away from your mobile device,
with the lens facing the code.
If necessary, move the camera
slowly toward and back away
from the mobile screen.
When the camera reads the code
successfully, you will hear a chime.
(This should only take a few
seconds.) You may set the camera
down now.
The activation process will take up to
another 3 minutes. When complete, you will hear a final chime.
If the activation takes longer than 3 minutes, tap Cancel.
12 SmartCloud User Guide
2017
IMPORTANT: If the activation is not successful, the camera’s LED will remain red, and
the camera will beep once. You will get a message like the one below.
There are three reasons why activation might not work:
1. The camera may not have
been able to read the QR code.
Tap Try again, and go
through the steps again.
When the QR code
appears, make sure the
camera lens is facing the
code on the screen.
Hold the camera 10” to 12”
from the code, and move it
slowly towards the screen
and back away from it.
If you hear a chime, the camera
has read the code successfully.
2. Your camera may not be connected to your wireless network.
Tap Try again. You will be taken to the Wireless Setup screen
Uncheck the box (if it was checked) and carefully re-enter your network ID and
password

8. Set Up Your SmartCloud Zones
Unlock the true power of your SmartCloud service by setting up SmartCloud Zones and
customizing your SmartCloud settings.
Fully adjustable SmartCloud Zones help reduce false alerts by limiting motion detection
to a specific, targeted area of your choice, e.g., a door or window. SmartCloud won’t
record or notify you about unimportant activity outside of those zones.
IMPORTANT: If you have subscribed to the Starter service plan, there is no Cloud DVR
(Cloud Recording) option. However, you will still get activity-based recording and
notifications if you set up your SmartCloud Zones and SmartCloud settings.
SmartCloud Zones also help spare your bandwidth and reduce the demand on your
network (See “Reducing Bandwidth Consumption,” below).
SmartCloud Zones are useful for alerting you to specific events, e.g:
Somebody walking through a
doorway
The family pet jumping on the
couch
A package being delivered to the
front door
A car coming into the driveway
Example:
If you want to be notified when someone
opens a door but not when a person or pet
just walks past the door, draw your
SmartCloud Zone around the top of the
door. Now SmartCloud will only record
when the door is opened. Try setting one
up and seeing how it works.
25 SmartCloud User Guide
2017
Setting up a SmartCloud Zone is easy
You can draw as many zones as you like.
From your camera’s Live view, tap
the Zones button
To add a zone, tap the Add Zone
button
To change the shape of the zone,
drag the black adjusting points
with your finger
Pinch the zone to make it bigger
or smaller. Expanding the zone
can make it easier to change the
shape
You can move the entire zone
without changing its shape by
dragging it with your finger
To delete a zone, tap it to select
it, then tap the Trash button
IMPORTANT: Make sure you save your zone before exiting.
By default, SmartCloud will monitor for activity in your zone, and notify you at the email
address associated with your account. If you wish to schedule SmartCloud to monitor
only at specific times, turn off Monitoring altogether, or manage your Notifications, see
“8. Customize Your SmartCloud Settings,” below.
26 SmartCloud User Guide

IMPORTANT: If Smart Monitoring is disabled, SmartCloud will not record activity in your
zones, or send notifications. However, the default setting is Enabled.
27 SmartCloud User Guide
2017
Scheduling Monitoring
You may want the system to monitor only at certain times of the day, or on certain days
of the week. For example, you might want it to monitor on weekdays from 9:00 AM to
5:00 PM when you are at work.
In this case, you can use the Scheduler to tell SmartCloud exactly when and when not to
monitor.
IMPORTANT: At present, the
Scheduler can only be accessed
through the SmartCloud website, and
not the mobile app.
Go to www.mysmartcamcloud.com
and log in with your User ID and
password.
Find the camera that you
want in the Your Cameras list
on the dashboard
Click the Settings button
Under SmartCloud Analytics,
click “When do you want us
to monitor?”

