Bell-ringer: Complete your group “K.E. calculations”. (10 minutes)

Agenda:•Bell-ringer•Complete “K.E. calculations” worksheet in groups (10 minutes) •“Potential Energy” notes

•Develop a model to describe that when the arrangements of objects interacting at distance changes, different amounts of potential energy are stored in the system.(S.7.PS.2)

K.E. Calculations at Tables

• At your table, work with your neighbor to complete the K.E. calculations.

• You can use a separate sheet of paper if you do not have enough room.

• You MUST show all work!• Round to the nearest tenth!!!• Turn into class bin when you’re finished!

Three Main Types of P.E.• Elastic Potential Energy (EPE) – energy stored by something

that can stretch or compress. Example: a rubber band or spring

• Chemical Potential Energy (CPE) – energy that is stored in chemical bonds. Example: a glass of milk has CPE until you drink it, then calories are used as energy for your body.

• Gravitational Potential Energy (GPE) – anything that can fall has GPE. Example: a ball on a ledge

Bell-ringer: If Kinetic Energy is energy in motion, what is Potential Energy?

Agenda:•Bell-ringer•Review “Potential Energy” notes•Think, pair, square, share “Other forms of Potential Energy” reading and worksheet

•Develop a model to describe that when the arrangement of objects interacting at a distance changes, different amounts of potential energy are stored in the system. (S.7.PS.2)
