Clark's Corner, Thomson Straight and Chlppys Bend.

These areas provide the spectator vifith the chance to iooi< down into the car and get very ciose to the

action.

NOTICESJURISDICTIONThis meeting is governed by the General Regulations of the RAC Motor Sports Association Ltd (incorporating the provisions of the International Sporting Code of the FIA), the Supplementary Regulations issued for the event, the Harewood Regulations Booklet 1998, the BARC Speed Event Classes 1998 and any written instructions the BARC Yorkshire Centre may issue for the event.

PROGRAMMEAll literary matter in this programme, including the list of competitors and their racing numbers is copyright.The Club accepts entries and drivers’ nominations in good faith and every effort is made to adhere to the printed programme. The Club however cannot accept responsibility for the failure of any driver, or car, to appear. Although every endeavour is made to avoid inaccuracies in the descriptions of competing cars the Club accepts no responsibility for any that may occur. Whilst every attempt will be made to adhere to the published programme, the organisers reserve the right to modify, curtail or abandon the meeting.

LOST AND FOUND PROPERTYSpectators who find articles are asked to hand these in to the Secretary’s Office in the Paddock. Any people who have lost anything in the grounds should also apply to the Paddock Office.

LITTERWill spectators try to assist the Club by not dropping litter, but by putting it into the containers provided. For large items there is a skip near the toilet block.

REFRESHMENTSRefreshment services are operating in the Hill Side Car Park to supply hot and cold drinks, snacks etc from 10.30am on Saturdays and 9.30am on Sundays.A licensed bar is usually available during the event. Mobile Hot Dog, Ice Cream and Sw eet Kiosks may be availab le on Sundays.

CHAMPIONSHIPMARKING SYSTEM

Marking will be within classes on a Bogey Time improvement basis. For the 1998 season the bogey times for each class will become ‘floating’.At the conclusion of the first meeting where there is at least one entrant in a class, the time that the quickest competitor completes the course in will score that competitor 18 Championship marks AND set the bogey time. Other competitors in the same class will count the winning time plus 18 seconds as the bogey time for that meeting and score marks accordingly.This class winning time will constitute the basis for the bogey time (winning time plus 18 seconds) for the following meeting. The bogey time for each class will stay in force until the previous quickest time is beaten, the bogey time for the class will then be revised for the next meeting.To ensure that we have a worthy champion there will be a ‘target time’ for each class. A competitor must break this target time to be eligible to score a maximum of 20 points. A competitor not breaking this target time will only be eligible to score a maximum 18 marks no matter how much the bogey time is improved upon.

FTDAt each meeting marks will be awarded to the championship competitors who have recorded the ten fastest times of the day in the class runs. Marks will be awarded on the scale 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 to the fastest competitor down to the 10th fastest. There will also be 1 bonus mark for any competitor(s) who break the course record standing at the commencement of the meeting.

ROUND FOURIn July Colin Stewart stormed into the lead with a new class record and a

maximum score of 20 points. His fine performance leap-frogged him four places. The Guisborough Elan driver is only half a point ahead of the record breaking Clio Williams of Bobby Fryers. The Skipton Renault dealer has been amongst the leading contenders from the start of the season as has Settle Sierra Cosworth driver Jonathan Mounsey, the two Dalesmen will keep the pressure on the Elan man and may even snatch the lead if Colin makes a slip or has a mechanical problem.

In May the gap from 1st to 10th was 0.16. It opened up to 8 points in June but has been reduced to 5 points after the July event.

21 year old Jamie Hylton from Blackpool is still leading the single seater challenge but fifth place man Peter Griffiths will tumble out of contention as he is not competing in August.

Sports Car Specialist Jon Waggitt has been a consistent high scorer in his maiden year in the Ward WD9V Formula Libre sports car as has Sheffield Transport Manager Malcolm Dungworth, who did his championship aspirations no harm in July, with a score of 18.56 which was second highest of the day. This moved him up two places into 7th driving his Class 5 Modified Kit and Replica Cosworth engined turbocharged 4 wheel drive Dax Rush.

A man on the move is quick Metro driver Matthew Pinder, up two places into 8th. Tim Wilson is sufficiently concerned about maintaining his dominance in Class 4, so his Caterham Super 7 is undergoing a little more tweaking which he hopes will move him up the leader board and keep his class rivals at bay.

In 10th place overall, Haydn Spedding in his charismatic E Type Jag has had an exceptionally good season, the only blip on his record is a very low score at the damp June event. Without this, he would be much higher up the leader board.

August is the point in the season when the championship race hots up as all contenders can only count their best five scores out of a possible six.

It looks certain that Jamie Hylton in his 1600cc Malan single seater will move ahead of the present FTD Championship leader Peter Griffiths as the 2 litre Chevron driver has elected not to compete at the August event. This will open up the possibility of a fabulous climax to the FTD Championship at the final event in September. Although he has performed heroics in his 2 litre Formula Libre Ward WD9V, Jon Waggitt has damaged his top ten aspirations by not entering the August event, and 2 litre Reynard driver Mike Smith will probably move into third place.

Clare Sullivan in her distinctive red and white 1300cc Mini holds a 2 point lead over her nearest rival Lynne Owen. Lynne driving an QMS single seater designed by husband Steve, has missed two rounds so far, so it maybe the end of the season before she can challenge Clare’s lead. Presently in a competitve 3rd place, Caterham driver Jenny Woodfield is on the reserve list for the August event and must wait to see if she obtains an entry, if not, any hope of a championship win will go out of the window.
