clean Air Act,BMWNA warrants to the first retail purchaser,and each subsequent purchaser, that the car (a)was designed, built and equipped so as toconform, at the time of sale, with all regulationsof the U.S. Environmental Protection Agencyapplicable at the time of manufacture and (b) isfree from defects in materials and workmanshipwhich would cause it to fail to conform withapplicable regulations for a period of 2 years or24,000 miles, whichever occurs first, except forspecific emission control components (as listed

on page 23), for which the warranty period is8 years or 80,000 miles, whichever occurs first.

Coverage begins on the date of first retail sale orthe date the vehicle is first placed into service asa sales demonstrator, Aftersales MobilityProgram (AMP) Vehicle or company vehicle,whichever is earlier.

Warranty claims must be made as soon asreasonably possible after a defect is discovered.To make a claim, the car must be brought to anyauthorized BMW center during normal businesshours.

The authorized BMW center will, without chargefor parts or labor (including diagnosis), eitherrepair or replace the defective part, if any. Thedecision whether to repair or replace said parts issolely the prerogative of BMWNA and must beexpected to correct the failure of the warrantedpart. Parts for which replacements are madebecome the property of BMWNA. In all cases, areasonable time must be allowed for warrantyrepairs to be completed after the car is receivedby the authorized BMW center.

Warranty repairs do not constitute an extensionof the original limited warranty period for thevehicle or a part thereof.

For assistance in determining which specificparts or components of your vehicle are coveredunder this warranty, please contact yourauthorized BMW center.

It is the owner’s responsibility to have allscheduled inspection and maintenance servicesperformed (at the owner’s expense), asprescribed in the maintenance schedule for theBMW Emission Control System. Service intervalsare computed by the onboard BMWConditionBased Service system and displayed on theinstrument panel. The instructions for propermaintenance and use can be found in theOwner’s Manual. It is strongly recommended thatany replacement parts used for maintenance,repair or replacement of emission controlsystems be certified BMWService Parts or BMWAuthorized Remanufactured Parts. Withoutinvalidating this warranty, the owner may elect tohave maintenance, repair or replacement of theemission control systems performed by anyautomotive repair establishment, or elect to useparts other than certified BMWService Parts.

However, the cost of such service or parts will notbe covered under this warranty, except inemergency situations. In an emergency situation,where an authorized BMW center or a warrantyreplacement part is not reasonably available(within 30 days), repairs may be performed at anyavailable service establishment using anyequivalent part. BMWNA will reimburse theowner for such emergency repairs (includinglabor, parts and diagnosis not to exceedBMWNA rates for labor, parts, and diagnosis insaid area) that are covered under this warranty.Replaced parts and paid invoices must bepresented at an authorized BMW center as acondition of reimbursement for emergencyrepairs not performed by an authorized BMWcenter.

The use of replacement parts, which are not ofequivalent quality, may impair the effectivenessof the emission control system. If other thancertified BMWService Parts or AuthorizedRemanufactured Parts are used for maintenance,repair or replacement of components affectingemission control, the owner should obtainassurances that such parts are warranted by theirmanufacturer to be equivalent to genuine BMWparts in performance and durability. BMWNAassumes no liability under this warranty withrespect to parts other than genuine BMW parts.

However, the use of non-genuine BMWreplacement parts or non-EPA certified partsdoes not invalidate the warranty on othercomponents, unless non-genuine BMW parts ornon-EPA certified parts cause damage towarranted parts.

What is not covered

This warranty does not cover malfunctionscaused by any of the following: accident, flood,misuse, improper adjustment, modification,alteration, tampering, disconnection, improper orinadequate maintenance.

The replacement of maintenance parts, such asfilters and similar items used in requiredmaintenance services, the repair or replacementof maintenance parts beyond the first requiredinspection/maintenance, or if the part has beenreplaced earlier for reasons other than it beingdefective.

The car or any part of the car, unless a failurecauses the car to fail to conform to applicableemission regulations.

Any car on which the odometer has beenreplaced or altered and the true mileage cannotbe determined.

The car, if the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)is altered or cannot be read, or if the car has beendeclared a total loss or sold for salvage purposes.

