Gordon is the fourth head coach in MSU soccer history. • Gordon's Bulldog opener will also be his head coaching debut after a six seasons on the staff at Texas Tech. • Mississippi State is 12-5-1 all-time in season openers, but just 5-4 when starting the season on the road. The Bulldogs are beginning the year on the road for the fourth time in the last five seasons. • Fans were able to catch their first glimpse of the Bulldogs last Friday, when the team tied South Florida 1-1 in an exhibition match at the MSU Soccer Field. • Friday's season opener will pit the Bulldogs against South Alabama for the ninth time. MSU paces the overall series 6-2-0, including a 2-1-0 mark in Mobile. The teams met in Starkville during last season's Bulldog Classic, with State claiming a decisive 5-0 victory. • Gordon's squad opens the home slate Sunday against Arkansas State. • Tabbed the Bulldogs' fourth head coach on Nov. 27, 2012.

• Spent the past six seasons on the staff at Texas Tech University.

• Helped the Red Raiders became a regular fixture around the top of the Big 12 Conference table.

• Part of Tech's 2012 team that won a school-record 16 games, advanced to the semi-finals of the Big 12 Tournament for the first time, and made its first trip to the NCAA Tournament, where it advanced to the second round.

• TTU tallied 130 points behind 46 goals and 38 assists, and defensively registered an 0.97 goals-against average while posting 10 shutouts in his final season.

• Helped Stone guide the Red Raiders to three-straight double-digit win seasons, a first for the program.

• With his guidance, the Red Raiders claimed more overall (60) and conference (23) wins than the previous nine years combined, and a spot in the Big 12 Tournament all six seasons.

• Helped mentor seven players to Big 12 All-Freshman honors, including the Big 12 Freshman of the Year two of the past three seasons, and five to First Team All-Big 12 accolades. During his tenure, he also helped mentor a pair of players that were selected to United States youth national teams.

• Joined Tech following a three-year stint with his hometown FC Dallas of Major League Soccer, where he served as the director of coaching for the second- largest youth club program in North Texas.

• Enjoyed a tenure as the top assistant for the Atlanta Beat of the WUSA, coordinat-ing the daily training schedule and serving as head of scouting and video analysis among other duties.

• Joined the Beat following a stint as director of coaching for Dallas Inter Soccer Club, where he oversaw a program that won numerous state and regional championships.

• Served as head coach of the Women's Texas Lightning team of the W-League, guid-ing the program to back-to-back United States Amateur Championships.

• Spent a tenure as the head coach for the 93 Region III ODP team.

• Mississippi State's trek to Mobile on Friday begins the 19th season of Mississippi State soccer.• The Bulldogs open the year under the guidance of Aaron Gordon, the fourth head coach in program history.

State is 2-1 all-time in the first game under a new leader.• MSU is 12-5-1 in season openers all-time.

• Friday's game is the ninth meeting between the two teams. MSU owns at 6-2 overall advantage in the series and a 2-1 mark in Mobile.

• The two sides met last season in Starkville, with the Bulldogs taking a 5-0 win in the Bulldog Classic champi-onship game. Amy Hoover scored twice around a Halee Heltsley goal, and Elisabeth Sullivan and Madison McKee also found the net in the victory.

• Sunday's meeting will be the second against Arkansas State. The two teams met in Jonesboro to open the 2011 season, with the Red Wolves claiming a 3-1 victory.

• The Bulldogs are 8-3-2 all-time in home openers.

• The Bulldogs will be opening the season on the road for the fourth time in the last five seasons, going 2-1 over that stretch. The last time State started the year on the road was 2011, a 3-1 setback to Sunday's opponent Arkansas State.

• Senior Elisabeth Sullivan enters 2013 four points back of tying Jessi Moore's career points record of 62 set over the 2001 and 2002 seasons.

• Sullivan scored her 22nd and 23rd career goals in last season's finale against Ole Miss to set the program's career goals record.

• The Memphis, Tenn., native tallied career highs in goals (12) and points (28) in 2012 to claim second team All-SEC honors.

• This season she was named to the first team on College Sports Madness' preseason all-SEC team.

griMes eyes strong senior caMpaign

• Senior Morganne Grimes has been Mississippi State's "Iron Woman" in her career, playing and starting all but one game during her first three seasons and going the full time in all but two.

• Grimes has logged 5,264 minutes on the defensive line for the Bulldogs, 198 shy of breaking into the career Top 10.

• The Fayetteville, Ga., native made a new move last Friday, drawing her first career start in the midfield.• Grimes will once again be wearing the captain's band.

• Mississippi State's goalkeeper competition has been rather unique this season, with a friendly bond develop-ing between senior CJ Winship and freshman Meara Johnson.
