Mission: Open Your Heart believes that all Minnesotans should be free from hunger and homelessness.
“With the grant, our agency was able to facilitate greater integration in the community. Women were able to get to work, job interviews, housing appointments, medical appointments, therapy, stores, etc. Transportation barriers are one of the most common issues of women in our shelter. Therefore, the grant helped us to significantly reduce the impact of this barrier.” - CADA House

RIDESHARE DEMONSTRATION PROJECTThe lack of reliable transportation ranks as a top barrier for people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless in accessing work, school and other services to improve their lives. Open Your Heartʼs Rideshare Demonstration Project assisted homeless populations in accessing the kinds of care and support necessary to improve their lives.

Open Your Heart believes that all Minnesotans should be free from hunger and homelessness. We ensure that emergency shelters, homeless outreach programs and food shelves have the resources and infrastructure necessary to best serve those in need.
When hundreds of our neighbors were tragically displaced in December of 2019 due to the Drake Hotel fire, Open Your Heart quickly provided emergency financial support directly to those impacted toward assistance securing apartments, deposits, replacing lost documents, and anything else they needed to get back on their feet.
The fastest growing segment of the homeless population this decade has been among individuals aged 55 years and older. Open Your Heart’s Homeless Senior Project supported shelters and other Minnesota facilities in helping seniors experiencing homelessness with housing, food assistance, transportation, and much needed financial assistance for permanent housing.

“I will utilize this opportunity that you gave me. I feel forever indebted to your generosity towards me and for that I will take this scholarship and I will pay it forward towards making this world a better place. One day in the near future, I too will give a person a chance at doing something that they never even dreamed of.” – Shira, Scholarship Recipient
OPEN YOUR HEART SCHOLARSHIPAs the cost of college grows, research shows that so does the number of hungry and homeless students at colleges and universities across the country. With the support of our donors, Open Your Heart provided scholarships to eleven students who met the federal definition of homeless. By removing barriers to higher education through scholarships and emergency assistance, we empower low-income, underrepresented and underserved students to succeed in school, work and life.

“With our Open Your Heart grant,
Rochester Public Schools was able to
quickly provide students with access to
reliable transportation, clothing items,
hygiene products and other emergency
items that we might not have been able to
access otherwise. It was a weight lifted
off the shoulders of the students with
whom we work, and a relief to be able to
help so many students in need.”