General

Federal Emissions PerformanceWarranty (Valid Only in the U.S.A.including Puerto Rico)

In those states and jurisdictions that haveestablished periodic vehicle emissions tests toencourage proper vehicle maintenance andrequire the car to pass an emissions testapproved by the U.S. Environmental ProtectionAgency and:

1. The car was distributed by BMW of NorthAmerica, LLC (BMWNA), or sold through theBMWNA European Delivery Program; and

2. The car has been maintained and operated inaccordance with the instructions for propermaintenance and use set forth in the Owner’sManual supplied with the car; and

3. The car fails to conform to the applicableemissions standards of the EPA as judged byan EPA approved emissions test; and

4. The failure to conform results or will result inthe owner of the car having to bear a penaltyor other sanction (including the denial of theright to use the car) under local state orfederal law if the non-conformity is notremedied within a specified period of time.

Then, in accordance with the provisions ofsection 207(b) of the Clean Air Act, BMWNAwarrants that if the car is eligible for coverageunder this warranty, any non-conformities in thecar, which cause it to fail an EPA-approvedemissions test will, without charge for parts orlabor (including diagnosis), be adjusted, repaired,or replaced, at the option of BMWNA to properspecifications, in order to make the car complywith applicable emissions standards. Thedecision whether to adjust, repair or replace partsis solely the prerogative of BMWNA and mustreasonably be expected to correct the failure ofthe warranted part.

This warranty is made subject to the terms andconditions that apply to the Emission ControlSystemWarranty and the New Vehicle LimitedWarranty.

Warranty repairs do not constitute an extensionof the original limited warranty period for thevehicle or a part thereof.

No claim under this warranty will be denied onthe basis of use of a properly installed EPAcertified emission part for maintenance andrepair.

A vehicle manufacturer may deny an emissionperformance warranty claim on the basis of anuncertified replacement part used in themaintenance or repair of a vehicle only if thevehicle manufacturer presents evidence that theuncertified replacement part is either defective inmaterials or workmanship or not equivalent froman emission standpoint to the original equipmentpart.

Maintenance, replacement, or repair ofemission control devices and systemsmaybeperformed by any automotive repairestablishment or individual using anycertified part.

Immediately after the car has failed an EPAapproved emission short test, your claim can bemade at any authorized BMW center. Theauthorized BMW center will honor or deny yourclaim within the time period specified by local orstate laws (not to exceed 30 days), to avoidfurther penalties or sanctions. If the claim isdenied, the authorized BMW center will notifyyou in writing of the reason(s). The authorizedBMW center is required by law to honor the claimif notice of denial is not received by the ownerwithin the specified time period.

The 2014 BMW i3 with Range Extender iscertified to California’s stringent Super Ultra LowEmission Vehicle (SULEV) standards and alsoqualifies as a Type II Zero Emission Vehicle withRange Extender (Type IIx ZEV) under theCalifornia Air Resources Board Zero EmissionVehicle program. In addition to very low tailpipeand zero-evaporative emissions, this certificationincludes a unique Partial Zero Emission Vehicle(PZEV) warranty when the vehicle is registered inCalifornia, Connecticut and certain other states.PZEVmodels registered in Delaware, Oregon,Pennsylvania andWashington have differentemissions warranty coverage as outlined onpage 25.

b. free from defects in materials andworkmanship which cause any part that canaffect emissions to fail to conform withapplicable requirements or to fail a CaliforniaSmog Check test or EPA approved short testfor a period of 3 years or 50,000 miles,whichever occurs first.

c. free from defects in materials andworkmanship in emission related parts, whichare contained in the California EmissionWarranty Parts List on page 28, for a period of7 years or 70,000 miles, whichever occursfirst.

To obtain service under this warranty, the vehiclemust be brought, upon failure of a Smog Checktest or upon discovery of the defect, to theworkshop of any authorized BMW center, duringnormal business hours. The authorized BMWcenter will honor or deny your claim within30 days. If the claim is denied, the authorizedBMW center will notify you in writing of thereason(s). The authorized BMW center isrequired by law to honor the claim if notice is notgiven to the owner within 30 days.