When the Scheduler
appears, drag the blue
bars right or left to cover
the times you want the
system to monitor
For additional
instructions, click “How to
use the Scheduler”
Analytics: SmartCloud Zones, General Motion, Scene
Change, & Audio Detection
SmartCloud analytics can detect four kinds of activity: SmartCloud Zone activity, General
Motion, Scene Change, and sound (Audio detection).
Setting your analytics preferences tells SmartCloud what’s important to you, and what
to record.
SmartCloud Zones: When set to ON, SmartCloud will record when there’s activity in
your custom SmartCloud Zones. Note: there must be at least one zone drawn. (See
“7. Set Up Your SmartCloud Zones.”)
General Motion: When set to ON, SmartCloud will record whenever there is any
motion in the camera’s field of view, including outside of any SmartCloud Zones
you have drawn.
Scene Change: When set to ON, SmartCloud will record when it detects a major
scene change. This may be a sudden change from dark to light, or a major change in
the camera’s entire field of view, e.g., if the camera’s view is suddenly blocked, or
the camera is turned to face a different direction.
29 SmartCloud User Guide
2017
Audio Detection: When set to ON, SmartCloud will record when it detects a loud
noise. The audio detection sensitivity (e.g., how loud a sound must be before it
triggers the camera to record) is determined by the microphone volume. You can
control the microphone volume when you turn on Audio detection.
To select your analytics
Find the camera that you want from the Camera List
Tap the Settings button and scroll down to SmartCloud
Tap “What Do You Want Us to Monitor?” and make your selections
Notifications
If you wish to be notified in real time whenever SmartCloud detects the analytics you
selected
Find the camera that you want from the Camera List
Tap the Settings button and scroll down to Notifications
From here you can turn notifications on or off.
To register additional email addresses to receive notifications, or to register devices to
receive push notifications
Tap the Main Menu button
Choose Account
Scroll down to Devices & Notifications
Note that when you add an email address to receive notifications, that address will
appear as “Pending” until the invitee accepts the invitation.
IMPORTANT: Be sure to enter the SmartCloud notification email address
“[email protected]” in your email client’s trusted list so that
notifications don’t get sent to your spam folder.

10. Cloud Recording: Essential and Elite Plans
If you have subscribed to the Essential or Elite service plans, SmartCloud gives you the
option to continuously record the video (“Cloud DVR”) from your camera and store it in
the cloud for 7 or 21 days, depending on your plan.
Once the time limit has been reached, the video from the first day will be deleted.
Example for 21-day plan:
Camera records video from Day 1 to Day 21.
On Day 22, video from Day 1 is deleted, and video from Day 22 is
recorded.
On Day 23, video from Day 2 is deleted, and video from Day 23 is
recorded, and so on.
After Day 21, you will always have access to the last 21 days of recorded
video.
Turn Cloud Recording On or Off
From the Camera List, choose the camera you want, and then Settings
Scroll down to Cloud DVR and turn on or off
Keep in mind that Cloud DVR uses bandwidth. For ways to save bandwidth, see
“Reducing Bandwidth Consumption,” below.
Manual Recording
If you have turned Cloud DVR off to save bandwidth, you can still turn it back on and off
whenever you want, for example, if you want to record something temporarily. Just turn
Cloud DVR on and off as described above.
31 SmartCloud User Guide
2017
Reducing Bandwidth Consumption
Cloud DVR sends a continuous stream of HD video to the cloud, so it uses your home
network bandwidth. The more cameras that have Cloud DVR turned on, the more
bandwidth you will use.
To reduce bandwidth consumption, turn Cloud DVR off for one or more cameras and
use SmartCloud’s Smart Monitoring instead (see “8. Customize Your SmartCloud
Settings and Notifications,” above):
Draw a SmartCloud Zone around what matters to you
Turn on Enable Smart Monitoring
Turn on one or more analytics (SmartCloud Zone Intrusion, General Motion,
Scene Change, or Audio Detection)
Turn on Notification if you want to be notified in real time when SmartCloud has
detected something
This way, SmartCloud will only record video (and stream it to the cloud) when
something happens that you want to know about, sparing your bandwidth.
At any time, you can still record video manually (see “Manual Recording,” above).
