This lesson gives you the basic knowledge you need in order to useyour radio. The following topics are covered:

Operating Your Control HeadYour advanced control head is designed for ease of use and flexibilityof feature control. Before operating the radio, familiarize yourself withthe various controls, indicators, and alert tones.

Turning On the RadioDo the following:• Turn the radio on with a short press of the power button inthe lower left corner of the control unit.•The mobile will also power on with the ignition.After a short time, the red, green and yellow LED’s light up,indicating that the radio is powering up.The display then shows XTL 5000.•When the radio is fully powered on, the Zone and Channel text andmenu items are displayed. The backlight will turn on to the lastselected color and dim level.•Turn the mobile radio on when the ignition is offNote: Pressing the power button before the LED’s light up will beignored.Pressing the power button anytime after the LED’s light upwill TURN OFF the radio.The radio then performs a self check.

Operating Your Control Head Cont.Setting the Volume:

•Turn Vol knob clockwise to increase volume or counterclockwise to decrease as desired.

Selecting a zone/mode:1. Press the Zone softkey and then the navigation keys to scroll to the desired zone.2. Rotate the Mode knob to select the mode3. When you are done press the home key to select.4. If you want to go to your home zone/mode hold down home key.

Operating Your Control Head Cont.Activating Scan:

•Press the scan soft key to start scan. If no activity exists, the display shows your selected channel. When a scanned channel becomes active, the display shows the active channel name.

1. Press Prog softkey followed by Scan softkey until the scan list is being displayed and the scan indicator blinks.

1. Press Prog softkey followed by Scan softkey until the scan list is being displayed and the scan indicator blinks.

2. Use the navigation keys to select the mode you want to program.

3. Press the Sel softkey as indicated in the table that follows to add or remove the displayed mode from the scan list.

4. Repeat the previous steps to continue editing the list.5. Press the home button to exit.

•You can select up to two channels as priorities.• Wylie Fire Dispatch is set as Scan priority one and can not be changed•When done press the home key.

Adjusting BrightnessTo adjust mobile brightness of the backlit screen press button located at top left of mobile control head

Practical :Turn on unit and follow these steps:

1. Select zone Denton Fire and mode TAC 8.2. Return to home zone and mode.3. Program a scan list, and set a different priority for each mode.4. Activate scan