The authorized BMW center will, without chargefor parts or labor (including diagnosis), eitheradjust, repair or replace the defective part andother parts affected by the failure of thewarranted part, if any. If your vehicle failed theCalifornia Smog Check test or an EPA approvedshort test, then BMWNA will repair your vehicleso that it will pass this test. Items that requirescheduled replacement are warranted up to thereplacement interval specified in the Service

section of this Statement. BMWNAmay repair apart in lieu of replacing it when performingwarranty repairs. Parts for which replacementsare made become the property of BMWNA.

A repair performed as the result of a Smog Checktest failure due to a defect in a part, which iswarranted for 15 years/150,000 miles, is covered.

Warranty repairs do not constitute an extensionof the original limited warranty period for thevehicle or a part thereof.

In all cases, a reasonable time, not to exceed30 days, must be allowed for a warranty repair tobe completed, after the car is received by theauthorized BMW center.

It is the owner’s responsibility to have all requiredmaintenance services performed (at the owner’sexpense), as prescribed in the maintenanceschedule for the BMW Emission Control System.Service intervals are computed by the ConditionBased Service system and displayed on theinstrument panel.

However, BMWNA will not deny your warrantyrepair claims solely because you do not havemaintenance records or you did not perform therequired maintenance unless BMWNAdemonstrates that such lack of requiredmaintenance is a direct cause of the emissioncontrol system failure. The instructions forrequired maintenance and use can be found inthe Owner’s Manual and in the Service section ofthis Statement.

It is strongly recommended that any replacementparts used for maintenance, repair orreplacement of emission control systems begenuine BMWService Parts or BMWAuthorizedRemanufactured Parts. Without invalidating thiswarranty, the owner may elect to havemaintenance, repair or replacement of theemission control systems performed by anyautomotive repair establishment, or elect to useparts other than BMWAuthorizedRemanufactured or genuine BMWService Parts.However, the cost of such service or parts will notbe covered under this warranty, except inemergency situations. In an emergency situation,where an authorized BMW center is notreasonably available or a warranty replacementpart is not available within 30 days, repairs may

be performed at any available serviceestablishment or by any individual using anyreplacement part.

A repair not completed within 30 daysconstitutes an emergency. BMWNA willreimburse the owner for such emergency repairs(including labor, parts and diagnosis not toexceed BMW suggested retail price for allwarranted parts replaced and labor chargesbased on the manufacturer’s recommended timeallowance for the warranty repair and thegeographically appropriate hourly labor rate) thatare covered under this warranty. Replaced partsand paid invoices must be presented to anauthorized BMW center as a condition ofreimbursement for emergency repairs notperformed by an authorized BMW center.

The use of replacement parts, which are not ofequivalent quality, may impair the effectivenessof emission control systems. If other thangenuine BMWService Parts or AuthorizedRemanufactured Parts are used for maintenance,repair or replacement of components affectingemission control, the owner should obtainassurances that such parts are warranted by theirmanufacturer to be equivalent to genuine BMWparts in performance and durability. BMWNAassumes no liability under this warranty withrespect to parts other than genuine BMW parts.

However, the use of non-genuine BMWreplacement parts does not invalidate thewarranty on other components, unlessnon-genuine BMW parts cause damage towarranted parts.

What is not covered

This warranty does not cover malfunctionscaused by any of the following: accident, flood,misuse, modification, alteration, tampering,disconnection, improper or inadequatemaintenance, except if performed by anauthorized BMW center doing warranty repairwork, use of leaded fuel or fuel other than asspecified in the Owner’s Manual.

The replacement of maintenance parts, such asspark plugs, filters and similar items used inrequired maintenance services or the repair orreplacement of maintenance parts beyond thefirst replacement interval.

Any car on which the odometer has beenreplaced or altered and the true mileage cannotbe determined.

The car, if the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)is altered or cannot be determined, or if the carhas been declared a total loss or sold for salvagepurposes.

General

The warranty gives you specific legal rights, andyou may also have other rights which vary fromstate to state.

THE DURATION OF ANY IMPLIEDWARRANTIES, INCLUDINGTHE IMPLIEDWARRANTYOFMERCHANTABILITY, ISLIMITEDTOTHE DURATION OFTHEEXPRESSWARRANTIES HEREIN.
